- Homework: finish your paragraph to discuss and edit tomorrow
- ---
- Exchange your paragraph with your partner. Read it and offer suggestions (about fixing grammar and spelling, and about the organization). Make sure you can identify the main idea and the supporting reasons.
- ---
- Common mistakes:
- subject/verb agreement - If you’re talking about people in general, subjects should be plural and verbs should not have -s. If you’re talking about one person, you need an article (a/an/the), and the verb needs -s.
- punctuation - remember to use a comma after “for example”, “in addition”, “in conclusion”, “for these reasons”, etc.
- (Double check all of your transitions.)
- Usually, if a verb is the subject of a sentence, it should be the gerund form.
- “Smoking in class is bad.” “Eating while driving shouldn’t be allowed.” etc.
- ---
- “during” vs. “while”
- while + sentence / while + prepositional phrase / while + participle
- while they study / while in class / while studying
- during + noun
- during the lesson / during class
- ---
- I marked each line that has at least one mistake in your writing.
- Homework: try to find and correct the mistakes.
