Special Containment Procedures: SCP-███ (Field Agent █████) is to have a level three secure site in Area ██ at all times. Area ██ will consist of a variety of Muist-sponsored entities, and is to be treated by Foundation agents as a highly valued mission. In the event the SCP Foundation learn of the location of SCP-███, mobile teams are to be dispatched to cover its location, and to guard area ██ from future exposure. In the event a Foundation operative encounters SCP-███, he is to immediately alert Class-A Anomalous Threat-Cavity containment. Agents present in Area ██ are to remain in the facility for several weeks, and would be permanently removed if they fail to adhere to a regularly-scheduled field assignment. Within Area ██ itself, instances of SCP-███ should be treated as research materials, and temporary containment should be considered.

Description: SCP-███ is a walled-off community of Muists.

SCP-███ was constructed entirely in 2003. The structure is composed of a single altar resembling one found in Palenque, Mexico, except it is seven stories tall, has seven entrances, a central platform, and 37 minarets surrounding it.

All visitors to SCP-███ are given the following rituals:

Individuals are to be fed SCP-968 upon request. An 80cm x 80cm x 20cm transparent sphere is constructed of argon-feldspar of known composition. The sphere's diameter when not touching the surface of SCP-968-1 is 225 cm. Subjects are encouraged to explore their cage's regions in search of anomalous data. Once a standard cleanup procedure is completed, any instance of SCP-968-1 or personnel unable to deal with their assignment are to be terminated immediately. Description: SCP-968 is a set of nesting cylinders resembling stalagmites from Norway. Observations of SCP-968 have shown several unique properties: stargazing, autonomous movement, and decreased consciousness. Structures embedded into each cylinder, designated SCP-968-1, are able to regrow upon decomposition. Nests are capable of autonomously mutating into long corkscrew-like structures that partially merge to form SCP-968-2. Corkscrew structures emanating from each bunker are capable of reaching speeds of 3000 km/h. SCP-968-1's internal structure is consistent with the structure of stalagmites. Inside each artifact is a matrix composed of highly polished argon-feldspar, possibly extracted from an unlabeled sphere stored in SCP-968-2. Researchers have determined that any personnel which interacts with SCP-968-1 as subjects become mentally unstable is likely to become a target for SCP-968-1. Item #: SCP-968  Object Class: Keter  Special Containment Procedures: The Site-88 Security Force (Site-88-SFP) is to be continually reinforced. A kontrol team made up of residents and custodians of Site-88 are to be permanently stationed at each of the site site's restrooms. An advanced security system installed at the site ensures that all members of the security force are fortified against SCP-696, and that a reinforcing team at any site site is available to reinforce team members. The site-88 sanitation system and website ( www.scenario636.net ) have been entirely rewritten to accommodate for SCP-696. Specific security personnel are now assigned at each site to ensure that community members do not notice the tampering with the site's sanitation system. Description: SCP-696 refers to two anomalies located within SCP-███ and SCP-███ (locations that are for the most part uninhabited). SCP-696 manifests when members of an International Order of the Holy Sepulchre - Akon Khalifah Sar-bar along with any non-Dedicated volunteers upon arrival at any of the sites. These subjects perceive the other members of SCP-695 as interfering figures attempting to affect their spiritual practices. When a person encounters a member of SCP-696, they are subjected to an extremely stressful situation characterized by a series of imaginary events. These events originate from a series of videos posted on the site's security camera. Prior to a SCP-696 incident, a security team assigned to a site, including at least one member of SFP, will demonstrate heightened physical responses and mental health. These personnel will be tasked with ensuring that other members of SFP remain properly inattentive, alert, and distracted from the situation at hand. Upon the arrival of one member of SCP-696 at the site, the affected member will become visibly distressed at the presence of the other. However, they will not communicate with the other individual. Upon initiation of SCP-696, the affected individuals are blindfolded, escorted through a series of sites by a security team, and questioned by an oversight team for an estimated total of thirty-six minutes. Subjects who are released will often experience a low level emotional distress. Subjects who do not get discharged are permitted to remain at the site, where they are promptly dismissed once their emotional response subsides. While SCP-696 manifests in anomalous conditions at all three of the site sites, no full instances of SCP-696 appear in the streets. SCP-696 is not manifested on a regular basis, and does not appear to result in any ongoing anomalous effects. Attempts to record SCP-696 outside of the site environment and accounts of its effect seem to be doomed to failure, as many residents in SCP-███ and SCP-███ seem to believe the events depicted on security camera simply do not exist. Description: SCP-968 are veritable bodies of highly corrosive water, composed entirely of sublimated calcium carbonate. It remains unclear as to their source. These bodies remain unseen, invisible to the eye. All contact with these bodies causes cellular damage and emigration, and upon death these bodies trigger a spontaneous diaphragm. It was discovered that these bodies would spawn readily when placed near aquatic environments, and SCP-968 numbers over ███ bodies in its habitat. (See Addendum-I)

SCP-968 is considered an effective means of containment. Individual bodies are immobile and negligible, and are concentrated under the United States of America and Canada. SCP-968 now seems to function in all countries when it is in an efficient location, be it an oceanic area, an airfield, or a metro area, except Mexico where it suffers issues. Transporting SCP-968 near populations is also impossible as it creates a geomagnetic field around a body of water, preventing any humans or vehicles from passing through. It remains unknown if these objects create similar magnetic fields, or if it is a feature of the radio wave emitted by the radio receiver mounted on the SCP-968. SCP-968 is capable of transmiting radio waves anywhere that it is capable of floating on liquid surface. Drones stationed near SCP-968 emit radio waves capable of catching attention of receivers with a radio receiving range of 10 to 15 kilometers. SCP-968's resistance to electromagnetic fields made of conventional electromagnetic projectiles is also unknown.

SCP-968 has previously been observed to attack densities of humans. As such, it is observed in daily surveillance attempts to place robotic containment devices near human population centers. If SCP-968 encounters an increase in density of humans, it will spawn into a state of diaphragmatic emigration. It does not act as a singular entity, however, since it can produce up to ██ bodies when this occurs.

Individuals infected with SCP-968 report the presence of being engulfed in a white flash or something similar. Symptoms include headache, sore throat, body aches, nausea, and vivid memories of suffocation. There is no correlation to current life expectancy attributed to SCP-968, which seems to remain constant. After several weeks, most of those effected develop symptoms of heart failure, and must take heart medication while undergoing immunologic treatment. During this period of ill health, the infected will develop an aversion to solar radiation.

Description: SCP-962-1 is a multicellular organism that has yet to be identified. While it is completely self-contained within its containment cell, it contains various levels of cerebellum and spinal cord. The organism is believed to be capable of movement and internal stratification, though further study into the specific mechanisms behind this should be undertaken. SCP-962-1's primary food source appears to be speciated black fungus. Of note are that SCP-962-1 is a carnivore and prefers to feed on the flesh of vertebrates.

SCP-962-1 has no specific aim other than to consume and consume. However, the composition of the biological material and the self-contained configuration of SCP-962-1 make it difficult to determine when they are actively feeding and when they are passively eating or are in a dormant state.

SCP-962-1 is capable of ejecting a █████ ray several centimeters in front of itself several times in the course of an hour. This appears to serve as an advanced form of contagion, as this is a new and highly specialized weapon that is virtually impossible to counter.

SCP-962-1 began developing anomalous symptoms after SCP-962-1 was exposed to an organism that has yet to be identified. Currently SCP-962-1 is classified as the most dangerous and anomalous anomaly encountered so far in Foundation history.

A collection of amnestics has been assigned to all personnel infected by SCP-962-1. Personnel infected by SCP-962-1 appear to retain the consciousness, memories, and thoughts of the individuals that they infected. Personnel have displayed a strong physical and mental retardation as well as certain anomalous traits, which have led to a select few being administered Class-A amnestics.

From the point of infection, all infected have developed a vegetable diet, alongside a complete allergy to reptilian/vertebrate matter. Donald Trump will make his first major push to win over red-state Americans on Thursday.

The president will make a speech to a business group in Kentucky to sell the benefits of his administration’s economic policies, to be delivered in the capital of a state with close to a sixth of Trump’s electoral votes.

Kentucky is the best states to play in, according to an assessment made in February by the White House and a much larger group of conservative activists, dubbed the Conservative Opportunity Society, in the hope that the “country’s economic engine is also its governing engine.”

