42. Dr Victor Frankenstein dies frozen to death and the creature buries him at the cemetery of his family. However he is attacked by demons but he kills one of them and Gargoyles save him and take him to a Cathedral where the Gargoyles Order gathers. The Queen of the Gargoyles Leonore keeps Dr. Frankenstein's journal together with the treasures of the Order and gives the name of Adam to the creature. Then she explains to Adam that there is an ancient war between the Gargoyles that are angels and demons under the command of the Prince Naberius. She also invites Adam to join the Gargoyles in the war against demons, but Adam prefers to isolate in a remote place. Two hundred years later, Adam returns and finds a modern society. Soon he learns that Naberius has the intention of creating an army of soulless corpses to be possessed by demons. The scientist Terra is researching a process to create life and Naberius is seeking Dr Frankenstein's journal to help Terra and raise his army.
 43. Frankenstein's creature finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans.
 44. I only went to this movie because it was the only movie running and I had about 2 hours to kill. I had seen the trailer and some reviews and my expectations were dreadfully low.

"I, Frankenstein", however, managed to deliver. It's extremely campy (the main character spews one liners that would make Rambo cringe and burst into tears) and not even Yvonne Strahovski manages to make anything out of the role she's given. The film takes itself seriously, with prolonged action sequences, unrealistic dialogues and some of the worst acting from top-notch actors I have seen in years.

Due to these things, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I burst into laughter from time to time and just when I thought that it could not be any more cliché and that it couldn't reach a new low.. it did. It reached such heights of campiness and absurdity that I left the cinema smiling and, frankly, the film made me feel good.

I would recommend this movie if you want something to laugh at on a rainy afternoon.
 45. I mean, they've gotten increasingly bizarre, and increasingly bland all at the same time. The good old days of the original Underworld movie are long gone. Either the plot is needlessly inclusive of every fantasy trope ever (City of Bones) or, as here, the plot is a mish-mash of other plots designed to evoke interest.

And I admit, the blending of Frankenstein and a good vs. evil plot did sound promising, but oh my! Did it ever fall on its face.

I'd like to know if the agents for Eckhart, Nighy, Otto and Strahovski still have their jobs, because how they convinced their clients to take these roles is a mystery. Maybe the money was good. Real good. Who knows? However, the fact that they did convince them to sign up is the only thing that elevates this film beyond the level of "meh!" and even then, only barely.

The principals all do their best with what they were given, even if Nighy only channels his Viktor character from Underworld, but they can't save the inherent absurdity of the movie.

It doesn't even obey its own rules. For example, having fought and killed several demons in an alley, Franky is taken to task by Otto's Queen of the Gargoyles for letting a human be killed, and she goes on about how the battle between good and evil is a secret one.

You guessed it! That secrecy is rapidly and unequivocally ignored in favour of violence on an epic scale shortly thereafter. Oddly enough, few, if any, normal humans are seen in and around the city during this time. Maybe they all went on holiday at once?

The Gargoyles all hold up in their Cathedral, which appears to have no human occupants at any time during the movie. No one seems to ever see the Gargoyles flying around en masse either, or remarks about the flashes of light ascending to heaven, or the fiery coils of dying demons on their way to hell.

If the movie manages to get anything right, it's the gloomy, Frankensteinian (it's a word, honest!) atmosphere. Everything is uniformly dark and dreary. Depressing, if I'm honest about it. It never, ever seems to be daytime. But it sort of works.

Don't get me wrong, I sort of enjoyed it. I think more for the effort to do something different, even if it failed ultimately. God knows I'm sick of the endless remakes. I'd rather watch some struggling new franchise try to be born than the incessant attempts by Hollywood to monetise old ones. Even so, I have to say this is poor fare, even by some of the more recent Underworld offerings, which are not good. A nice idea, but no one really thought it through, I think.

SUMMARY: Typical urban fantasy, made bearable by the decent stars, but not a movie you'll watch again and again (or even twice, probably). Likely one that the said stars will try and avoid questions about in future interviews.
 46. The humorless, generic, and chatty Frankenstein served up here makes you wonder if the good doctor, in all his patching-together of parts, didn’t forget the brains.
