  1. RAW Psychokinesis
  2.
  3. Psychokinesis (••• or •••••)
  4. Effect: Your character has a psychic ability to manipulate
  5. the forces of the universe. Every type of Psychokinetic is dif-
  6. ferent. For example, your character might have Pyrokinesis,
  7. Cryokinesis, or Electrokinesis, the control of fire, cold, or
  8. electricity, respectively. This is not an exhaustive list. He
  9. can intensify, shape, and douse his particular area of ability.
  10. With the three-dot version, some of the given force must be
  11. present for him to manipulate. With the five-dot version, he
  12. can manifest it from nothingness.
  13.
  14. Spend a point of Willpower to activate Psychokinesis,
  15. and roll Resolve + Occult. Each success allows a degree of
  16. manipulation; choose one of the following options below. If
  17. you intend to cause harm with the roll, subtract the victim's
  18. Resolve from the Resolve + Occult roll. If characters should
  19. be harmed without a direct attack, for example, if they run
  20. through a patch of flame, the three-dot version of the Merit
  21. causes one lethal damage, and the five-dot version causes
  22. two. The Storyteller may rule that larger manifestations may
  23. cause more, if the situation calls for it.
  24.
  25. • Increase or decrease the Size of the manifestation by 1.
  26.
  27. • Move the manifestation a number of yards equal to
  28. your character's Willpower dots times 2.
  29.
  30. • Shape the force into a specific form. This may require
  31. an Intelligence + Crafts roll to form it into a detailed
  32. or intricate shape.
  33.
  34. • Attack a victim with the force. Allocate any number of
  35. the rolled successes to cause harm. With the three-dot
  36. Merit, Psychokinesis is a weapon causing one lethal
  37. damage. Psychokinesis is considered a two lethal
  38. weapon with the five-dot version.
  39.
  40. • Use the force creatively. This is up to the situation and
  41. the force in question. For example, an Electrokinetic
  42. may use his ability to power an electronic device briefly
  43. or to jumpstart a stalled automobile.
  44.
  45. • Manifest his force. This only works with the five-dot
  46. version. It manifests a Size 1 patch of the force. It may
  47. spread or be enlarged with further successes.
  48.
  49. Drawback: Whenever your character depletes his last
  50. Willpower point, the Storyteller can call on his abilities
  51. to manifest spontaneously. Resist this with a Resolve +
  52. Composure roll, with a -2 penalty if his chosen force is promi-
  53. nently featured nearby. For example, the penalty applies if a
  54. Pyrokinetic is locked in a factory with a hot forge. This tends
  55. to happen during wildly inconvenient moments, and in ways
  56. that usually cause more trouble than they solve. With these wild
  57. manifestations, use of Psychokinesis does not cost Willpower.
  58.
  59. ---
  60.
  61. Problems with RAW Psychokinesis for Willie:
  62.
  63. • It has no interaction with the Hellfire Castigation Rite, in a way that renders the Rite flatly worse. Psychokinesis costs Willpower rather than health, and attacks with a much stronger dicepool for Willie. The ability to painlessly conjure fire from nothing costs 2xp over base Psychokinesis, which is less than Hellfire costs on its own.
  64. • One-size-fits-all activation cost that values being able to light a cigarette with your finger at the same rate as being able to incinerate someone with your mind
  65. • Drawback is cool but very easy to avoid triggering
  66.
  67. Goals with reworked Psychokinesis for Willie:
  68.
  69. • Respect both the experience and health cost of existing Castigation Rite
  70. • Give Willie greater control of fire that otherwise behaves Hellishly (immediately applying Inferno tilt, burning extraordinarily hot, etc)
  71. • Give me, the player, a tiered cost structure that allows for free incidental pyrokinesis, effortful fire manipulation, and a more powerful, higher-cost flame blast
  72. • Give the drawback a more expansive trigger focused on situations of extreme duress
  73.
  74. ---
  75.
  76. PROPOSAL:
  77.
  78. Pluton's Leash (•, •••, or •••••)
  79. Prerequisites: Hellfire Castigation Rite
  80. Effect: Your character has nurtured a connection with their infernal blood that allows them to claim greater dominion over fire.
  81.
  82. At one dot, this grants the ability to manifest and manipulate very small fires, on the scale of making a candle flicker, or replicating the effects of a match or pocket lighter. Such a fire can be conjured as an Instant action.
  83.
  84. At three dots, this grants the ability to control existing fires, including those created with the Hellfire Rite. Spend a point of Willpower to assume control: on each turn an Instant action is spent concentrating, choose one of the following effects:
  85.
  86. • Increase or decrease the Size of the fire by 1.
  87.
  88. • Move the fire a number of yards equal to up to twice the character's Willpower dots.
  89.
  90. • Shape the fire into a specific form. This may require an Intelligence + Crafts roll to form it into a detailed or intricate shape.
  91.
  92. • Allow the fire to burn selectively, passing over an area [Resolve] yards in diameter, or up to [Resolve] individual target characters.
  93.
  94. Effects can be chosen or sustained multiple times across a single extended concentration, but if that concentration is broken for even a single turn, another Willpower must be spent and a Resolve + Occult roll must be made to bring the now-unruly fire back under their command.
  95.
  96. At five dots, this augments the Hellfire Rite directly, causing the fires of Hell to manifest directly at a designated location within line of sight, or on a designated target. As an attack, this is a Resolve + Occult roll resisted by the target's own Resolve, and it costs 2 lethal damage to activate instead of 1.
  97.
  98. Drawback: Whenever the character depletes their last Willpower point, suffers damage in their last three Health boxes, or suffers a breaking point, the Storyteller can call on their abilities to manifest spontaneously. Resist this with a Resolve + Composure roll, with a -2 penalty if there is an existing fire nearby. Waive the cost of these involuntary activations.