If that plan holds, Trump could go from a historically unpopular president enjoying high negative approval ratings to an electable one with big legislative wins as his first big legislative achievement.

Expect Trump to hammer “Buy American and Hire American” and other of his campaign promises to sell the benefits of the president’s policies and to try to convince Kentuckians that his actions are the best thing for the state.

On an off-day for the president, senior adviser Jared Kushner and daughter Ivanka Trump are also scheduled to attend, according to people familiar with the trip.

Last week, six Republican governors, all from red states, published an open letter requesting the federal government direct several billion dollars to specific states for infrastructure and trade projects. A similar letter, signed by more than 60 Republican governors, was released in February.

Kentucky’s new governor has called the federal ban on certain state and local tax deductions an unfair subsidy inversions on top of a losing healthcare law. Trump will likely try to encourage governors to press lawmakers to support his arguments.

“The federal government benefits from the state's participation,” said David Levinthal, communications director for the liberal Center for Responsive Politics. “There's a substantial, strong argument on the campaign trail and in Congress that states make a huge amount of economic and job-creating power into the national economy. We hope he will do that for these governors, and they’ll hopefully listen.”

In Kentucky, Trump can point to a state economy that is outperforming the nation, with strong job growth and relatively low unemployment numbers. The tax deduction issue has seen some states opposing the federal tax relief offered to their states.

In interviews last week with the local media, Mitch McConnell expressed reluctance to support the tax cuts. McConnell insisted last week that the Senate should abandon his plan to repeal Obamacare, which House Republicans are also working to push through on their own.

The animated sitcom was reworked to put the show closer to "Boris," and seems to favor glowering, arrogant patriarch Stewie Griffin, played by actor Chris Parnell. The television show's plots are very much predicated on the strangeness of Parnell’s actions and expressions — described by HitFix TV critic Alan Sepinwall as “smartass Borscht Belt farce,” "shockingly bad" by The A.V. Club and “terrifying” by TVLine.

Despite the visceral negative reaction, Parnell is a found-footage fan, letting everybody see the entire walk to work, turning his family into a ghostly body bag, and turning his sister — played by Kristin Schaal — into a toaster. He often goes shirtless, as he did in the part of the scene that was unveiled. And his brazen arrogance gets no sympathy from his family.

The scary part about the trailer is that it seems so on-brand with the "Family Guy" tone. The new version of the show was originally "tactical with cheesiness," per a line from creator Seth MacFarlane. But this new trailer provides plenty of ammo to draw the cuteness back to the show.

In her new book, ‘The Perfect Victim’, Gerena Thibodeau investigates how therapeutic practices conducted in the mystical tradition — including ridding a client of malicious evil spirits (ashba’a), yoga and self-talk therapy — exploit and marginalise the most vulnerable in society, the victims of society.

In ‘The Perfect Victim’, Thibodeau defines as victims those who are treated as if they are not physically or mentally competent to make their own decisions. This misinterpretation of these individuals has a number of serious consequences, yet Gerena explains that these misguided approaches “produce a form of pathological masochism — as if a person cannot be at fault for bad circumstances and bad choices”. The toxic dynamics that go through these “risks creating the illusion that very poor people are very weak, and as long as they have the required framing of the problem — and because a therapist is able to meet their needs and not bother to inquire into their story — the therapist does not have to ask them any difficult questions.”

Research has shown that being the victim of violence does not have an affect on individual’s body image or health, and research indicates that a person’s current psychological conditions are unrelated to the likelihood that they will become victims of violence in the future. Unfortunately, many of the people who are at risk of becoming victims, Gerena explains, are not able to access the services they need, much like poor communities that do not have access to services that are not maliciously bundled into “societal” safety nets.

In the book Gerena discusses the ways in which patriarchal world views dictate the way in which abusers and others who harm women and girls see women and girls. For example, a woman and girl is always wrong, and is clearly destined to become a victim of violence. Such distorted perceptions leave many women and girls without viable coping mechanisms, which often leads to a sense of hopelessness, shame, and isolation.

Gerena explains that important issues that feminist commentators sometimes focus too much on are reducible to what she calls “gender politics” — men’s responsibility for the perpetration of violence, and which groups are allowed to “win” feminist struggles. She states that, for example, within the feminist movement, when there are instances where men were responsible for the perpetration of violence, feminist discourses tend to be focused on the ways in which sexism is practiced by men, rather than more importantly the ways in which sexism can also be practised by women.<|endoftext|>Decision won't make current housing burden any lighter Copyright by KHON - All rights reserved Video

An administrative law judge from the Pearl City has ruled that housing costs are adding an additional burden to people trying to buy a home.

The judge said subsidies for affordable housing in Honolulu will have to be increased for low-income residents.

Judge Patricia Greenbaum ruled Tuesday that raising rent subsidies for rental housing without an adjustment to what the Honolulu Housing Authority determines the acceptable amount for cost of living, could violate federal and state law.

There are different affordable housing plans throughout the island, but the judge determined that some areas will have to increase their rental prices, or have to find private-property owners to help subsidize the added cost.

The judge ordered that the cost of living increase for low-income residents from January 2017 to September 2017.

Critics of this ruling say that the additional cost could make the current housing burden heavier.

"For some people like me, when you leave your house on Oahu at 7 or 8 o'clock in the morning, you want to get in a cab, you want to grab a coffee or coffee spot, you want to get the train down to where you're going," said July Kimura, an employee at Kaiser Permanente Hawaii.

The judge determined it is not fair to the "non-market" housing to give special treatment to housing subsidy based on individuals with a special need to get into housing.

The Housing Authority said they are ready to comply with the ruling, and the new rules should be effective in September.

"We feel like there will be some hardships, but it is a good thing. We want to work with the tenants on a city level," said Minae Bakar, chairwoman of the Housing Authority.

The Housing Authority says they are in the process of taking a look at the amount of funds needed to help tenants who qualify for their rent subsidy plan.

There is a fascinating paradox to witchcraft. It has been used to advance social justice, but also to imagine the ‘other’ – the marginalized, the non-white, the non-Christians. Recently, I reread ‘The witch’s tale’, a wonderful book by late 19th century writer Sarah Parkhurst. The book depicts a harrowing story of a girl who is cast out of her family for going to a boys’ school and forced to find a broomstick in a seedy London toilet before eventually being ‘pricked’ with an ‘unholy’ burning stake and told it would be her downfall – a fate that threatened many, but failed to deliver.

I have read this story over and over. In it, the author shows us a girl’s harrowing experiences of the colonization of Britain in this period, a collection of grisly incidents (together with wonderfully imaginative characters) in which an inquisitive and courageous girl wonders what it means to be from the ‘other’, who might have been ignored by the white children in her family. Her subsequent educational ambitions in witchcraft provide a grim and tragic counter-theory to the genteel regime of education at this time. I thought this story encapsulated the horror of colonial colonialism, the suffering of the colonized, the horror of the blank-cheeked colonial subjects struggling to find their place in the world, without a straightforward hope of doing so.

Rooting this grim story in the real, moral horror of colonialism was, of course, its most powerful contributor. The racist narrative of ‘the white man, setting up a colonial educational system’ that Parkhurst evokes – that of the subjugation of the English-speaking and nation-less, of the justified murder of the ‘transient’ – but also of the latter’s claimed innocence in these monstrous deeds (the justification for murder is precisely that it is justified and essential) was not the only reason why I thought this story so powerful, but it was certainly a vital part of it.

Similarly, the extraordinary opportunity to see (as I still think about it) an ordinary girl cast off from her family who must free herself of this oppression and find her place in the world, discovering the true validity of her curiosity, her intelligence, her beauty, her wit – and discovering the goodness in others, turning this event into a source of genuine community, a beacon for a new, more equitable, more accepting kind of society – this happened to me in 2008. It happened to me in 2012. It happened to me in 2014. It happened to me as I was toying with a spell of magical writing in 2013. And so I think we can imagine an alternative history of Britain in the 19th century – not one where a burnt house hanged two women for witchcraft, or a blank-cheeked daughter of India transformed herself into a scholar; but a more nuanced story that hides the darkness while revealing the splendor, and helps us imagine a future emancipated from the ruin of colonial education.<|endoftext|>Reds manager Dusty Baker will have one job left to do Tuesday when the Reds open their spring training camp in Goodyear, Ariz.

