- >Tuesday.
- >Sleep came easy once you got something in your stomach.
- >But waking up, that's something else.
- >The sun assaults your eyelids causing you to stir.
- >In an attempt to roll away from the suns burning glare, you roll off the bed.
- >Legs still on the bed, you curse a bit as you adjust yourself and stand up.
- >While doing your normal morning routine of cleaning up and eating, you found yourself using magic without realizing it.
- >Such as turning the hot or cold water up or down to adjust it.
- >And to hover a piece of bread while you spread jam on the other.
- >It was when you were spinning a butter knife around with magic like you do with small objects between your fingers that you caught onto it.
- >You didn't stop using magic but you tried to push it farther.
- >But your clock said you had little time to really practice with school coming up soon.
- >So grabbing your bag and devouring the last of your breakfast, you rushed to the door.
- >Placing your hand on the doorknob, a knock is heard from the other side.
- >Odd, but convenient.
- >Opening it you find a startled purple unicorn.
- >”Oh! Good morning Anonymous!” she says with a forced smile, clearly still startled.
- “Morning Twilight, come to walk with me to school?”
- >”Yes,” Her smile becoming less forced.
- “Well then lets head out.”
- >Closing your door, you lock it, sliding the key into your pants pocket.
- >Twilight looks at you funny before you gesture for her to walk down first.
- “You sleep okay? Hope your parents didn't get on your case too hard.”
- >”Yeah, I hope you don't mind but I came up with some more questions,” Her horn glows as a small stack of papers come out of her saddlebag.
- “No, not at all,” you sigh, grabbing them and putting them in your bag.
- >”I also want to apologize for my father.”
- “For what?”
- >”Well, uh- calling you a giant monkey.”
- “I'm not offended Twilight, it's fine. I remember something from my world about how us humans evolved from monkeys, it's fine.”
- >”You evolved from monkeys?”
- “I don't know, I was just getting into high school before I arrived in this crazy world so I'm not entirely sure.”
- >Crossing the street Twilight and you can see the school as you approach it.
- >It's a rather large school with any kind of class you could think of.
- >It had general learning for ponies of all ages.
- >Some special classes for, say, if you want to learn to cook something new.
- >It even had college for those ponies wanting more knowledge after finishing school.
- >And you can't forget the library, that fucker is HUGE.
- >Not like 'huge' huge, we are talking Mclargehuge with a side of supersize huge fries...
- >Man you miss fast food from your world.
- >Maybe you could make a business here selling greasy easy to make food...
- >Or you could gaze at the field as many ponies do various activities.
- >Unicorns are putting up ropes for Pegasi to do tricks through.
- >Some even lit on fire...
- >You even see what looks like football being played.
- >Walking up the stairs a cool breeze blows by as you open the door for Twilight.
- >Following her inside both of you rush to your classes.
- >Both of you find Mrs. Snowflake sitting at her desk greeting students as they file in.
- “Good morning Mrs. Snowflake,” both Twilight and you greeting her.
- >Class passes very uneventful.
- >You spend the entire time reading your book on a nice little chapter you found called “Magic stamina and you.”
- >It was a very enlightening read.
- >Nothing like learning if you strain yourself too hard you could put yourself in the hospital for months!
- >But after that chapter you found yourself looking at the table of contents.
- >Prestidigitation
- >Magic lights and sounds, throwing your voice or making illusions!
- >The entire chapter held your attention until Twilight pulled you from the book.
- >”Anonymous! Equestria to Anonymous!” her hoof waves in your face.
- “Huh wha!?”
- >”Class is over,” she giggles “You're almost like me when it comes to books.”
- >Shaking your head and rubbing your eyes, you pack your things up.
- “Truth be told, I hate reading.”
- >Twilight adopts a horrified look, almost like you just took a dump on her cat right in front of her.
- >”Oh... you looked so interested.”
- “Cause it's about magic, magic is interesting to me, something my world didn't have. I just want to learn everything I can about it, hell I want to cast spells just because I can!”
- >”Well,” Mrs. Snowflake walking up to you and Twilight, “Why don't you go outside and 'cast something' then?” she giggles.
- “Well fine, maybe I will!” you reply back jokingly.
- >Twilight and you leave the classroom and out of the school into the sunny afternoon day.
