  1. Code of Conduct for the Slack Group:
  2.
  3. Advice on how to be nice:
  4. 1) Use "I" statements as much as possible, talk about your own experience as much as you can even when helping others. After all we know ourselves and our experiences best, can't really assume what the other person knows or has been through.
  5. 2) Try to ask if someone's open to feedback, and what kind of feedback they'd like. Not everyone wants advice for example, that can be condescending! Sometimes people just want a high five, sometimes they just need to vent. It's okay to explicitly ask.
  6. 3) This isn't a confidential space, so be aware of that, but still try your best to follow politeness around confidentiality. Ask someone before posting a screenshot of a conversation or sharing things they shared, for example.
  7. 4) It's okay to vent and talk about negative stuff here, but be mindful of how that affects others. If someone asks you to stop or tone it down do consider that, because it probably took a lot of courage to voice that concern. Consider that negative jokes can still create a negative vibe to the conversation. I might ask you to switch topics or take it to a group DM and off the main channel depending on the negative content.
  8. 5) In general, aim to be nice and respectful!
  9.
  10. What'll happen if you're not nice:
  11. - For now, this is a benevolent dictatorship with myself being that dictator, much like Twitter is (I can freely mute and block people to disentangle them from my network and what I see). I reserve the right to kick you out without explanation.
  12. - If I deem it a mild offense, I'll talk with you 1:1 . I have seen folks get better and more polite
  13. - If I deem it a hurtful offense you're unlikely to change, then it's time to be kicked out
  14. - I always welcome feedback!
  15. - If the group grows or lasts a while or starts being something others are copying I'll flesh this out and switch from a benevolent dictatorship model