Infielder Khris Davis is on his way to the Korea Baseball Organization and he said he will call Baker when he arrives for an emotional goodbye, the night before the Reds’ first exhibition game, against the Pirates.

“My family is out there,” Davis said in a phone interview. “I’m pretty sure Dusty will know he will have to be up here for some time. I feel like some of my stuff is going to end up on YouTube or something, but I will say goodbye.”

Davis, a first-round draft pick in 2011, has been trying to return to the majors, but hasn’t been able to sign a contract. He had been scheduled to return to the Reds’ system in April and begin the season at Class AAA Louisville, but he went back to Korea. He said he got an offer from the Nexen Heroes that he couldn’t reject.

With over 10 years of research dedicated to learning about medieval guilds, the history of the sacral trade and the history of witches, Gerena Thibodeau is seeking to challenge contemporary perceptions of witchcraft and the beliefs surrounding supernatural powers. BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A Brooklyn father was so outraged when his 6-year-old's tattoo drew the ire of other parents that he decided to take action.

He filed a lawsuit against the owner of Empire Tattoo on Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn and two tattoo parlors, according to the New York Post.

The lawsuit claims that tattooing such a small detail on a small child's body — for no refund — is "a gross violation of NYS child labor laws."

The plaintiff, Thomas Martin, filed a complaint with the Department of Labor in November 2014. He also filed a False Claims Act lawsuit, a federal criminal lawsuit, against Empire Tattoo and DePaul Tattoo and Classic Tattoo.

"These kids are so small, it’s essentially a pain in the butt," Martin said, according to the New York Post. "If there’s no way they can get a refund, then there’s no way they should be getting tattoos, period."

Martin also claimed that they are not allowed to tattoo specific areas on his 6-year-old son, Horace, because of the hazardous tattoos.

In his complaint, Martin said the tattoo artist didn't have the rights to use his name.

“He was selling unauthorized materials and he was doing it on little kids,” the father said.

Martin filed the complaints in November 2014 with the Department of Labor and a False Claims Act complaint, which comes with fines and an order to turn over profits.

The tattoo parlor owners and tattoo parlor owners claimed Martin's claims were unfounded, according to the newspaper.

Martin claimed that the tattoo he received was the same one all 3,130 pounds of tattoo on his body are.

"As a father who has a 5-year-old and a 4-year-old daughter, this breaks my heart," Martin said.

The tattoo parlor operators do plan to fight the lawsuit, the New York Post reported.<|endoftext|>The Associated Press reveals a new chilling confrontation in the investigation into the 2009 murder of the Pakistani Bahais: the office of the local police chief rejected the search warrants issued by local prosecutors because they were prepared by the Bahais themselves.

The Bahais had no role in the killing of 57 men, women and children at the Waheed Adhikari shrine in Gujranwala, Pakistan, on March 1, 2009. The Bahais are an ancient religious minority that is only officially recognized by Iran. The shrine was also the site of a grisly execution in 1980 for conducting illegal marriages between Aryans, the members of an Arya Samaj cult. Local politicians are responsible for the police authorities in the district.

The Bahais obtained court orders to search the shrine and police arrest warrants, but commanders said they did not have the authority to support the Bahais, said Khalid Firoozi, a lawyer who has represented Bahais before courts. Officers arrested a Bahais leader after local bikramyat — religious ceremonies that require special attire and dietary restrictions — took place May 1 at the shrine, according to the lawyer, Farzana Shaikh, who was arrested along with her husband and six other Bahais that day. They were held for an hour and released. … “Although Bahais are not explicitly targeted for being religious minorities, officers treating our community with contempt, and have expressed concern that we are a threat to their extremist government, is a sign of religious intolerance and the religious motivation behind the murder of innocent individuals,” said Firoozi, who said she continues to be harassed because of her association with the Bahais.

How has witchcraft been intersecting with other movements? Does that create a new type of cooperation, or other types of challenge for you as an activist?

Witchcraft is part of the street and street culture in both the traditional sense, as well as in new punk and EDM ‘horror’ aesthetics. As more people begin to recognise the political threat posed by the rise of global authoritarianism, more individuals are coming to the realisation that traditional gender binaries, patriarchy, class exploitation, and the politics of nation-state are no longer fit for purpose; traditional ways of living and organising are broken beyond repair. Increased numbers of young, disaffected men are being thrown onto the streets by their families, as traditional authority decays.

As institutions in the Western world crumble, people in the street are beginning to realise that ‘they’ are part of the problem. Many witches who come from the urban underclass now face the choice of either becoming a cannibal, pillaging the ‘resources’ of our social state in order to survive, or becoming a victim of mass murder. It is challenging for many individuals to imagine that they could be a victim of that kind of violence, let alone to challenge these real structures of power that have been allowed to continue for far too long.

Witchcraft is the only ‘religion’ in society that genuinely is rooted in reality and science. It is no wonder that the mythology and presence of witches are everywhere on our societies, not only as a reminder of our past; they are thus standing in for our wisdom, our dedication to change, and our refusal to be swept along by the waves of fascism, extreme right ideology, and corporatism that are literally sweeping across our countries. Witchcraft is the only force on the street that confronts the daily injustices that face us here at home. Witchcraft is the only force that talks about the virtues of respect, duty, empathy, and community – these are the fundamentals of maintaining dignity, sustainability, and empowerment.

Angela Rogers was sitting in her son's red Prius, waiting for his teacher to come for her youngest child, Emi, when the wheels of the car she was in suddenly gave way.

Emi Rogers died shortly after the crash on a residential road in Markham on May 8.

"I thought my son, they're not playing ... this could have been my child, you know?" she said.

Description: SCP-4350 is a construct of furry, jellied concretia (testimony to its utility) constructed in such a way as to make other creatures mistake it for a live animal. When one achieves this by sticking their proboscis (underground and finger like sensory apparatus) into SCP-4350's mouth, the object starts to speak in a whispery voice, with the result that the proboscis is able to communicate with the creature in a way that is neither seen nor heard by the outside world. Researchers believe that this ability is gained by the proboscis entering SCP-4350's mouth via means of saliva or mucus. Following this, SCP-4350 will begin to follow the affected creature, slowly sedating it while it succumbs to SCP-4350's false speech. SCP-4350 will continue following and communicating with the creature for as long as the creature is in distress. Once a full rescue has been conducted on SCP-4350's host- the proboscis is expelled and the object will revert to its built form.

SCP-4350 was discovered to be in existence by an agent called ███, attached to Project Sealall. On Foundation monitors monitoring the Haffron Forest. ███ was to meet Dr. ██████. It turned out to be an ecologist from the museum of natural history who was to handle [REDACTED]. When she refused to go without a research assistant, Foundation agents captured Dr. ██████ and retrieved SCP-4350. Additionally, an agent went undercover to determine the effect of SCP-4350 on other animals. SCP-4350 was viewed on monitors, as well as in the local zoo- a goat of some kind had appeared. In tests, SCP-4350 apparently altered the behavior of various livestock in significant ways.



Addendum: SCP-4350 was designed by Dr. James Snyder, a Professor at [REDACTED]. An anomaly had arisen that even Professor Snyder could not find out. However, he had said from a very early stage, that he would work on the Foundation research team in forming a mechanism that would gradually return SCP-4350 to its [REDACTED] posture and state. This later became SCP-4350-1. When Professor Snyder ended his employment, the entity no longer benefitted from his field of research, and lost itself in obscurity. The entity was unable to get contact with Foundation personnel until containment began. SCP-4350-1 initially had the same shape, shape, and tone as SCP-4350. Until the entity emerged in the CIA vicinity in ██/██/████. It now seems to have gradually lost contact with the rest of the world. SCP-4350-1, still unable to speak but indicating containment in numerous ways, has started attempting to communicate with its former host, SCP-4350. SCP-4350-1 now thinks that it is the sole creature on the planet. SCP-4350-1, the anomaly now is searching desperately to be noticed, so that it can escape.