- >You watch several fillies and colts getting picked up by what looks like their parents or caretakers.
- >”So what do you have planned for today?” Twilight beginning to walk down the stairs.
- “Not sure, been reading this chapter on... prest-...prestidigitation?” opening the book you check to see if you said it right.
- “Magic lights and sounds.”
- >”Oh those are very easy, do you want help like with the fire?”
- “Maybe, but I still need to find a way to keep from lighting my thumb on fire.”
- >”Thumb?”
- >Holding your thumb out she lets out an “oh.”
- >”So all of your, um- fingers was it?”
- “Yes.”
- >”All of your fingers have names?”
- “Uh sure.”
- >You begin going over each finger for Twilight just because you had a feeling she was going to ask.
- >You will never know if she was going to ask or not but as you grow near your house you ask a question.
- “So hey, if you want to help me I would really appreciate it, I only have a couple of months to pass magic school.”
- >”I would love to help, but only a couple of months? That shouldn't be an issue with the special program you are in. But why only a couple months?”
- >You take the lead up the stairs and to your apartment.
- “I can't just up and leave forever, my parents need help around the winter time.”
- >”Oooh what do they do?”
- “My sister, Mom and me sell various things, Father hunts to feed us or get us leather to make something with it, I just sell. My stomach can't stand that kinds stuff.”
- >Twilight's face turns to utter disgust.
- >”I-I guess life is different in the griffon kingdom,” you can hear the effort she is putting forth to keep herself from thinking about it.
- “Very different, much different where I'm from and here by the looks of it.”
- >Unlocking your door you let Twilight in first before you walk in.
- >”What was your home like if you don't mind me asking... or if you can remember?”
- “I remember pretty well, didn't I tell you how I arrived in this crazy world?”
- >Twilight shakes her head as she floats her saddle bag onto the ground.
- “I was just walking to my first day of high-school, well not very first but for 10th grade. It was a normal day, I had just left the house. Down the road a bit I tripped over something and landed in a river. Naturally I freaked out because there was no river where I lived and this weird bird thing was pulling me out of the water immediately.”
- >”Oh my gosh,” she gasps.
- “It was pretty scary but I also got very lucky, it was around winter in this world when I arrived and I was dressed for summer. The griffons that pulled me out quickly started trying to figure out what I was, it was when I screamed for help they wrapped me up in a blanket... mostly to shut me up as they tied it around me.”
- >Twilight gasps.
- “After calming down and them trying to talk to me I started talking, eventually it led to them adopting me. That’s the short version of it anyway.”
- >”So you were just walking to school?”
- “Yep.”
- >”And after they pulled you from the water they adopted you...”
- “Well not right away, I was making a long story short by leaving out the weeks of me crying and freaking out at every little thing, they watched over me until I just accepted this is where I am.”
- >You shake off the memories of your arrival.
- “But anyway, magic.”
- >”Yes! What would you like to learn?”
- >Giving it some thought you come up with one.
- “Fire, it's nice being able to make fire but catching my thumb on fire isn't exactly fun.”
- >”Hmm, can you cast the fire spell a few times?”
- “Uh sure.” Sitting down you place your elbow on the table while Twilight watches with her horn glowing.
- >Gathering the elements, you create the small shield layer on your finger and thumb.
- >Snapping your fingers, you feel the elements ignite and take flame, engulfing your thumb.
- >Small panic, you wave your hand around.
- “Ow.”
- >”Hmmm,” Is Twilight’s only response as you begin to suck on your thumb.
- >Why does that even make it feel better?
- >Moving your attention to Twilight you see two thin purple shields floating in front of her.
- >After watching a bit, you feel some of the elements shift as she strikes both shields together in front of her, causing a flame.
- >Quickly she grasps it with her magic, feeding it energy to stay lit.
- >”I think I know what to do.”
- “Pease enwighten me,” you say, still thumb-in-mouth.
- >Twilight shakes her head.
- >”My idea is that you use basic levitation to control and move the elements and small shields away from your thumb.”
- >Quirking an eyebrow you think about what she is saying.
- >Slowly it sinks in.
- “So if I....”
- >Making the two thin shield layers on your fingers, you slowly drift them away.
- >Moving your fingers around, the shields respond with the movement.
- >Happy with this, you gather the elements.
- >All the while Twilight is watching your hand, not the spell you are casting.
