- You awaken to the sound of your alarm clock's radio going off, loud music quickly filling the room. Years of practice guides your hand not to the snooze button, but to the volume knob on the side of the clock as you turn down the volume. With the music now nothing but background noise you lay there half awake, too comfortable to get up. Some time passes before you decide to will your body out of bed, with reluctance you climb out of bed and switch the alarm clock off. Taking a deep breath you prepare to greet the new day with your usual routine of taking a shower, getting dressed, and lounging around till it's time for work. Your expression sours as you hear noises coming from outside the bedroom, they sound too clear to be happening in another apartment, the sounds seem to come from within your own little sanctuary from the world.
- You freeze, your mind seems to recall everything that happened the night before. You start to remember everything, coming home to an apartment that was not the way you left it, your encounter with that 'creature' that stood before you in the guise of a woman, the letter it handed you...
- The letter! You look around the room in hopes of finding it, silently hoping that it was actually all just a dream. Your hopes however become dashed as you find it sitting neatly on the end table, stuck slightly under the alarm clock so it wouldn't fall off. Your heart skips a beat as you go to grab the paper, the simple question of 'how had I not seen it?' at the forefront of your mind. Again you unfold the letter and read it's contents, it's more or less how you remember it. You feel your eyes widen at the confirmation that this is all too real, which would mean that the creature is still in the apartment, YOUR apartment, YOUR sanctuary. Peeking your head out the bedroom you look around, seeing no immediate presence of the creature. Yet the sounds remain you notice, which means it's around here still. You leave your bedroom, nothing but your boxers protects your bare flesh as you cautiously walk towards the kitchen.
- A familiar noise emanates from the kitchen as you walk towards it, a noise you heard last night. It's the creature humming, and it's inside the kitchen doing god knows what. As you process this new information you find your fear replaced with confusion, more questions buzz through your mind. 'Why is it in there?', 'What does it really want?', 'Why hasn't it tried to devour me?', all these thoughts enter your head...until you smell something, a new thought entering your mind; 'What smells good?' With most of the fear replaced with curiosity mixed with hunger you peek your head into the kitchen, the creature bouncing seemingly content as it makes something upon the stove. Seemingly sensing your presence the creature turns around, it's face lighting up with joy as it sees your head poking through the door frame.
- "GOOD MORNING ANON!~" The creature greets you in a sing-song manner. "I went head and made some breakfast for you! I hope you like eggs and toast!" it cheerily announces.
- "I-uh-Yeah...Sounds fine," you reply.
- "Did you sleep well Anon~?" The creature asks you, turning back around to remove two slices of recently made toast from the toaster.
- "Uhh..Fine I guess..." You respond, fully stepping into the kitchen.
- "I'm glad! I was worried after last night you'd stay awake all night," it says.
- The creature looks over you, finally realizing you stand before it in nothing but your boxers. As it looks over you you can't help but notice it's face is becoming flushed again, as if it's either embarrassed by your body or something else. A small noise escapes the creature's mouth, you notice it's face seems to burn with embarrassment before it quickly turns it's back to you.
- "A-Anon, c-can you please put some pants on?" It pleads with you.
- Confused as to what causes the creature to turn away you retrace it's gaze over your own body and find the culprit. As part of your wake up routine, you've tucked the head of your morning wood into the band of your boxers, a section of the head of your shaft peaks out over the band itself. Is this what the creature saw and what caused it to turn back around so quickly? You're finding yourself taken aback by the creature's nature once again, not sure what to make of all of it.
- "Sorry?..." You say, "I was gonna take a shower anyways."
- "oh...OH!" The creature says, fumbling with it's own words. "I...Well....Ok Anon, you should get washed up before breakfast after all. Would you like me to grab you a change of clothes for the day Anon so they're ready when you step out?"
- "Nah, I can get my clothes myself I guess." You say.
- Your expression turns to one of worry as you watch the creature's flush harder than you've seen before as you mention this. You seem to seem to run the thought through your head why the creature would react in such a way, until it dawns on you what would cause the reaction. A look of humiliation crosses your face as you realize why the creature reacted the way it did.
- "A-At least make sure to dry off properly an-and make sure to wear a towel when you come out then Anon." The creature says as it tries to regain it's composure.
- All you can do is nod in acknowledgement, your face burning red with embarrassment. This entire situation was maddening, the creature even more so with it's displays of humility and modesty. Whatever this thing was in your home while not human behaved like one. Stepping into the bathroom you go about your business, prepping the shower before stepping inside and washing up. As the steam fro mthe hot shower rises it you find your mind wandering, mostly questions about where the creature came from and why it's here. The letter itself explained why it's here, but you have problems believing it. While it's been ages since your teenage years where you claimed to be atheist, you still doubt they exist, just not as much as you do now. As the water runs over your body you ponder what 'god' would initial the letter 'R.D.', perhaps a quick search on-line before work would yield a result you wonder. Your mind is still abuzz with questions and frustration about the situation. Stepping out of the shower your mind tries to make sense of at least one thing in the entire ordeal, why had the letter called that creature your 'wife'? Sure you weren't too keen on dating women, given the state of affairs in the world, but who or what would think that creature was compatible enough for you to ever consider it a wife material. Your leave of the bathroom stops abruptly as you put a hand on the door-knob as you remembered something, you had forgotten to throw a towel around you before leaving. You laugh to yourself, the thought of making yourself decent for that creature seemed silly. However you logic it away, seeing as it had made breakfast for you and the added bonus of it having not tried to do anything unspeakable to you the night prior nor while you slept, so a simple act of decency isn't too tall a request you figure.