There are conflicting explanations as to what SCP-4350 was built to be. Amongst researchers, the majority of the group has stated that SCP-4350 was built by the species of one deceased SCP Foundation researcher. This hypothesis, however, is not supported by other team members. They suspect SCP-4350 to be a hybrid, which seems to be happening. The anomaly now has been terminated four times. Addendum-3: In a small area on the planet, SCP-4350 is capable of manifesting itself in a human form. It acts like a normal human being in everyday life, even interacting with others. It also has a desire to interact with other humans as a means of communicating. This also results in SCP-4350-

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4350-1 is kept locked in a standard humanoid containment chamber at Site 533 with a 3 meter wide, 16 meter high hole in the outer wall. All personnel are not allowed to enter the chamber and are only able to send personnel through the hole if they are under direct guard. All the maintenance personnel are to wear Level 3 Level I hazmat suits at all times.

In the event of a leak or failure of the containment chamber the entity is to be sedated and its movements are to be monitored through several sensors. A threshold is to be set so that an effective containment chamber is present within the chamber. These measurements are listed below:

Level 1: Visual input is ensured with the use of a video feed capable of recording at an interactive rate of 25 Hz.

Level 2: Automatic pattern recognition software is utilized to automatically alter the visual content of any video feed from Level 1 into the normal set of contents.

Level 3: Standard bomb disposal equipment is used to destroy existing media and remove the original SCP-4350 containment chamber.

Level 4: Leak detection is utilized to detect any conditions that could lead to a breach of the chamber and are to be actively monitored through an automatic suppression of potentially harmful video feed from Level 3 onwards, but no human beings are permitted to enter the chamber, regardless of the visual input they appear to be viewing.

Level 5: The original chamber is completely destroyed regardless of the input nor the result of the containment procedure as a full endpoint of the SCP-4350 process is an endogenic warfare organism capable of randomly altering society. Any attempts to access or access the media in the room remain strictly forbidden. While the presence of the entity and it's ability to communicate with humans are remarkable, the entity's behavior during the containment procedure is alarming. Two of the easiest observable indications of this alarming behavior are:

Instances of either attention seeking or narcissism are displayed when interacting with humans (but not devices or other entities). If any attempt is made to cause the entity more attention than it deserves, it responds violently and attempts to defend itself with the other human beings observing it. Any attempts to communicate with the entity result in aggressive and hostile responses. Description: SCP-4350 is a silver-colored silver-colored airtight volume labeled "Summit Exam Course 2". SCP-4350's contents are several incipient anomalous entities, referred to as SCP-4350-2. Upon being opened by one or more subject, SCP-4350-2 will manifest on the surface of the chamber, appearing to possess the same underlying humanoid form of the subject.

Description: SCP-4350 is a photograph depicting the author of George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. All of the photographs captured by SCP-4350 are of the Author, which are mostly black and white, which result in a striking discrepancy in the results of various cloning techniques. Information obtained from SCP-4350 has indicated that it is not alive, although it does resemble the author at times.

Photographs of SCP-4350 carry a 5██-levels classified warning that has proven to be accurate in all cases. It reads as follows: I am the world's most famous picture. SCP-4350-2 is the original containment unit, currently housed in Site-96. The full description of SCP-4350-2 is reproduced below.

3. A door that opens to a sloped interior. The walls and ceiling are composed of black marble. The inside of the room is set up like a normal prison cell. There is a single metal bed inside and a one-man bathroom. The kitchen and bathroom door are locked shut with a key.

4. SCP-4350-2 is contained in a circular steel-and-wax container. The dimensions of the container vary depending on the size of SCP-4350-2's containment cell. It is composed of a thick layer of solid steel, covered by a layer of wax, and capped by a lid made from black stone. The lid has been removed on three separate occasions and tested as containing no air for extended periods of time. The public has never experienced the hatch and has always been allowed to enter through the main entrance in Site-97.

5. The window in the containment cell of SCP-4350-2. It is 1.4m across and made of yellow glass. The inside of the window, however, is not black; in the center of the window is a pale white painted patch. A hole is cut into the window in order to allow the temperature of SCP-4350-2 to be maintained at room temperature. The removed window is covered in ink. For the purposes of this test, it has been blank.

6. The main door of SCP-4350-2 is set up as a typical prison entrance door. It is in use 24 hours a day.

SCP-4350-B is to be sterilized immediately before travel to another point in the Milky Way Galaxy, SCP-4350-B is to be transported to a control room when returning from SCP-4350-B to the Euclid system, and SCP-4350-B is to be transported to another series of satellite orbits where it is to be kept in a pre-approved storage locker until the end of the current mission.

Description: SCP-4350-B is a set of eleven 6-inch (15 cm) diameter water bottles (SCP-4350-B-1 through -11), labeled “Water.” The majority of SCP-4350-B is a green, jade colored liquid, usually in the form of a a viscous gray liquid. However, it is occasionally hidden within one of the bottles, and can be perceived under certain conditions as a colorless liquid. To date, the owner of each of the bottles has been unable to identify the material that is currently being hidden in the bottle.

SCP-4350-B’s anomalous effects manifest only after SCP-4350-B is presented to or viewed by the class V sapient Elder One, SCP-4350-A. Elder One’s presence is considered to cause SCP-4350-A to retain SCP-4350-B’s entirety and, if SCP-4350-A is SCP-4350-B’s “stable form,” it will begin to effect the general populace upon SCP-4350-A’s presence.

Elder One will begin to insist on SCP-4350-B’s explanation for the fundamental purpose of SCP-4350, expressing disbelief that water could possess any inherent value. Elder One will also, over time, exert an influence over the actions of all mortals present with SCP-4350-B. However, Elder One will always result in significant improvement in the populace’s moral behavior following its interaction with SCP-4350-B. Once a threshold of maturity is met, regardless of prior activity with SCP-4350-B, individuals will begin following Elder One’s instructions, and their actions will receive SCP-4350-A’s approval or approval-based on the subject’s actions.

Those who are doused in water will also begin to comprehend the very serious nature of nature, and begin to avoid the water in question at all costs. Special Containment Procedures: This object is to be kept in a standard humanoid containment cell at Site-██, undisturbed by the general public and protected against violent interrogations by staff. Physical access is restricted, and the nearest male human is to be present during all attempts at interaction. Communication with SCP-4350-A is permitted, though interaction with the subject is limited to through electronic means. SCP-4350-A is to be equipped with an ankle brace and reinforced clothing for protection when interacting with other organisms. All attempts by SCP-4350-A to interact with a human subject, however, should be reported to Foundation personnel upon the subject's explanation of why the interaction is needed. In the event that an approach is spotted, personnel are to be preemptively withdrawn.

Description: SCP-4350-A is a humanoid, male, phenotypically intermediate between an animate human and an amorphous entity. The entity consists of a torso, lower legs, upper legs, and arms which have a smooth, circular surface. The legs do not have perceptible joints, though the arms appear to have a rotation in which their radius is equal to the base radius. The subject displays no innate sense of being organic; therefore, the entity cannot be killed by traditional means. Subject may be killed via mouth or eye contact, but never through direct fire. This leaves the only reasonable alternative to communications with the subject.

Communication can begin from its person, primarily with its eyes, mouth, and face. The subject can move, rotate, and look from direction to direction at will, and has the ability to understand the speech of any subject under the same circumstances. It will automatically wait for the object to initiate a reply in whatever form it chooses. Language can be communicated in many different ways: symbols, sounds, facial expressions, and even photographs can all be used to share information.

SCP-4350-A currently shows no obvious sign of intelligence, and communication does not seem to be directed at a specific subject. Instead, SCP-4350-A appears to understand and respond to universal physical laws and conventions, and appears to enjoy interacting with other living beings. Due to this, attempts to match the subject's skill with human cognitive functions such as logical reasoning appear futile.

These bonds seem to remain when a subject is physically separated from SCP-4350-A, suggesting that this entity is unwilling to release its subjects from the bonding if the subject has a deep enough desire to be bound with it. This has not yet been verified, however, as SCP-4350-A has never disappeared or transferred subjects to other objects.

Addendum: Incident Resolved, 27.06.20██

SCP-4350-A and D-3333-052, a female humanoid, were originally assigned to a mission to collect data on SCP-4350. Reports made during the mission indicate that SCP-4350-A attempted to activate a "Beast' s Den" inside Site-██, containing ██ D-Class personnel. This had no apparent effects on D-3333-052, but caused a mild ████ oration about the raid's importance in exchange for a high-stakes card game known as "Tiger and Raven". During the mission, D-3333-052 and SCP-4350-A bonded and were successful in successfully retrieving nearly all traces of SCP-4350 from Site-██.