- >Your hand begins to glow a much brighter color of gray as you push your magic farther.
- >Gathering the elements, you ready yourself.
- >Quickly snapping your fingers, the shields react, causing a flame to erupt.
- >This snaps Twilight out of her little trance with your fingers as the fire dies down.
- >Cheering you make a mental note to feed it energy next time.
- >But you stopped when her hoof touches your hand.
- >”Wait, I have to see something,” The curiosity is very clear in her voice.
- >You had no idea pony hooves were so soft.
- >”Can you start writing something?” She hovers a quill over to you.
- “Can I have a pencil instead, I'm awful with quills.”
- >Quickly she changes the quill for a pencil.
- >Putting one in your hand, you get ready to write something.
- “Anything in particular I should write?”
- >”Just write, with magic!” she quickly adds.
- >Listening to her request, you float the pencil out a bit before you begin to write.
- >Choosing to write the alphabet you go to town.
- A
- B
- C
- D
- E
- >It's fairly easy.
- >But you had to stop when Twilight started putting a pencil in your hand.
- >Confused, you look at her but she only nods back.
- >”Keep going,” her expression filled with excitement.
- F
- G
- >”I was right!”
- >Twilight's outburst startling you causes the pencils to fly in different directions.
- >The pencil in your magical grip flew out the open window.
- >The one in your hand flew into Twilight's mane.
- >Her response to it is just giggling as she picks it out of her mane and puts it on the table.
- “Right about what?”
- >”Look at what you wrote.”
- “huh?”
- >Looking down you see what you wrote of the alphabet.
- >Below it, you find two letters off the paper and onto the table.
- “Okay... so I wrote on the table...”
- >”Yes, with your hand while you were writing with your magic.”
- >Looking at the letters harder you attempt to understand what she is getting at.
- “Yeah I don't get it.”
- >”Ugh! What I'm saying is you can control magic physically.”
- >Putting a bit of thought into it you kinda understand but....
- “What does it mean?”
- >”Well,” She starts while picking up the magic book and flipping through it.
- >”You have a more precise control over spells you cast, let's take... hmmm,” She continues to flip through it.
- >”Ah here it is,” Sliding the book over to you, “Light, a basic spell. Should be much easier then fire.”
- >Grabbing the book you give it a quick skim and nod your head.
- >You just read this in class.
- >It does seem fairly simple, almost like fire but less elements and more focused on the casters' energy.
- >Gathering the energy and elements, you create a small yellow light with a gray center.
- >Its brightness reminds you of light-bulbs back home if you stared directly at them.
- >”Now move it with magic and not your hand.”
- ”Okay.”
- >Focusing on the light you manage to make it move very slowly.
- >”Now can you make another light in your other hand?”
- “Shouldn't be too hard...”
- >A little effort you make another light in your left hand.
- >”Now move that light physically...”
- >Your first instinct is to grasp it and move it but you refrain from that.
- >Moving your hand slowly the light follows, almost drawn to where you are giving it energy.
- “This is so much easier...”
- >”Anonymous, I have a question.”
- >Giving Twilight your attention, you put out both lights.
- “What's up?”
- >”Well, you can cast spells with your hands but what about the rest of your body? Unicorns use their horns to focus magic, but you can use your hands.”
- “Oh you mean magic like with my mind? Oh yeah it's how I found out about magic in the first place.”
- >Focusing on the pencil you move your hands away as you pick it up.
- >Straining a bit, you spin it around.
- “It's just a lot harder, when I'm closer to it it becomes easier.”
- >”Hm, interesting...”
- >You wait for her to say something else or clue you in on what shes thinking.
- >She gives no such sign as she opens the book and flips to another page.
- >”Just wondering, but what other spells do you know?”
- “Uhh.... besides levitation; fire, light and shields? Does feeling things out with magic count?”
- >”Nooooo...” she says almost disappointed.
- >”That’s all you know?”
- “Yes, unless you count me removing my thumb from my hand.”
- >Her attention snaps to you as you do the stupid trick.
- >Her response is just a sigh with a small smile.
- >”That’s not magic...”
- “True, but it is in my world, illusions and tricking the mind is what we had for magic in my world.”
- >”So everything you know is what I taught you?”
- “Yes, I have learned more these past two days then I have since learning about magic.”
