  2. Reaching for the remote, Naoko switches the channel back to the animal documentary. "What was that about", she asks the apparently only remaining person in the room aside from herself, without actually looking at Viktoriya.

  5. "Nothing. Just Midori being baby over chips." Viktoriya shrugged tilting her head up just enough to slip her hands undeaneath to use as a makeshift pillow before she herself fixed her eyes on the documentary. "Why are you watching this?"

  8. The screen now depicts a lion hunting meat for its young, narrated by a calm voice. "Behavior. Don't you think it's fascinating? Humans are a kind of animal, too, after all." For the first time in many minutes, the other pilot finally turns her head to look directly at the Russian.

  11. "If you want to be technical, yes we are. But behaviour of animals does not interest me. Knowing how lion hunts won't help me any time in future. It will just be useless information I have. Nothing more." Of course, Naoko was more than welcome to find interest where Viktoriya did not. "If lion knows something I don't that I can use, I'd take more interest."

  14. Tilting her head, Naoko keeps staring at the other girl. The TV now shows a litter of young lions hungrily devouring blooded meat. "You don't think it might help you better understand the others? Or yourself?"

  17. A confused look was given to her comrade, a brow raised as her head turned to return the favor of eye contact." How can lion help me understand myself or others? I am not lion. I am person."

  20. The blue-haired oddity extends an arm to gently press the tip of her right index finger directly onto Viktoriya's nose. "When humans are animals, Viktoriya-san has to be one as well. Don't you want to be fed? Don't you want to mate?"
  21.
  22. Viktoriya Kiev02/01/2019
  23. Viktoriya didn't seem phased by the concept of mating. It was of course, part of the discussion of the documentary.. Wasn't it? "Those are basic needs, Princess. Need for food is how living things stay alive. Mating is a need to pass genetics on to next generation. There is nothing to understand bu instinct. It is was makes all creatures alive."
  24.

  26. "Hmm... naruhodo", she responds, retracting her hand and turning her head to the TV again. "So, if one were to lack these instincts, or some of them, would that mean they're not alive? Are they less of an animal, or more than a human?"
  27.
  28. Viktoriya Kiev02/01/2019
  29. "To not have instincts would be like not having emotions. Without instinct or emotion you are just... machine." Viktoriya replied in a calm tone, her feet tapping against the arm of the couch. "At least... It is how I have known it to be."

  31. Naoko Shimane02/01/2019
  32. "A lot of people say the Evas have neither instinct nor emotion", she muses. "But that's not true. You felt it too, didn't you, Viktoriya-san?"
  33.
  34. Viktoriya Kiev02/01/2019
  35. "да..." The russian gave a nod with her answer. "Maybe too much so..."