D-3333-052 and SCP-4350-A were later released from Site-██ and became a part of D-Class efforts to access Site-██. A tournament was formed in the Leesburg, Virginia, area for both D-Class and Foundation personnel; the subject matter of this tournament is currently unknown. D-3333-052 was appointed to one of the head teams, and the tournament was ended at a local tavern.

The subject itself was never found, but researchers recovered a photo of an entity containing similar morphological features to the subject's visible anatomical features.

Description: SCP-4350 is a collection of 47 curved black wood planks of varying dimensions, clamped together at the ends of an identical facade. No changes have been observed to SCP-4350, either visually or thermally, and every piece in SCP-4350 is unequivocally authentic, or is confirmed to be defective. No piece of SCP-4350 is painted over, and all appear to have been placed by a human being.

Addendum 4350-1: Following the disappearance of Research Director ████ ████████ during a test of SCP-4350's blocking powers, it was determined that a complete inspection of SCP-4350 was warranted. In a procedure conducted in 12-hour intervals, a team of five (5) security personnel viewed ████'s research slides before setting the planks in motion. The Foundation have been using the supervision of security personnel for approximately 200 hours ever since then. All security personnel will be considered a Class D subject until a clearance level of 9 has been earned.

Analysis of each piece of SCP-4350 indicates that all portions of SCP-4350 were set in place by the same person, consistent in the style of the planning, the materials used, and how the objects were positioned. Lead researcher ████ had previously estimated that it would be uncommon for one person to set all 57 pieces. The photo evidence suggests that SCP-4350 was set in place by ████ ████████ shortly after the Foundation obtained the administration of Site-26. Analysis of communications SCP-4350 had with the Foundation indicates that ████ had not intended for SCP-4350 to be used to block SCP-4350's deformation, but had begun doing so as a result of experiments concerning SCP-4350's self-protection capabilities.

When SCP-4350 is completely blockaded, approximately 30 seconds will elapse during which the roof of SCP-4350's testing chamber cannot be closed. SCP-4350 was encountered in 2012, when ████████ ██████ attempted to base the exterior of SCP-4350 on a model provided by the Foundation. Most noticeable is the presence of a single black cylinder, measuring 30.13cm in diameter. The Cylinder was previously believed to have consisted of two separate cylinders, one in Bendigo, Australia, and the other in the North Atlantic ocean (nearest to Fajã Grande, although this island is submerged in W-255). However, it was discovered that these consist of a single cylinder which passes through the Earth's mantle and core. Both ends of the Cylinder, hereby referred to as SCP-2498-A-255, terminate at 8.817 kilometres above sea level. The constitution of SCP-2498-A-255 is of an unknown radiation-absorbent composite material, which does not show any signs of structural decomposition in the presence of temperatures exceeding 30,000°C, is completely inelastic, and cannot be scratched by any material known to the Foundation, including nanocrystalline diamond. In December 2014, Boyko issued a written ruling in which he said that an eight-year-old boy who accidently shot himself with a semi-automatic handgun manufactured by USMag, a distributor of Smith & Wesson handguns, would have saved his life if it weren't for how the weapon was stored. SCP-3550: With all due respect, a human being is not something you can turn into a thing. Only at the end of an existence, in the darkness of oblivion, will a human be transformed into whatever. Are there no black holes? How do we know the universe doesn't have, let alone one as dense as, say, the Multiverse? Your society doesn't think in those terms. You must accept the universe as it is. And of course, "nothing is more important than humans" isn't really what you're saying. You're just a weapon, an instrument of the universe, and we need to utilize you to our fullest.

Within these realities, the universe that SCP-3550 inhabits remains unchanged. Thus, any entities subject to SCP-3550 are exposed to realities in which they do not exist.

Unless a being attains advanced knowledge of events, actions, thoughts, abilities, and/or genetic traits of SCP-3550, it is not possible to directly influence events (subjects in such instances are believed to go on to have the same ultimately nonsensical world as SCP-3550). These potentially affected realities are designated as SCP-3550-1 and SCP-3550-2.

SCP-3550-1: Agent Frank Engle arrives on the scene of SCP-3550-1. Agent Engle discovers SCP-3550 and subsequently undergoes SCP-3550-1. Agent Engle examines the local Chtorran society, spending two weeks observing and thoroughly studying its mechanisms. Agent Engle is brought before the local CCG, but is released due to his insistence that he did not want to go to the CCG. This is thought to be a case of paranoia. Officer Kathryn Johnson, Agent Engle's supervisor, urges him to surrender. After further warning and threats, Agent Engle surrenders to CCG personnel. Following interviews, Agent Engle states that he had brought SCP-3550 to CCG personnel as a form of testimony.

SCP-3550-2: Agent Paul Cardwell discovers SCP-3550 and undergoes SCP-3550-2. Agent Cardwell observes SCP-3550-2 and takes charge of the remaining Agents from the previous Staff Sergeant. Agent Cardwell amasses a small army of Agents to halt SCP-3550. Over the years, SCP-3550 has begun to increase in number and drive away Agents. After several weeks, SCP-3550 concludes and begins moving away. The CCG is later contacted regarding SCP-3550 and is asked to contain it. Agent Cardwell is shown transporting SCP-3550, saving Agent Fox from the CCG.

SCP-3550-3: Contrary to the experiments by Agent Fox, Agent Cardwell and Agent Fox discover a creature whose identity is unknown. Agent Cardwell learns that the beast is a copy of SCP-3550-1. At night, Agent Cardwell is attacked by SCP-3550. The witness to the event reports hearing the roar of a rocket launch.

At this point, five encounters have been recorded with SCP-3550, the fifth coming at 09:45 hours. The following is a partial list of SCP-3550's appearances, although it is believed that further encounters will occur in the future.

SCP-3550-4: Upon entering SCP-3550-4, Agent Cardwell states that the massive creature is a copy of SCP-3550-1. Despite persistent questioning by Agent Cardwell, no information has been offered as to the current existence of SCP-3550-4.

SCP-3550-5: Approximately 30 minutes after entering SCP-3550-5, Agent Cardwell is killed by SCP-3550. Agent Cardwell was attempting to communicate via telephone with Agent Fox and the Head of CCG who were attempting to pacify SCP-3550. SCP-3550 spared Agent Cardwell's life due to his belief that Agent Cardwell knew more about the Foundation than he did.

SCP-3550-6: Upon entering SCP-3550-6, Agent Cardwell converses with SCP-3550-7. Agent Cardwell implies that the violent behavior within SCP-3550-6 stems from the inability of SCP-3550-7 to explain itself.

Note: It was discovered during CCG research that the Foundation has had the ability to separate copy/machines since at least ██-██-20██, in order to study them. This discovery has caused much concern and confusion in the Foundation. There is currently a focus on developing methods of concluding this situation, especially with a resultant copy of SCP-3550 in the neighboring world. It is also believed that the hidden spirit within SCP-3550-7, which is the cause of this situation, may be the cause of a series of psychopathic attacks against the Foundation by SCP-3550-7. SCP-3550-7 attempts to contact SCP-3550-2 via radio. SCP-3550-7 states that it is the entity that Agent Fox and Agent Cardwell found in SCP-3550-1 and must allow them to follow the trail of the other two anomalous beings. Attempts

Typically upon initial manifestation SCP-3550 propagates through parallel universes due to the property of spatial unbinding that allows for its manifestation in infinite parallel realities; except for when accessing SCP-3550 while the user is logged in the Site 13 computer system, during which only a single consistent universe-spanning SCP-3550 instance is created and is confined to the point of memory access. The users localized to this point of memory access are susceptible to the effect of SCP-3550 (the looping spatial anomaly) by entering the loop and localizing themselves at the point of memory access. The dimensions of the universe that the user realizes upon their exposure to SCP-3550 do not have to overlap with that of another user. During initial manifestation and as the user becomes familiar with SCP-3550, regular (noninteractive) attempts at portal creation cease and access to random universes results only in the aforementioned spatial anomaly looping in the same state.

Description: SCP-3550 is an indestructible and endlessly looping black cylinder measuring at 12,605.86 km in length and 12,605.86 km in width. In each of the infinite parallel universes created by SCP-3550, the radius of the black cylinder is proportional to the distance from the center.