- >You want to say Twilight's smile is that she's impressed but something tells you that’s not what it means as she looks around.
- >Picking up the book, you move to the table of contents to see what spells interest you next.
- >Sooth aches and pains
- >Sleep spells.
- >Potion brewing
- >Magic runes.
- >Teleportation.
- >Transformation.
- >Elemental magic.
- >The list goes on!
- “So what chapter should I read next?”
- >Twilight shakes her head, snapping out of her thoughts.
- >”What do you want to learn?”
- “I want to learn everything, but I have noticed something missing from all the books I have taken a look at.”
- >Her ears perk up curiously
- “I can't find anything like combat magic, such as throwing fireballs or bringing lightning down to strike.”
- >”They don't teach that kind of magic in school, and most of the spells like that are locked in Starswirl the Bearded's personal library.”
- “Oh... Why not? You would think since that changeling attack on you ponies they would teach at least some kinda magic to defend yourself.”
- >”Combat magic is taught to the guards, magic school is about magic it self, the science of magic.”
- “Is that why there's only 3 grades for magic school? Sorry 4 if you count kindergarten.”
- >”Yes, Kindergarten is required for unicorns who wish to enter Celestia's school for gifted ponies.”
- “So magic school's kindergarten is required for unicorns for Celestia's school? What about Pegasus?”
- >”Pegasi have their own school which is taught by some of the Wonderbolts.”
- “And umm, ones with no wings or horn?”
- >”Earth ponies have a kindergarten that all Pegasus or unicorns can attend also.”
- “So earth ponies don't have a special school?”
- >”Yes, but some unicorns can't use magic, some even have to wait until they get their cutie marks before their magic becomes active. Pegasi can have trouble flying, their school helps young pegasi learn to fly, and all the schools come together in the end.”
- “So magic school will be teaching me the science of magic giving me the tools to understand it... Guess it's not that bad.”
- >”Why, what were you expecting?” Twilight tilting her head slightly.
- “I'm not sure really, was kinda hoping to just have a spell book thrown at me so I could study that. Science sounds fun too, but I do have a question.”
- >”What is it?”
- “After Magic school, can I somehow join the guards just to learn magic?”
- >”I'm not sure... I can ask my brother, he's captain of the guard.”
- “You don't have to do that, let's wait until I pass Magic school.”
- >Twilight nods her head with a smile.
- “So I guess the best thing I can ask is what did you do while you were in magic school? Any books you can point out? Tips? Pointers?”
- >”Hmmm,” Twilight's hoof taps her chin.
- >”I was planning on going back to Ponyville for the weekend to visit my friends and check on my library, I may have some books that interest you.”
- “I would like that. So you have your own personal library?”
- >”Oh no, I live and work in one in Ponyville.”
- “You live in a library?”
- >”Yes,” She smiles.
- >You're unsure how to feel or respond to this.
- “So.... until then what should I read or do? Anything I should read to prepare myself for the next grade?”
- >”Hmm,” Twilight taps her hoof on her chin.
- >”Well it might be best for you to find something that interests you.” Stopping she looks outside.
- >”It's getting late, I need to go before my dad calls for the guard.”
- >Looking out the window you can see the sun slowly dipping down.
- “Wow, still feels like we just started, do you need me to walk you home or?”
- >”Oh no, I will be fine, thank you.”
- >Getting up, you walk her out.
- “Of course, goodnight Twilight.”
- >Twilight smiles at you before walking out the door.
- >You watch her leave until she's out of view.
- >Closing the door you let out a sigh.
- “Pretty disappointing... can't learn to hurl fireballs...yet”
- “Guess I'll have to learn myself or enlist in the guards...”
- >Tidying up a bit, you continue talking to yourself.
- “Could I join the guards though? Twilight's brother is captain but...”
- >Pulling out your wallet, you open it and look at the ID card you were forced to have.
- >It's more of a passport, but you're considered a griffon when it comes to legal papers...
- >Do they hire griffons?
- >Pushing thoughts aside you reach behind the ID and pull out an old school ID.
- >You smirk at the younger and much fatter version of yourself.
- “God you had no idea what was going to happen that day. You think it turned out okay....”
- >Putting the items away you decide to hit the hay early.
- Friday
- >Your head pops off the pillow.
- >In a daze, you take a quick glance at the clock through blurry eyes.
- >”Anonymous!” Twilight barging into your room. “We're going to be late for school!”
- >Not being able to make out what the clock says you curse to yourself as you get out of bed.
- >Just had to start studying late those past few days.
- >Was it worth it?
- >Maybe.
- >Grabbing a towel and clothes, you book it to the bathroom.
- >Jumping into the shower, you forgot to turn the hot water up in your rush.
- >Cursing, you throw up a shield to deflect the freezing cold water until it heats up
- >After your battle with the shower and throwing clothes on, you rush out of the bathroom and glance at the clock .
- >7:45....
- “Late? We still have 15 minutes until class starts...” you scowl at Twilight.
- >”But if we don't leave early we could be tardy...”
- >Her reason feels forced.
- >You can't help but wonder if it's that colt that sits in front of her.
- >Just the other day he brought in a note of some kind... covered in snot.
- >You're not sure if Twilight read it or not but you do know she teleported it away when he wasn't looking.
- >And man can that kid blow snot bubbles!
- >He's going to grow up and be a snotmancer!
- >His parents will be so proud!
- >”Are you ready to go?” Twilight asks bringing you back from your thoughts.
- “Yeah, lets go,” still irritated by her rude awakening.
- >Gathering your stuff, you wonder how she got in.
- >You lock the door every night, did you forget to lock it?
- >Trying to open the door you find it still locked...
- “How did you get in here?”
- >”Oh... ehehe,” Her horn glows before bursting into a bright light.
- >Rubbing your eyes you notice she's gone.
- >You witnessed her teleporting objects... you knew that was a thing but...
- >A knock at your door pulls your attention.
- >She can teleport herself?
- >What is she doing in Magic kindergarten?
- >Opening the door she smiles with a tint of pink in her cheeks.
- “What are you doing in magic kindergarten?”
- >Her expression takes a turn for the worse as she starts stuttering and carries a more embarrassed look.
- >”I-I-I W-well you s-s-see.”
- >Watching her try and come up with words is painful as you watch her kick her hooves on the ground or try and look up at you.
- >Taking a look at the clock, you decide now is not the time for this, if this is embarrassing for her then fine.
- >With a sigh, you get down on one knee and lift her head slightly to look at you.
- “It's fine, you don't have to talk about it. Lets get going before we really are late,” you give her a reassuring smile.
- >She smiles back with a nod.
- >Standing up, both of you set out to school.
- >You find it odd she's doing a... 'refresher' course was it?
- >You don't remember what Mrs. Snowflake said but you find it hard to believe it's a refresher course if she's embarrassed about it.
- >But you toss those thoughts aside as you reach the school.
- >Twilight's mood picks back up quickly as both of you make small talk.
- >But the small talk must end when you arrive to class, just before the bell rings.
- >”Alright class settle down,” Mrs. Snowflake says while passing out papers stapled together.
- >”We are having a test today to see how well you have been doing, also to see if Anonymous and Twilight pass.”
- >A few of the fillies and colts look back at you and Twilight confused, more so Twilight.
- >The classroom goes silent as everyone begins their test.
- >The test is very simple, you were warned by Mrs. Snowflake it would be simple but...
- >Most of these questions are just general questions.
- >If pony A is floating 3 apples and pony B takes 1 apple, how many apples is Pony A floating?
- >Well pony B should go get bent and get its own apples.
- >But other then that, the test was very simple and seemed more like a distraction so Mrs. Snowflake could have some quiet time to grade papers.
- >Passing the test forward, you feel sorry for Twilight.
- >The snotmancer got a hold of hers.
- >Twilight squirms at her desk as the tests are passed forward.
- >Fillies and colts who see the test make a comment about how it's all gross
- >This only causes Twilight to shudder a bit.
- >After all, the tests are up front, Mrs. Snowflake comes out from behind her desk.
- >”Alright class, you may go out to recess early. Anonymous, Twilight, can you stay?”
- >Both of you nod as the class books it outside.
- >Mrs. Snowflake chuckles as she brings the tests back.
- >”Eh... here Twilight,” She says hovering the paper just above the desk, “You pass.”
- >Twilight takes it in her magical grasp and floats it to the garbage.
- >All with a smile!
- >”Anonymous, I'm sure you noticed most of the questions had nothing to do with magic?”
