- Resolve
- What’s your name and its origin?
- Resolve — I originally started my 3rd Strike journey as "RXResolve." The reason for the "RX" part is obvious... and as for the "Resolve" part, it just sounded good to my ear. I started going just by "Resolve" because I wanted to cement myself as an individual with my own playstyle rather than a mimic of somebody else.
- How long is your history with 3rd Strike?
- My relationship with competitive 3rd Strike goes back to approximately 2019–2020. I knew about the game long before then because I have an uncle who grew up in the arcades, so I have many childhood memories of watching him play a variety of retro fighting games in his home. But I didn't personally touch the game with any real intent to improve until around the COVID lockdowns.
- Where is your home arcade?
- The Office Arcade - Bakersfield, California
- How did you start playing 3rd Strike?
- I started playing 3rd Strike after watching a “Best of RX” compilation on YouTube. I was absolutely dazzled by the combos. I wanted to learn them myself, which led me to Dr. SteelHammer’s videos. I set out to learn every single combo from every one of his videos. I logged into an old Twitter account I had made years beforehand and started posting myself performing those very same combos. A fellow young Urien player named Jandor saw them, and after chatting and just overall hitting it off, he got me an invite to SteelHammer’s Urien server. It was in that server that I was exposed to more advanced concepts and techniques beyond just flashy combos, as well as a hefty supply of high-level Japanese Urien footage.
- Who’s your main and why?
- My character of choice is Urien. It really was just chance that the YouTube algorithm put that RX compilation in my feed. It could have just as easily shown me Best Of Sugiyama, YSB, Kokujin, K.O, Mimora, TM, Tominaga, KSK, or Vanao from that exact same uploader. All of those players and their characters have things that could have dazzled me into maining them. Whether it was luck or destiny, I'm glad I ended up becoming a Urien main. I think my natural tendency to play very defensively lends itself very well to Urien.
- Which players do you respect/admire?
- I respect and admire far too many people in our scene to name them all, but I will say that I have the utmost respect and admiration for anyone who brings new players into the scene and helps players of all skill levels. This can be done in many different ways, whether it be hosting events, posting content on social media, or simply being a kind and encouraging person. That being the case, I feel I must include Waxx & Cedric and the entire 3sO crew, Mutant & Venca as well as the rest of the Jazzy Circuit crew, Jimbo and the entire SeT crew, Nica K.O, Exodus, Lance, Renic, Shodokan, Dr. SteelHammer, FrankieBFG, FM, Poe, and Amir as some of the people and groups I respect and admire the most.
- Who do you consider your rival(s)?
- I consider most players who started playing around the same time I did to be my rivals. Boa, Bubbles, Env, Raven, Karamelty, Joyuz, and Jamie are some of the players that immediately come to mind. I'm not actually 100% certain about the timelines of some of those players, but I've had them grouped together in my mind since I started playing lol. It's one thing to try to contend with the established top players, but it's another to push somebody who came from the same era as you, who has had access to more or less the same information and competition. We share the same hunger and fire, and I know I can never slack off with them in the mix. I can blink, and they'll have left me in the dust.
- Which new players has your attention?
- Any of the players I mentioned in the previous question could be listed here. They're all dangerous and only getting better. That being said, I've had my eye on Bubbles for a while now. He's had some insane matches against legendary players over the last few years. I can't wait to test my mettle against him in person!
- Are there any matches that left an impression on you/memorable matches?
- A lot of Kuroda sets come to mind. In many of them, his play borders on the inhuman. They motivate me to push my hands and mind to their limits to try to achieve a similar kind of mastery.
- What’s one adjustment you’d make to 3rd Strike?
- I wouldn't change a thing.
- Give us your self analysis.
- I would describe myself as a patient, defensive player with high execution. I also try to place a strong focus on my neutral game.
- What do you think is a fun point of 3rd Strike?
- I find the learning process incredibly fun, but I think 3rd Strike is intrinsically just a really fun game. Some of the most fun I have is hopping into a voice call with Lance and playing some shit-ass 3rd Strike with our terrible side characters.
- Will you continue 3rd Strike in the future?
- Of course! Sometimes real-life stuff happens, and I may have to take a step back to deal with it, but I don't see myself ever quitting this game. Even if I found myself physically unable to play anymore, I'd still try to be a part of the scene in whatever way I could.
- Any last words?
- Play 3rd Strike, it's a good game.