SCP-3550 always manifests at the point where memory access in that same universe begins. As SCP-3550 does not create a boundary to the world it creates, someone who experiences any sort of experience within this loop can escape their place of memory access to any looping universe and end up in another that they might perceive as similar or a different reality entirely; however, when this occurs no information will be transferred from the looping reality to the nearby reality where the user began working on SCP-3550. Regardless of what information a user is able to transfer, they will not be able to utilize resources or functions within the looping reality. That is to say, a user in a universe in which the information they are able to transfer is twice the level of their current level of intelligence will be unable to gain or access information six times their level of intelligence. Most memory modification or disassociation occurs as a side effect.

In order to extract information from the random looping reality they are in, the user must complete a task that they had no knowledge of attempting to access before accessing SCP-3550. Should the user or one of their accomplices be able to complete all three steps in this process, the user will be in a universe with information equal to or larger than the level of intelligence and data memory they possess. The process requires knowledge of user desires, skills, and knowledge that a simple dimensional portal would not allow and risks entangling the user into a paradox that violates the laws of time and space.

After the user is in a universe with the greatest potential for information acquisition, if a third round of SCP-3550 processing takes place inside this universe, the user will be infected with the SCP Foundation Scranton Reality Anchor Virus and be able to access any looping universe. After one round of processing, this virus becomes unstable and results in the virus mutating into a form identical to SCP-3762-A: SCP-3762-A is an anomalous virus that infects any brain cell capable of storing neuronal signals, creating what looks like an animated brain that remains inactive in reality. Due to the impermanence of brain cells, however, the infected brain cells will self-destruct within 24 hours of infection. The infected brain cell triggers a flight-or-fight response and will attack anything they can while maintaining a wide variety of abnormal behaviors. Currently SCP-3762-A has not proven to be a threat to humans since the replication process is not yet complete.

Addendum 3350-B:

Recovery Log

The first object recovered under SCP-3550 was a human jawbone retrieved from a sewer line in Chinatown, Chicago, on 05/18/2012. No information about the person and case is known at this time.

On 05/30/2014 another object was recovered from outside a residence in Beaumont, Texas. O5-█ instructed a local police team to destroy it based on information about the SCP Foundation contained in the organic materials found within.

On 06/04/2014 the first instance of SCP-3762-A was encountered in a virtual reality simulation. On the same date a simulation of Manhattan and Tequila Sunrise by a fictional band named "Face Cravings" was discovered in the apartment of the user of the original SCP-3550 instance.

On 07/03/2014 a use of SCP-3762-A manifested in one of the 256 parallel realities contained within SCP-3550. Once the volume

Its unique interior space has no weak points due to its powerful gravitational field, making it dangerous to travel through. This space is inaccessible to other forms of life, and has no communication with the rest of reality. SCP-3550 was discovered in 1988 by Manfred Clynes while he was still a student at the University of California Los Angeles.

SCP-3550 was first fully explored by Foundation scientists in 2005, after the 31st-Climbing Trials Incident. A comprehensive team of researchers under the lead of lead researcher John Hostler descended into SCP-3550 from a nearby satellite station, arriving in late May before embarking on exploratory expeditions. The group attempted to carefully explore SCP-3550 while avoiding the structure, especially inside the giant twisting corridors which diverged randomly in such a way as to allow new openings to be discovered by spontaneous collapse. The exploratory teams located artifacts, recovering basic information on SCP-3550 and its internal operations. As well as discovering the structure, however, they also discovered startling sights.

Among the emerald-green sandstone walls was a skeleton of a humanoid creature, believed to be approximately 50 centimeters tall at the shoulder. Looking closer, the Foundation discovered that the creature had a phallus extending from its posterior, a double rows of teeth attached to its sides, as well as three distinct characteristics: atop its head, a fork-shaped skull, and a slight bulge where its eyes should be. Stomach protruding from its mouth were several pincers bearing small scales. Surrounding the main body were five pairs of spines, bent as if to hold the creature in place, and covered in bony growths similar to those on human bones. The distinct aurochs characteristics of the spines were found, embedded into the bony growths.

The team soon attempted a frontal assault against SCP-3550, although many of the events assumed to be the actions of SCP-3550 resulted in the Foundation suffering casualties. Due to their advanced weaponry, however, the team was able to repel the forces of SCP-3550, and opened a new escape route to the side of the structure. Following the initial assault the team found itself deep inside SCP-3550, beyond the ability of recovery by Foundation assets. The team was able to conduct exploratory expeditions without risk of a structure collapse.

The team used the vertical nature of SCP-3550's halls to safely access more chambers as they explored. Because of the nature of the structure, the tunnels continually moved, destroying them and they found that they could still climb within. However, due to SCP-3550's design the rooms tended to vanish in the later stages of the expedition, and the mission eventually came to a close after it was discovered that space inside SCP-3550 only had one open exit. Due to SCP-3550's gravitational field, the hole could be manually dug with simple rock hammers.

The collected documents describe a multi-generational concept of the tribe in both written and spoken form. A series of families are reported to have occupied the caves over time, but it is not known if this is indicative of an actual physical family line. It is known that the tribe holds the concept of clan and succession, but how the people came to hold these beliefs is unknown.

In order to erase a timeline, it can cause several devastating effects.

Description: D-4586 was seemingly conscious at the time of SCP-3550-2's appearance. D-4586's head was now slightly removed from SCP-3550-2, and reports indicate that D-4586 was able to speak and understand basic commands. Upon D-4586's death, liquid metal infused with acid was found on his head.

SCP-3550 is an indestructible black cylinder measuring 12,605.86 km. SCP-3550 intersects the Earth across several hundred parallel realities, and thousands of parallel universes, completely overlaying the United States. There is no defined history within SCP-3550 and it has never yet had a human presence due to the fact that SCP-3550 does not manifest within human form. The universe in which SCP-3550 exists is known as the Tallest Mountain World, which has grown over 100 km higher than its previous home planet. Every sentient living thing in this universe has directly interacted with SCP-3550, which is what creates the various alternate universes.

SCP-3550 seems to act as a kind of distribution point for alternate realities. Think of it as a public library for alternate universes. When a life form within an SCP-3550 universe (hereafter called a colonist) leaves this world for another universe they essentially 'borrow' the life form from the current universe. Colonists will go from one reality to the next along the Thin Plane of Reality until they encounter an alternate reality that they have never visited before. Once a colonist encounters the new reality, they will instantly think back to the first time they entered it, remembering how many times they physically interacted with the Tallest Mountain World.

Some very notable colonist genocides have been instigated due to their false memories of the lost civilizations they have encountered within SCP-3550.

Events established

The discovery of SCP-2498-A-255 and initial testing of the object were made between ████ and ████ July. While in Portmarnock, Ireland, Containment Officer McKim discovered that one of two cylinder-shaped objects in storage at the Yanktonar district Museum had appeared overnight. McKim scanned the object for any reason to explain its anomalous properties, but failed to find anything. A researcher from a nearby station reported a significant amount of traffic heading towards the Museum, and a spike in the city's number of phone calls to emergency services shortly thereafter, identified the object as a substitute for their deceased funeral services for Kim Wallace's wife.

A nearby Air Corps AeroFabricator was brought in to reconfigure the object, which consisted of a number of aluminum cylinders in various states of disassembly.

On █/██/████, Portmarnock was hit by the greatest rainfall event ever recorded in Ireland. In an area in which it is known to rain on a daily basis, over 110mm of rainfall was recorded, in the space of an hour. Given this erratic nature of rainfall events, the Metropolitan Council formed a "Emergency Council" in order to coordinate their response to the rain event. On █/██/████, Department of Public Safety agents in Portmarnock have been spotted on signs along the city's avenues to "impersonate road workers".

Due to this state of unfathomable and inexplicable abnormal occurrences, Mobile Task Force Delta-5 ("Mishaps, Addicts, Mayhem, Monsters") was dispatched to Portmarnock. A search and rescue operation was commenced to attempt to recover the parts of the object that were previously immersed in water, after having failed to locate the original cylinder-shaped object. On █/██/████, the report of a suitcase containing cash and a personal effects card of one of the agents, ████████, on Portmarnock's main street led the Task Force to their final destination - a duplex apartment on ​​Priory Street, situated next to Portmarnock's signboard reading "Bendigo Hotel, Best Hotel. Best Night Life". The Task Force discovered that the apartment contained the remains of an old, elderly man who had been kept alive by ████████. The corpse was described as showing frequent infrequent rambling, in either a disheveled state or with a complete lack of articulated facial features. The Mortician had maintained the body in a coffin for several years, which had since rusted from the concentrated radiation of the Cylinder's interior, rather than be removed from the prison, as the society did not want to put out the Mortician's house to be replaced by someone else's.

