- Back in her own room, Lady Han took off her regalia, tied up her hair, and put
- on casual wear. She then rested her chin on her hands and fell into a reverie, her
- mind filled with the image of the god Erlang. All of a sudden, an idea flashed into
- her mind. She told her servants to set up an incense altar in a secluded spot in the
- garden. She then prayed to heaven, saying, “If I am meant to have a bright future,
- please let me marry a husband who looks just like the god Erlang. That will be so
- much better than living a miserable life in the palace.” With these words, tears
- streamed down her cheeks. She bowed and prayed and bowed again, indulging in
- nothing less than wild flights of fancy.
- Then, the least expected thing happened: after her prayer session was over, she
- was preparing to go back to her room when, suddenly, a loud bang came from the
- depths of the flowers and a godlike figure appeared in front of her. Behold:
- With his dragon-like brows, phoenix-like eyes,
- White teeth and bright red lips,
- He had an otherworldly grace
- And possessed breathtaking looks.
- He must be from the immortals’ abode;
- His diet must consist of rosy clouds and dew.
- A closer look revealed him to bear exactly the same features as the statue of the
- god Erlang in the temple.
