- Explain the reasons for pupil dilation for diabetic retinopathy screening
- To better aid the capture of fundus photos its advisable to have large pupils allowing maximum amount of light to enter into the eye. This would allow for flash photography to accrurately capture maximum definable detail. To this end, mydriatic drops are applied to expedite the entire process in a clinic setting (rather than relying on pupil relaxation in a darkened room) by getting the largest possible pupil aperture available which wont be affected by the use of flash photography causing pupil constriction after every photograph attempt.