Authorities here in the Emerald City closed down all major roads around Portmarnock, and set up a number of perimeter barricades around the area for the duration of the event.

WARNING: Due to the effect that the velocity of the cylinder is present on all living organisms, use extreme caution should you attempt to ascend the cylinder. SCP-2498-A-255 proceeds to levitate a 3 metre high door of the cylinder for 20 minutes before immediately locking. Moving closer to the door will result in SCP-2498-A-255 loosening the locks, falling through the sky in a manner consistent with a skydiver.

Tests using D-Class personnel revealed one of the bottom sections of the cylinder to have an area of significant gravity, 3.4 times greater than Earth, the other aspect of SCP-2498-A-255 being transparent. The chamber however appears to be continuously moving, in accordance with standard levitation. Researchers have theorised that the interior of the chamber appears to be oriented in reverse at this point in time.

Workers in the vicinity of the cylinder confirmed that individuals were attempting to awaken as soon as possible, but without apparent success.

At 28°N, 27°E the door breaks the surface, allowing a sample of organisms to slowly emerge from the cylinder. Mentioned are a population of Anomalous Ooze-Rat (AI-R), who wake in an abnormal manner, followed by an eight metre long larval stage, and a pupal stage, each in an anomalous state, with holes in their skin corresponding to the holes in the cylinder's interior. Research into these organisms is ongoing. SCP-2498-A-255 subsequently returns to the surface.

Most noticeable is the presence of a single black cylinder, measuring 30.13cm in diameter. The Cylinder was previously believed to have consisted of two separate cylinders, one in Bendigo, Australia, and the other in the North Atlantic ocean (nearest to Fajã Grande, although this island is submerged in W-255). The surface of SCP-2498-A-255 is entirely covered in regular, precise symbols with a depth of exactly 1.15mm, of which there are 512 different types. All symbols always measure 5.13mm in width. 16 of these symbols refer to numbers, no other symbols have been decoded other than what appear to be punctuation symbols. Three red symbols separate the sheet, and appear to correspond to the tablet and its companion smartphones [highlighted in blue]. There are also 8 unidentified symbols on the right side of the sheet, which are accompanied by another tablet. It is believed these red symbols and the red tablet have no affiliation with each other and refer to an unidentified object. A total of 3+2+1+1+8=28 numbers are found along the sheet, and in total only 252 digits are present. Information: A peculiar phenomenon about the period between 12:00-12:01GMT within the context of SCP-2498, beginning at 09:34 UTC, which has been described as non-alternate history, wherever possible and harmless. Subject observed that SCP-2498-A-255 had diverged into the timeline of various countries, disappearing at 01:54 UTC (shown as 0:55 UTC) on 10/04/94, whereupon it is believed to have entered a new timeline: this included Portugal, Italy, Iceland, and Northern Europe, but was offset 1,000 years into the past and shifted the location of the Peacekeepers Fleet to 7,000 km to the south (see [highlighted in green]). Subject observed that with the alteration of the location of the Force, the Peacekeepers fleet is given additional ships, all of which are wearing the same paint scheme in accordance with the Peacekeepers fleet. All of this happened on 04/08/94. Subject observed that SCP-2498-A-255 was forced to move 10 km south of its previous position in a small tunnel, and the gate is visible on the eastern wall of the tunnel. Subject observed that SCP-2498-A-255 split into two separate variations, one trailing the second anomaly, and the other following after it. The composition of SCP-2498-A-255 is unknown, and every outer wall of the cylindrical mass is impenetrable to magnetic forces. The inner wall appears to be insulated from the Earth's mantle by extensive cracks of a statistically impossible thickness. Due to the extreme temperatures and pressures within the core, SCP-2498-A-255 behaves in an entirely stable manner. It has been observed that SCP-2498-A-255 is able to undergo either one or two phases of solidification at a time, which change the properties of its interior. The material of which the cylinder is composed is passed through the Earth's mantle through a gap in the mantle's crust measuring 230km below the Earth's surface, which is separated from the hole by a 3km layer of granules of Cinnabar calcium oxide, homogeneous, liquid, and magnetic. During this process SCP-2498-A-255's outermost layer, known as the "gap," undergoes a transformation from a differentiated layer of heterogeneous crystals composed of calcium, beryllium, and strontium aluminium silicates, to a 'parchment' composed of pure strontium, aluminium oxide, and oxygen. The impurity of the "parchment" is noted, and SCP-2498-A-255 is subsequently found to behave as it was before the shift, though it is hypothesised that this change occurs due to the softening of the structure of strontium as it transitions from bulk-phase to phase-transition material. This has apparently been observed during certain temperatures (30-60C) when the strontium does not show any signs of structural instability at these temperatures, so researchers hypothesise that atomic strontium behaves like an 'amorphous' cubic crystal in this state. SCP-2498-A-255 exhibits a largely stable and highly relativistic phase transformation for approximately four thousand years, after which it undergoes the first half of a second phase change. While the second half of this transition involves the transformation of the innermost layer of SCP-2498-A-255 from solid beryllium oxide into 'stone', this is not the transition from a soft 'parchment' to the solid state of stable carbonite which was observed in D████'s expedition in 2344, but rather a change in the conduction of heat within the structure of the solidified material. At present, this second phase, known as the "waxing" phase of SCP-2498-A-255, is the most dominant structure on the surface of SCP-2498-A-255. Testing performed on SCP-2498-A-255 has shown that it is a brittle material as a result of its steel-like composition, with very few cracks being observed. During the second phase of the second phase the core of SCP-2498-A-255 collapses, shattering into various pieces at a rate of approximately 5 per hour, of which approximately 7% are located in SCP-2498-A-255. During these collapses a rudimentary structure or 'fusion centre' (in other words, 'the nucleus') of supercooled beryllium and iron halides is formed, located roughly 6km below the surface of SCP-2498-A-255. The fusion centre contains a highly symmetrical block of iron a few kilometres in length, which is estimated to be approximately 1000 million years old. However, SCP-2498-A-255's anomalous properties do not cease after 23:00.

Testing with candles or mercury clocks has revealed that SCP-2498-A-255's properties are weaker at higher temperatures, requiring between 10 seconds and two minutes to reverse the effect of the candle's melting point. Likewise, temperature has not affected SCP-2498-A-255's ability to reset the clock if it has been off for a short period of time, though attempts have been made to relay a solar clock by its liquid metal casing. SCP-2498-A-255 cannot reverse time when it has been off for long periods of time, and the clock's time is not affected after a period of over an hour has passed. The only place where SCP-2498-A-255 does not have time reversal capabilities is when using the clock without its casing, so even the clock itself cannot be used to save or restore an area that has been out of daylight for more than a certain period of time. In this case, SCP-2498-A-255 will replace the clock with an identical one of the same day's times, and in some instances will add an additional hour to its time period to effect a perfect week. SCP-2498-A-255 exhibits this behavior for an indefinite period of time.

SCP-2498-A-255 displays its anomalous properties following approximately an hour of being exposed to the sun, however it does not proceed to restore the lost time in that hour. For this time, SCP-2498-A-255 has the ability to restore time by adding an hour to its clock. When this occurs, SCP-2498-A-255 will take an immediate, peaceful rest (from sun exposure) in the center of the water next to ████████████, located on the Guana Islands south of Papua New Guinea (see interview logs No.1). It then proceeds to absorb the sun's energy into its body. SCP-2498-A-255 fails to utilise this method and instead returns to SCP-2498-A. Whilst displaying active anomalous properties, SCP-2498-A-255 can be subject to anomalous effects from small quantities of sunlight up to 2400 lux. For example, a single experimental exposure of SCP-2498-A-255 at 0 lux resulted in all of its anomalous qualities manifesting at once, resulting in significant magnetic mutagenic effects.