- "Did you have a good shower Anon?" The creature asks as it sets down a plate of scrambled eggs and toast on the table.
- "Unless another one of whatever you are popped out of my shower drain, it was pretty uneventful," you say rather backhandedly. You notice however your comment has a rather negative affect on the creature, causing it to shrink at the harsh words.
- "I'm...uh...sorry, bad choice of words...I'm just...gonna get dressed," you choke out, trying to save what has become an awkward situation.
- "It's ok Anon," the creature says smiling. "You're still just stressed about the entire situation. Please don't worry though, I'll do anything I can to help you."
- Nodding you walk off towards your bedroom, closing the door behind you. Your mind concocts several questions as you finish geting dressed, most of them aimed at the creature. Sure the letter talked about some things, but you feel as though it said a whole lot of nothing.
- "You look nice Anon!~" The creature says looking over you. "Breakfast is ready, I hope you like it!"
- "Thanks," you reply.
- Sitting down in front of the eggs and toast you eye them carefully, the creature watching watching you like a eager child. Swallowing hard, you scoop some of the egg up in the fork and shove it into your mouth. The taste is what you expect of eggs, again you find yourself over reacting to something that seems to really mean you no harm.
- "Not bad," you say with a mouthful of eggs.
- "Anon, please finish chewing before speaking, it's rude." The creature lightly scolds, causing you to laugh.
- "Whats so funny Anon?" it asks you.
- "I'm being lectured on table manners by something not of this Earth," you say as you shovel down another mouthful of scrambled egg. "Now that we're on that subject what the hell are you?"
- "Anon please! What did I just tell you?" The creature says with some frustration.
- Holding up a finger, you swallow the food in your mouth. "Right, sorry...but seriously why are you here?" you ask, "also could you take a seat? It's a bit weird having you stand over me like that."
- "Oh, of course Anon!" It says, "I'm sorry."
- The creature sits opposite you at the table, it's yellow eyes trained on you
- "Now then," you begin. "I already read the letter, but I'd like you to tell me your name yourself first off."
- "Of course Anon!~" The creature says cheerily, "my name is Cassandra. I'm happy we're finally getting time to talk."
- "Why exactly are you here?"
- "My master said they wanted to give humans a really nice present and that I would help them in seeing if their gift would be the right idea."
- "Wait, who are your masters?" You ask, feeling as you're making some headway
- The creature frowns in disappointment, "didn't the letter tell you?"
- "Not really no," you say with a shake of your head. "A lot of it was disjointed, like the person writing it was just writing down whatever they were thinking."
- "I'm sorry Anon," the creature apologizes. "I promise though, I'll try my hardest to help answer questions you have."
- "Forget it," you say. "It's not your fault, honestly I think I'm just ready to accept this entire situation as is. Thanks for breakfast by the way, it was actually good."
- The creature beams at your compliment, seemingly proud of it's accomplishment of earning your praise.
- As you get up to bring your plate back to the kitchen the creature stops you, "w-wait Anon, I can take care of that!" It says.
- "Well you made breakfast, at least lemme clean up," you offer the creature.
- The creature tenderly takes the plate from your hands, "Thank you Anon that's very sweet of you, but you should relax."
- Thanking the creature for the meal once again you leave the table and head to the living room, plopping down on the couch and mindlessly flipping through the channels. The droning of the television mixes in with the sounds of the creature cleaning in the kitchen. You're unsure of how much time has passed, but eventually the creature enters the living room, standing off to the side of you.
- "You know you don't have to ask me to sit down," you say to it. "It's even more weird that you're just standing there if anything."
- "S-Sorry." It says, taking a seat next to you on the couch.
- "Don't apologize, it makes it weirder than it already is," you say as you continue to flip through the channels.
- Suddenly you feel something slump against your body, in a knee jerk reaction you look over to find the creature leaning against you. Panic grips you as you jump up, your sudden movements seem to jerk the creature awake.
- "What the hell do you think you're doing?" you demand of the creature
- "Sorry Anon," says the creature weakly. "I just feel dizzy, I haven't really had a chance to eat."
- "Why the hell haven't you eaten?!" You snap angrily, part of you surprised that you are showing concern for the creature's well being.
- "I'm sorry," it repeats, holding it's head as it tries to stand.
- "Listen, I'll make you something, just..." You stop yourself, "what do you eat anyways?"
