- 'Sup, doods!
- I think I've come to this conclusion before, but the measures I've taken this week to try and focus on stream design have really made this set in:
- If I'm not streaming, I'm not doing.
- It turns out that I have real problems trying to focus on things when I have access to distractions. Quitting YouTube videos cold turkey at any point in my life is proving to be impossible. That addiction, however, led me to a video of a dangerous type of affirmation. Confirmation bias is dangerous when you have no other way to check yourself. That said, this video that I stumbled on was giving some harmless advice for creativity. I really did “stumble” on it because it was a Short. It was a Short by someone who may have flooded your feeds, as well, if you've watched YouTube recently, who streams under his company name of Pirate Software. His name is Thor. He's a former Blizzard developer. That one guy on the South Park World of Warcraft episode was his dad. He has a voice for radio. He has a bunch of Shorts and they're all a treat. One day, I would like to have a bunch of Shorts on my own channel for the tutorial series I've been planning and I can't help but stop to watch his whenever they come up.
- One of these Shorts on creativity caught my attention because it involved doing something that I had already considered as a lifestyle change for a long time. It was advice for making it easier on yourself to make things. If you have trouble making things after your 9-5 job because you're no longer motivated, just take a nap as soon as you get home to build a buffer in your brain between your work time and your free time. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/R4vzsLhDDkc
- I've started trying this. It's only been two days, but I feel, maybe, 1% less worse about myself than before so it's probably worth my while. Better than wasting that time consuming videos, don't you think? It's helped me push through a little bit of my redesign of the LPS tournament broadcast. By the way, the Super Puzzle Fighter tournament has been postponed because I had forgotten that AGDQ keeps getting scheduled later and later into January and they had already announced dates when I had announced the tournament date in October.
- Anywell, perhaps it was this change that led me to come up with a stream idea, a concept that might be the most off the wall thing I could ever reasonably concoct. Well, is it actually an idea if I don't have an idea when the stream starts? The more I think about how to explain it without spoiling too much, the more I get confused by it so you'll just have to tune in. (But where, I wonder?) I still have a few things to prepare before I can go live with it this weekend.
- It's about time to start doing.
- (Thor affirmed something else within me as I was writing this update. I've remembered that I work well with checklists. I'm gonna try every morning to write down a few of the smaller things I need to do to get the big things done. Might be a little important for the stream idea.)
- Today's (permanent) extra streaming goals (actual priority is in constant flux):
- Goal #5: make a universal LPS broadcast layout that can be quickly adapted to multiple games. I have not been able to power through this, but it will definitely be done by the time I need it.
- Goal #6: script and record footage for my Puzzle League tutorial series. I have some scripts left to touch up before feeling comfortable with moving on to recording gameplay. Then I will need to record my talking points and edit it all together. Getting everything ready to edit is the big thing I hope to get done before the next Tetris Attack tournament, but I'm really cutting it close.
- Goal #7: clean up my own stream layout. I am brainstorming how I want the final theming to be. I probably want to give people multiple options, maybe allow spending bits to change the look. I don't have anything written down yet.
- Goal #8: release the Puzzle League tutorial series YouTube shorts once a day until they're all done. I really do think I need to time the release of the series with a ramping up of my streaming schedule so that I can take advantage of whatever there is to gain from releasing the shorts.
- Saturday, 3pm EST. I had plans to stream something Saturday and they fell through. I might as well make use of this time. I may also need Sunday to reach some sort of presentable state with what I am going to start.
- In case you missed the video schedule I posted before:
