  1.
  2. Final Fantasy VI
  3.
  4. Platform: Snes / SFC
  5. Released (d.m.y):
  6. 02.04.1994 (J)
  7. 20.10.1994 (NA)
  8.
  9. Based on: NTSC-J-version (SHVC-F6)
  10.
  11.
  12.
  13. - DON'T EVER USE SKETCH!
  14. - You *cannot* reset the game by hitting the usual buttons.
  15. - You can use L and R to toggle between characters in the menu and go
  16. up and down pages (though only in the inventory). It was about time.
  17. - During battle, you can press the menu button to switch between
  18. characters that are ready to take action.
  19. - Exp is divided among active party members.
  20. - The game can be paused during battle (which will stop the play time
  21. counter from running) but not on the field.
  22. - The play time counter maxes out at 99:59.
  23. - Due to a programming error, physical evade does nothing. Instead,
  24. Magic Evade handles evasion for both physical and magical attacks. This
  25. also renders the Kurayami status (largely) benign.
  26. - The game is technically playable with an NTSC-PAL adapter, but when
  27. doing so, the game won't always display text in the menus.
  28. I'm not aware of any other issues, but I haven't played it much this way.
  29. Hopefully it doesn't do what Super Mario RPG does, which is crash on
  30. you with 100% certainty at certain points while also wiping out all
  31. the save files in the process.
  32. I strongly recommend importing a Super Famicom so you don't have to
  33. worry about stuff like this.

  83.
  84.
  85.
  86.
  87.
  88. Party: Tina (Terra) Lv3, Wedge Lv1, Vicks Lv1 \\\ Narshe ||
  89. Default (Terra): Mythril Knife, Buckler, Kawa no Boushi (Artifact),
  90. Leather Armor (Artifact)
  91. - You'll start off with 3000 gil and the special item (Daiji na Mono)
  92. Pendant.
  93. - Tina (or Terra) starts with two spells: Cure and Fire.
  94. - You'll fight a few fixed encounters before entering the mines.
  95.
  96. Boss: Ymir \\\ Narshe Mines ||
  97. - You'll fight the boss immediately after crashing the gate.
  98.
  99. [Boss]
  100. - Hold your attacks whenever Ymir retreats into its shell.
  101.
  102. Item (nc): Elixir \\\ Narshe ||
  103. - Check the clock.
  104.
  105. Items: (Phoenix no O, Nebukuro) \\\ Narshe Mines ||
  106. Default (Locke): Dagger, Kawa no Boushi, Leather Armor
  107. Default (Mog): Mythril Spear, Mythril Shield
  108. Boss: Guard Leader (+ 2× Silvalios)
  109. - There are two chests here, but I strongly recommend you don't open
  110. them. Later in the game, they'll be holding different items.
  111. - Eventually, you'll be in control of Locke with the objective of
  112. protecting Terra from the enemies with the help of some moogles. One
  113. of these moogles is Mog, who will eventually join your party as a
  114. standard PC. If a party is wiped out here, they'll just respawn (albeit
  115. with only 1 HP).
  116. - The scenario ends once you take out the Guard Leader. Before you fight
  117. him, unequip Mog's equipment so your other characters can use them (you
  118. won't be seeing Mog again any time soon).
  119.
  120. [Boss]
  121. - 420 HP
  122. - The leader hits fairly hard: ~50 pod with normal, ~100 pod with
  123. Totsugeki. Mog's team will have the easiest time here. You can use
  124. Locke's party first to try and steal a Mythril Knife, but it's not
  125. that important.
  126.
  127. Items: Potion, Nebukuro \\\ Narshe ||
  128. Item (nc): Ether
  129. - While you can't explore the town, you can at least check out the
  130. Beginner's House.
  131. - The trapped chest in the room with the save point doesn't seem to
  132. give you anything.
  133.
  134. \\\ Figaro Castle ||
  135. Items: Kin no Hari, Potion, Dokukeshi, Phoenix no O
  136. Item (nc): Auto Bowgun
  137. Default (Edgar): Mythril Sword, Buckler, Kawa no Boushi, Leather Armor
  138. Boss(es): 2× Madou Armors
  139. Shop:
  140. Potion 50 gil Auto Bowgun 250 gil
  141. Ether 1500 gil Blast Voice 500 gil
  142. Dokukeshi 50 gil Bio Blast 750 gil
  143. Kin no Hari 200 gil
  144. Yamabiko Enmaku 120 gil
  145. Phoenix no O 500 gil
  146. Nebukuro 500 gil
  147. Tent 1200 gil
  148.
  149. - After meeting Edgar, go talk to the woman in the west tower, then
  150. return and talk to Edgar in the throne room.
  151. - After the event, go talk to Locke in the east tower.
  152.
  153. [Boss]
  154. - Expect heavy damage from Madou Laser (~75). Better use the Auto
  155. Bowgun Edgar starts off with.
  156.
  157. Party: Locke, Edgar, Terra \\\ Cave of Figaro ||
  158. Items: N/A
  159. - There are three chests here, but I suggest you don't open them.
  160. - You should probably keep Edgar in the back row and use his Kikai
  161. attacks (Auto Bowgun mainly).
  162.
  163. Item (nc): Potion \\\ Sabin's Cottage ||
  164. - You can rest for free here.
  165.
  166. \\\ South Figaro ||
  167. Items: 500 gil, 1000 gil, 1500 gil, Hyper Wrist, Hermes no Kutsu
  168. Items (nc): Potion, Kin no Hari, Dokukeshi, Megusuri, Yellow Cherry,
  169. Phoenix no O, Elixir, Potion, Telepo Stone
  170. Shop:
  171. Dagger 150 gil Dash Shoes 1500 gil
  172. Mythril Knife 300 gil Jewel Ring 1000 gil
  173. Mythril Sword 450 gil Knight no Kokoroe 1000 gil
  174. Great Sword 800 gil Hoshi no Pendant 500 gil
  175. Ginbuchimegane 500 gil
  176. Kenpougi 250 gil
  177. Momen no Robe 200 gil
  178. Large Shield 400 gil
  179. Buckler 200 gil
  180. Hanetsukiboushi 250 gil
  181. Hair Band 150 gil
  182.
  183. - Some of the nc-items here would also get an upgrade if you wait until
  184. much later in the game, but it's nothing too exciting.
  185. - The two accessories are found on B2 of the rich man's house (go through
  186. the hidden path behind the bookshelf, then search the south wall on B1)
  187. - Hyper Wrist: Strength +50%
  188. - Hermes no Kutsu: Auto-Haste
  189.
  190. \\\ South Figaro Region ||
  191. Theft: Potion / Mythril Claw (Berumoodaa)
  192. - Scoring one of these would be nice, but it's nothing huge.
  193.
  194. \\\ Mt. Kolts ||
  195. Items: Main Gauche (Artifact), Kyojin no Kote, Tent, Tent
  196. Theft: Bandana (Zagrem)
  197. Default (Sabin): Metal Knuckle (Unique), Kawa no Boushi, Kenpougi
  198. Boss: Vargas (& 2× Ipoohs)
  199. - Kyojin no Kote: Increases physical damage by 25% or so.
  200. - You'll find the save point somewhat near the boss.
  201.
  202. [Boss]
  203. - After taking out the Ipoohs, you'll soon be in control of Sabin (aka
  204. Mash), who will have to finish him off alone. The only way to do so is
  205. to execute the Hissatsuwaza move Bakuretsuken by inputting Left, Right,
  206. Left, A. You have a limited amount of time to pull it off.
  207.
  208. - Sabin's special moves are delightfully powerful. Try to learn to use
  209. some of them consistently (even if it's just Aura Cannon). Once you can
  210. do that, you should probably place him in the back row.
  211. - Don't try to execute moves that aren't on your list yet. They won't
  212. work (that's FF8).
  213.
  214. \\\ Returners' Hideout ||
  215. Items: Hi-Potion, Phoenix no O, Air Knife, Phoenix no O, Knight no Kokoroe
  216. Items (nc): Yellow Cherry, Dokukeshi, Ether, Gauntlet / Genji no Kote
  217. - Feel free to pick up some Hi-Potions (300 gil each).
  218. - After you talk to Banon, you'll be in control of Terra alone.
  219. - Talk to all your PCs inside the hideout, then talk to the guy at the
  220. entrance.
  221. - You'll find Banon outside the hideout. Talk to him and he'll ask you
  222. something. CHOOSE NO!
  223. - Once you've said no to him, return to the storage room to get a Genji
  224. no Kote from the guy there. *Now* you can agree to help Banon out.
  225. - After the event, your party will consist of Edgar, Sabin, Terra and
  226. Banon. Banon is just a TPC, but if he dies, it's game over.
  227.
  228. \\\ Lete River ||
  229. Theft: Mythril Knife / Main Gauche (Lesser Ropurosu)
  230. Boss: Ultros
  231. - Ride the raft.
  232.
  233. [Boss]
  234. - Ultros can hit for as high as 200 pod, so better keep that Inoru
  235. fired up.
  236.
  237. - You are now presented with three scenarios that you can complete in
  238. any order. I'll start off with Locke.
  239.
  240. Party: Locke Lv14 \\\ Narshe ||
  241. Items: Iron Armor, Turbo Ether, X-Potion, Ribbon, Large Shield,
  242. Great Sword, Earring
  243. Items (nc): Jiisan no Sake (Special, Temp), Furudokei no Neji
  244. Theft: Hanetsukiboushi / Main Gauche (Shounin)
  245. Default (Celes): Hairband
  246. - Trigger a battle with one of the guys in Magitek Armor, so you can
  247. get their Rage later.
  248. - There's a merchant you can fight in the item shop. Steal his clothes,
  249. and the kid in the nearby building will let you pass, assuming that
  250. you're willing to fetch some 'cider' for his grandpa.
  251. - The sake can be found in the basement of the inn (there's a hidden
  252. path that lets you cross the river). You'll have to fight another
  253. merchant to get it.
  254. - Deliver the cider to the old man. When you talk to the kid afterwards,
  255. give him the correct password (Yuuki), and he'll open a hidden passage
  256. for you that leads to the rich man's house. Once there, proceed to the
  257. basement that you already checked out earlier.
  258. - Celes' spells: Cure, Poisona, Blizzard, Kappa
  259. - After freeing Celes, get the Furudokei no Neji from the guard. Use it
  260. on the clock in the nearby room to open yet another hidden passage.
  261. - In the next area, you'll find... lots of hidden paths. Yeah... Anyway.
  262. Keep in mind, unlike in FFV, there's nothing you can do to make the paths
  263. visible. You'll just have to hug the walls.
  264. - The Ribbon is completely hidden from view, right nearby the X-Potion.
  265. - The Earring boosts the power of magical attacks by about 25%.
  266.
  267. Theft: Air Knife / Bio Blast (Dig Armor) \\\ Cave of Figaro ||
  268. Boss: Dig Armor
  269. - You'll fight the boss right at the other exit. If you think you can
  270. afford it, de-equip your accessories, so that you can use them in the
  271. other scenarios. You will *not* get a chance to enter the menu after
  272. the boss.
  273.
  274. [Boss]
  275. - You can use Celes's Mafuuken ability to block some of its spells.
  276.
  277. - Thus concludes Locke's scenario.
  278.
  279. Party: Sabin Lv16 \\\ House by the River ||
  280. Shop:
  281. Shuriken 30 gil
  282. Konohagakure 200 gil
  283. Kagebunshin 400 gil
  284.
  285. - You can recruit Shadow to your party here if you want. He might ditch
  286. the party at times, though.
  287. - Stock up on Potions.
  288. - If you have the Earring available, give it to Sabin to boost Aura
  289. Cannon and Houou no Mai.
  290.
  291. - Once you reach the Imperial Camp, the game briefly switches over to
  292. Cyan (aka Cayenne).
  293.
  294. Lost & Found: Black Belt (Taichou) \\\ Doma Castle ||
  295. Default (Cyan): Ashura, Buckler, Kawa no Boushi, Leather Armor
  296. - Take out the leader. Back to Sabin.
  297.
  298. \\\ Imperial Camp ||
  299. Items: Hoshi no Pendant, Mythril no Kote, Barrier Ring
  300. Lost & Found: Green Beret (Satellite)
  301. - Better head out and save your game at this point.
  302. - Get the last three chests immediately after your first encounter with
  303. Kefka. One of them is a monster-in-a-box (Satellite + Teikokuhei).
  304. - The Barrier Ring is in the tent right behind the one that had the
  305. Mythril Glove and Satellite. Sabin will jump to it when you get behind
  306. the other one.
  307. - Once you have the items, chase Kefka. After a couple of events, you'll
  308. team up with Cyan and flee the camp.
  309.
  310. \\\ Phantom Forest ||
  311. - Wander around the forest to find a train (Maressha).
  312.
  313. \\\ Phantom Train ||
  314. Items: Earring, Phoenix no O, Sniper Eye, Phoenix no O
  315. Lost & Found: Hyper Wrist (Bourei)
  316. Bosses: Bourei, Merassha
  317. - There's a save point in the last car.
  318. - Hopefully you've gotten decent with Houou no Mai.
  319. - The ghosts will either attack you, join you, or sell you items.
  320. - When you enter the 3rd car, a ghost will block your way out. Beat him
  321. up, and you'll soon find yourself in the 5th car (second save point).
  322. - You can skip the 7th car. Nothing important there.
  323. - In car 8, you'll find 4 chests including a monster-in-a-box (I'll count
  324. these as bosses from now on).
  325. - Car 9: third save point.
  326. - In the engine room, you need to flip both switches on the side, then go
  327. to the front of the train.
  328.
  329. [Boss]
  330. - Nothing special here. A Phoenix Down would result in an instant kill.
  331.
  332. Boss: Rizopas \\\ Barren Falls ||
  333. - Shadow will leave the party here, so unequip anything important he
  334. might have.
  335.
  336. Items (nc): Elixir, Tama no Suzu \\\ Mobliz ||
  337. Shop:
  338. Mythril Knife 300 gil Iron Armor 700 gil
  339. Mythril Sword 450 gil Iron Helm 1000 gil
  340. Mythril Claw 800 gil Bandana 800 gil
  341. Kotetsu 800 gil Sankakuboushi 600 gil
  342.
  343. White Cape 5000 gil
  344. Hoshiniku 150 gil
  345.
  346. - You'll need to use Hoshiniku to get Gau in your party.
  347. - In order to score the Tama no Suzu, you'll need to complete a little
  348. side quest. In one of the houses, you'll find a guy lying in bed and
  349. a letter on the table nearby. Examine the letter (which is from his
  350. girlfriend) to read it to him. You have to keep sending his letters
  351. to her and reading the letters she writes back. You can send the letters
  352. in the house with the carrier pidgeys (it'll cost you 500 gil each time).
  353. For some reason, in order to trigger the girlfriend's letters, you'll
  354. have to talk to one of the shopkeepers.
  355. - Eventually, there will be no response. At that point, he'll give you
  356. the Tama no Suzu. The regeneration this accessory gives you per step
  357. is base Tairyoku/4.
  358.
  359. Default (Gau): none \\\ Veldt ||
  360. - The encounters on the Veldt (Kemonogahara) consist of encounters
  361. you've triggered outside of the Veldt. This excludes nearly all bosses
  362. and some other special encounters.
  363. - As you can see, Gau has no Attack command (not that he'd have much
  364. use for it seeing as he can't equip any weapons). Instead, he has
  365. Abareru (Rage) and Tobikomu (Leap), the latter of which can only be
  366. used here in the Veldt. When you use Leap, the enemies in that encounter
  367. will be added to Gau's Rage list. Using Rage then allows him to take on
  368. (some of) the abilities of these enemies.
  369. - There are about 250 Rages in total. Getting all of them is a pretty
  370. lengthy task. I never bother with it myself.
  371. - Default Rage: Zagrem, Angel Whisper, Were-Rat, Berumoodaa, Silvalio,
  372. Epokusupuresu, Karutagura, Shibiruamoru, Madou Armor.
  373.
  374. Items: X-Potion, Green Beret \\\ Crescent Rock & Serpent's Trench||
  375. Item (nc): Potion (Mikazukiyama no Doukutsu & Hebi no Michi)
  376. - Once you find the diving helmet, you'll immediately jump into the water.
  377. - Turn right at every opportunity to get the two chests.
  378.
  379. Item (nc): Elixir \\\ Nikeah ||
  380. Shop:
  381. Mythril Spear 800 gil
  382. Silk no Robe 600 gil
  383. Fairy Ring 1500 gil
  384. Kemuridama 300 gil
  385.
  386. - Once you're ready, board the ship to end the scenario.
  387.
  388. Party: Terra, Edgar, Banon \\\ Narshe Mines ||
  389. - The last scenario is very short and easy. Just go through the mines
  390. again to reach the house you woke up in.
  391. - Do *not* open the chest in the moogles' lair! It has a Rune Blade in
  392. it right now, but get it later and you'll get a Ribbon instead.
  393.
  394. Theft: Mythril Plate (Hell's Harley) \\\ Narshe Valley ||
  395. Lost & Found: Yasuragi no Yubiwa (Kefka)
  396. Bosses: Hell's Harley, Kefka
  397. - Once all three scenarios have been completed, your next mission will
  398. be driving away the imperial forces from Narshe. You'll have to split
  399. your 8 characters into three groups while doing so.
  400.
  401. [Boss]
  402. - Better steal that Mythril Plate.
  403.
  404. [Boss]
  405.
  406. \\\ Narshe ||
  407. Items: 5000 gil, Earring, Touzoku no Knife, Hyper Wrist,
  408. Touzoku no Udewa, Reflect Ring
  409. Item (nc): Elixir
  410. Shop:
  411. Engetsurin 2500 gil Iron Armor 700 gil
  412. Chain Flail 2000 gil Silk no Robe 600 gil
  413. Great Sword 800 gil Mythril Shield 1200 gil
  414. Air Knife 950 gil Iron Helm 1000 gil
  415. Mythril Spear 800 gil Bandana 800 gil
  416. Mythril Claw 800 gil Sankakuboushi 600 gil
  417. Kotetsu 800 gil
  418. Mythril no Kote 700 gil
  419. Barrier Ring 500 gil
  420.
  421. - Terra will be MIA for a good while. Choose a party from the remaining
  422. 7 characters (Locke would be highly recommended so you can keep stealing
  423. stuff). If you form a party with fewer than 4 characters, you can get
  424. Shadow to hang out with you again.
  425.
  426. Shop: \\\ Figaro Castle ||
  427. Seisui 300 gil
  428. Sunbeam 1000 gil
  429. Drill 3000 gil
  430.
  431. - If you put Edgar in the lead, you'll get a 50% discount on the items.
  432. - Talk to the old guy in one of the rooms near the entrance to move
  433. the castle.
  434.
  435. Item (nc): Brave Ring \\\ House North of Kohlingen ||
  436. - The Brave Ring is the Kyojin no Kote and Earring combined. It increases
  437. both physical and magical damage by a bit.
  438.
  439. Item: Green Beret \\\ Kohlingen ||
  440. Item (nc): Elixir
  441. Shop:
  442. Nejirihachimaki 1600 gil
  443. Katon 500 gil
  444. Suiton 500 gil
  445. Raijin 500 gil
  446.

  469. Boss: Dadaluma
  470. - Set the clock to 6:10:50 in one of the buildings to get the Chain Saw.
  471. - The Ryuukishi no Kutsu changes the Tatakau command to Jump. There are
  472. all sorts of glitches related to Jumping, so I suggest you never use this.
  473. It's not that powerful anyway, although you *can* double the damage if
  474. you're equipped with a spear, but even then it just takes too long.
  475. - The Touzoku no Kote changes the Nusumu command to Bundoru, allowing
  476. you to steal while attacking, which isn't *bad,* but I'm not sure if
  477. it's something worth wasting an accessory slot for.
  478. - There's no save point before the boss, but he's not that hard.
  479.
  480. [Boss]
  481.
  482. - Once you find Terra, you'll obtain your first Espers (Genjuu /
  483. Summon Monsters), whose powers are contained within Magicite (Maseki).
  484. Equipping a Magicite (through the Tokushu menu) enables you to:
  485. × learn spells (from now on, (most) enemies will give you AP)
  486. × summon the Esper
  487. × gain stat bonuses when leveling up
  488. - This is indeed the *only* way to permanently increase your stats
  489. (other than HP and MP). Unfortunately, none of these four Espers will
  490. allow you to increase your Strength, but we'll get some pretty soon.
  491. Increasing your Tairyoku (Stamina) is a *very* low priority. A higher
  492. Stamina rating will *not* decrease the damage you take from physical
  493. attacks.
  494. - In order to maximize stat boosts, you'd have to keep your levels as
  495. low as possible. However, I wouldn't actually recommend doing that,
  496. because of how frustrating it is. Even if you *did* pull it off, in
  497. the end, it wouldn't make any real difference. Even when playing
  498. casually, you can easily create a very formidable party.
  499. - If you've already done a normal, casual playthrough and would like
  500. to boost your stats further without going to extremes, then I suggest
  501. the following compromise: Start avoiding Exp once you hit Lv20, then
  502. level up the end of World of Balance, so you can survive and avoid Exp
  503. in the World of Ruin until you have everyone together again. Notes
  504. involving this particular approach will be indicated with [LL].
  505. - Speak to your other characters to "warp" out. If you walk out manually,
  506. you *cannot* trigger the event in Jidoor.
  507. - Locke and Celes will now be mandatory party members.
  508. - From now on, you should probably pay attention to which characters are
  509. close to leveling up, so you can switch to a useful Esper right before
  510. they hit it. Right now, that Esper would be Cait Sith, who gives you a
  511. +1 to Magic. It's not much, but it'll have to do.

  532. all of these.
  533. - Once you're in control of Locke again, go check the letter in the
  534. dressing room, then return and talk to Impresario.
  535. - You now have 5 minutes to reach Ultros before something bad happens.
  536. The first thing you need to do is unlock the door in the northwest room.
  537. Go to the northeast room to find four switches. Hit the right-most one,

  878. - [LL] As previously mentioned, you can't run away from Ninjas. They
  879. always come in two, but sometimes they're accompanied by a Platinum
  880. Dragon, in which case you can run away once only the Platinum Dragon
  881. is left. In all other cases, you just have to kill them and eat up the
  882. 347 xp.
  883. - Kojas are probably even more annoying than the Ninjas. Their special
  884. attack Usurawarai (which they use frequently) inflicts Stop, which will
  885. draw out the battles quite a bit.
  886. - Gigantos is guarding the second chest (just east of the Murasame).
  887.
  888. [Boss: Gigantos]
  889. - 1887 xp
  890.
  891. - The hole south of the Beret Bou takes you to the second save point.
  892. You're very close to Ultima Weapon at that point. You'll also get the
  893. chance to return to your airship, but if you do, Shadow will leave,
  894. and you'll have to start from the beginning again.
  895. - Getting more Genji Gloves would be nice, but the Dragons are just too
  896. rare. I only get one myself. (It's technically possible to get them at
  897. the Veldt later.)
  898.
  899. [Boss: Ultima Weapon]
  900.
  901. - Shadow will leave the party immediately afterwards.
  902. - After the event with Gestahl and Kefka, you have 6 minutes to escape.
  903. During this event, you'll constantly run into an enemy called Noode
  904. whom you can't run away from. [LL] Nothing to be concerned, though,
  905. as they don't give you any Experience.
  906. - In order to get the last chest with the Elixir, you have to circle
  907. around the cracks.
  908.
  909. [Boss: Nerapa]
  910. - You don't have to worry about much here. He has only 2800 HP.
  911.
  912. - Once you reach the end, choose the second option. After that, just
  913. keep waiting. This will trigger a scene with Shadow once the timer
  914. hits 5s (If you don't do this, Shadow will apparently wind up dead for
  915. good).
  916. - Your entire party will be scattered in the event that follows.

1519. Death Sentence on all your characters with Cloudy Heaven (can't be evaded).
1520. Those that die from it will turn into Zombies and there's no way to
1521. prevent it *or* heal it (at least none that I'm aware of).
1522. - She tends to counter actions with Ai no Senkoku, which causes the
1523. character to protect her until they're dead (doesn't cover Midareuchi,
1524. though). She can also use Yuuwaku to charm your characters. With Ribbons,