- “Oh yeah I noticed.”
- >”Good, now then you passed this test but after giving it some thought and talking with your future teachers, we decided another test may be more appropriate.”
- “Alright, well what is it?”
- >Her horn glows as a small book flies from her desk over to her.
- >Opening it, she puts it on your desk.
- >”You only need to cast one of these three spells. If you can cast more, then that's great, it's meant to test what you know and what you're capable of doing now...”
- “Okay...” Pulling the book toward you.
- >First spell.
- >Light.
- >Easy enough.
- >You gather the energy for light and make one.
- >”Very good, I know the second one was giving you trouble.”
- >Taking a look, it's fire.
- >Two thin shield layers and the elements, followed by a small energy source, you have a small fire in your hand.
- >”Oh my! But how?” her horn glows as she scans the spell.
- >”Two thin shields rubbing against each other, how cleaver,” She looks over at Twilight who just smiles.
- >Third spell.
- >Transformation.
- >Oh boy...
- >Reading the instructions on how to cast it you find yourself wondering if you should try it.
- >It requires quite a lot of elements, which if casted wrong could end badly...
- >Reading it a few more times, you push the book toward her.
- “I might be able to... but I would rather wait until I feel more confident in my abilities...”
- >”There’s nothing wrong with that, we are still trying to gauge your magical abilities. Normally we would use a Dragon egg but with the recent shortage we need to find other methods.”
- >”You mean Anonymous hasn't taken the entry exam yet?” Twilight speaking up.
- >”No he hasn't, it's not his fault though, with so many new students and dragons haven't returned from their-” Mrs. Snowflake clears her throat, “Mating Ritual.”
- “Uhhh... Entry exam? Dragons and dragon eggs?”
- >Thoughts begin racing through your head.
- >'Do I have to slay a dragon?!'
- >'I haven't even met one yet!'
- >'Do I... Do I have to mate with one?'
- >'Oh god!-'
- >Twilight interrupts your inner monologue
- >”Dragon eggs react to magic, studies have shown they always react the same so some dragons trade away their eggs for bits or treasure... or to keep the eggs safe.”
- “Interesting... How do dragon eggs react if I may ask?”
- >”Twilight would be best to tell you, hers hatched.”
- >Twilight's response is just a light blush.
- “So dragon eggs hatching isn't normal?”
- >”It's very rare, dragon eggs have a special property where they show your magical ability in a very raw form.”
- “I don't think I understand...”
- >”That’s alright, most don't until they take the test.”
- “So the test isn't required?”
- >”Only if we have eggs, if we don't then...” Mrs. Snowflake sighs, “We hope our students will choose not to push themselves like you have just shown.”
- >Mrs. Snowflake looks at the clock real quick before turning back.
- >”I need to go check on the fillies, you two are free to leave early, it was wonderful to have both of you in my class.”
- >Mrs. Snowflake wastes no time in trotting out the door.
- >Turning to Twilight you smile.
- “Well then, what now?” you say gathering stuff and standing up.
- >”I'm not sure, I'm going back to Ponyville for the weekend to check up on the library and make sure Spike is okay.”
- >Both of you walk out of the class room.
- “Spike?”
- >”Oh, he's my number one assistant!”
- “Number one? Wouldn't that mean you have more?”
- >”Well, there is Owlowiscious, my pet Owl, but he's more of my study buddy when Spike's sleeping.”
- >Sounds like this Spike guy is getting pulled around by the chain, poor guy.
- >Opening the door, both of you walk out into the sunny day.
- >”Hey, you should come to Ponyville with me and meet my friends.”
- “I would love to, but I don't have the bits, sorry. Mom and Dad only gave me enough to survive on and I don't want to spend it all, last thing I need to do is starve.”
- >Twilight looks disappointed but also like she's thinking up a plan.
- >”Well that’s okay, maybe next time?”
- “If I have enough, of course.”
- >Twilight smiles at you as you reach your place.
- “So, you leaving today?”
- >”Yes, and I'll be back Sunday night.”
- “Guess I will see you at school next week, have a good weekend Twilight.”
- >”You too Anonymous,” She waves a hoof as you begin your walk up the stairs to your apartment room.
- >Guess you have to entertain yourself for the weekend.
- >Shouldn't be too hard.