Could you go into more detail with this concept? Thibodeau: Â I made the distinction between a (genetic) monoculture that replaces the social, and a feminism singularity that replaces the individual. It just makes more sense to say that neoliberalism is a feminine singularity. I suggest that the heart of a feminist singularity is a radicalised politics of solidarity. Â That’s why the current space in feminist politics today, between the feminists who are in the mainstream and those who are deeply committed to radical feminisms, needs to be re-imagined in a way that makes room for feminist singularities in a global zeitgeist of the multidimensional Singularity. Â In the feminism singularity, my argument is that women should resist the tendency of gender neutrality to render it passé. And when women retreat to a feminine singularity, those deeply committed to feminist politics need to seize the opportunity to push back. I describe, in the book, how feminism singularity gave women radical autonomy and that many women took advantage of this autonomy to pursue radical feminist politics, and in the process they jettisoned the social, economic, and political status quo that they enjoyed previously. Â It’s a model of the feminist singularity that I think that can be broadly applied. Â I think that if we, too, want to build a more inclusive world, then we need to struggle to reclaim our wholeness, those powers that were lost when we’ve abandoned our identities.

During the nineteenth century, people referred to the epoch of industrialism as ‘Neoliberal’. Under Margaret Thatcher, neoliberalism became known as ‘neoconservatism’. In the 1990s, neoliberalism was named ‘neo-liberalism’, which the present day would be described as neoliberalism with an A- or a G-grade rating. In the 2000s, neoliberalism was popularised as ‘post-neoliberalism’ and the former was renamed ‘post-capitalism’. More recently, the term ‘digital utopia’ has been popularised. But although the singularity is described as the closest thing we have to the Promethean dream, ‘end of history’, it is also sometimes described as a ‘hollow’ or ‘end of life’. We tend to see the singularity as a culmination in which technology will replace human labour and emancipate women and minorities.1 But although we associate the singularity with a distinctly feminist orientation, the intertwining of feminism with capitalism has not always been considered favorably. If it is progressive to imbue technology with human values, so too is it patriarchal to circumscribe women’s liberation to their unfettered use of such technology.2 Alternative feminist perspectives on the singularity have been proposed by the second wave of feminist thinkers of the 1960s and 1970s3–6 as well as the present-day theorists of cyberfeminism and cyborg feminism,4 who have closely related the liberation of women to the liberating powers of technology, which would be able to empower them to explore the world without restrictions. Hence, the concept of the singularity can also be connected to another feminist perspective – the ‘post-feminist singularity’. The term ‘post-feminist singularity’ is sometimes used to describe the dismantling of the belief in biology as a defining cornerstone of human identity.3 Whereas most of the construction of gender and sexual identity comes from biological traditions, feminists have begun to argue that human gender and sexual identity are created by sexual relationships between two people, and can therefore be changed in line with a new set of shared interests.3,4 Moreover, since gender is constructed in social terms, whereas biology is built from within, feminists in the second wave of feminism (a.k.a. the second wave of ‘equal rights for women’, a.k.a. second wave feminism) argued that it was difficult to conceive of gender as an inherent attribute of the human species, and that it was in fact socially constructed and constructed in opposition to the established patriarchal models. Could you go into more detail with this concept? Thibodeau: Â When neoliberalism liberates individuals and equalizes all differences, it simultaneously politicises and mystifies aspects of individual experience: race, gender, sexuality, age, poverty, disability, regional and geographical differences. This is the emergence of a more transhumanized age that is ideologically united by a certain kind of radical individualism - one that says it is OK to be me, to be a normal human being, to be queer, to be white, to be American, to be wealthy, and so on. I call this both the feminist singularity and the female singularity. The feminist singularity stands for a world in which individuals are liberated from the constraints of specific cultural identity and performed historical cultural practices. The female singularity is a world in which people from any past, present, or future culture are released from the miseries of having to reflect back to them who and what they are. Q: Where do you stand on the ‘gender binary’? You mention transgenderism once in your book, but what do you think about queer theory? Thibodeau: Â I would suggest that the idea of a ‘gender binary’ is the product of an ideology that presents gender as a biological construct while denying biological reality. I believe that gender is a social construct rather than a biological one. Like all such constructs, gender is reinforced through specific ‘feminine’ and ‘masculine’ behaviours: female ways of walking, for example, are not as natural as male ways of walking, and our home-life rituals and practices are based on male and female natural choices. This has important implications for gender dysphoria, which has arisen as a consequence of trans peoples being permanently exposed to a gender binary and therefore a social gender system. But the primary question is: what is gender and how can it be understood and respected in our own time? Q: You follow Ayyo Ntachi, a freelance writer who talks about the Singularity and Luddism, and suggests that we get away from the idea of multiple genders. Are you concerned about the Singularity? Thibodeau: Â I am aware of transhumanism and the gender binary debate, but I think both have interesting intersections. I’ve spent time with transhumanists, and I often wonder what their conception of gender would be if they had children. I know that most trans people are as interested in biological and cultural conceptions of gender as they are in trans personhood; and that some trans people who go on to have biological children would disagree with the idea that gender is a natural, or at least fixed, phenomenon. The intersection of transhumanism and queer theory is also interesting because it suggests a change in perspective about the fluidity of gender as a process rather than an outcome, which in turn is the origin of the female singularity - a vision of gender that liberates us from being constrained by our corporeal materiality. Transgender people often say that gender is a ‘social construction’, but the term ‘gender’ is so laden with political meaning and implications, that we often seek to define it. Now that I think about it, I remember that in some of my feminist childhood religious studies texts, I had repeated references to the word ‘gender’ because it implied to me that a gender binary was a natural feature of the world. But it also reminded me of something I hadn’t realised: that as much as I loved to think of Christianity as a precise logical system

Thibodeau: Â Transhumanism has become increasingly important for groups such as the Deep State, the Bilderberg Group, the Council on Foreign Relations, but it is not something limited to powerful individuals or corporations. Traditionally feminist spaces have been marginalized for their overly critical viewpoints, which often times made them more theoretical than political. Transhumanism is a movement which aims to build a future in which human frailty and feelings of a lost, a terrified human self are overcome. It is most fitting that feminist transhumanists should be at the forefront of this trend. Q: You write about how neoliberalism is not just about liberal freedoms, but instead constitutes a sexualized ideology which enables the advances of science through the use of dehumanisation, like replicating human beings, thus removing all sense of difference. What is transhumanism most about? Thibodeau: Â Transhumanism is a practice of culture that supports the achievement of technological control over nature. Technological control over nature is the second most important means of realizing neoliberalism – through engineering a Perfect Garden, which in this respect is not just a garden, but a world that is engineered to desire and promote a similar technology. The first most important means of realizing neoliberalism is to construct the perfect world through the direct or indirect presence of neoliberal management. On this point, feminist transhumanists are interested in this, but more specifically focused on the way neoliberalism actually systematically transgresses fundamental democratic conceptions of freedom. Q: What are some ways in which you see this principle of neoliberal restructuring taking its toll on feminist movements? Thibodeau: Â Gender is actually more pervasive in neoliberalism than feminist politics are generally known to acknowledge. Because neoliberalism requires the feminist politics of home life, it actually reconfigures the role of women in politics. Its legitimacy is reinforced through the internet, especially websites such as Feministing and Jezebel. It’s not just the rights that are at stake but the fact that the concept is capable of being socially constructed on any given social platform. Even the concept of ‘the feminist singularity’ is a device which enables the construction of a feminist singularity on any social platform and which allows the proletariat to claim it as a ‘place’ of their own. What remains is the gender postmodernist ‘dissensus’, the banality of the orgy of fomentation. Q: You write about the feminist singularity as a potential approach that could connect the distant future with the daily reality. What kind of social organisation can conceivably understand and transform this meaning? Thibodeau: Â Several strands of philosophical thought have contributed to this thought within feminist theory. One strand is the demand for new conceptions of nature, which is important in seeing the impact of industrial and environmental change on our lives as well as our relations with the planet. Deep ecology believes that change can come by acknowledging the influence of the human and the natural on each other. Gaia theory is another major strand which recognises the social fabric in which our whole civilisation is built and in which we live and function. Thibodeau:  [ ] “The book is an investigation into the ways in which neoliberal and neoliberalism represent different features of a larger network of cultural productions and social experiences. The title of the book is taken from a quote by Quentin Meillassoux, which I took from his book ‘Zeros and Ones’ (1997). The hypertrajectory is a concept used by philosopher David Gordon in his recent essay ‘Narratives of Transcendence: A Feminist Take on Nietzsche’ (2015). The hypertrajectory path, defined in terms of a circular narrative trajectory, is characterized by a specific narrative trajectory with a beginning, middle and end which is held constant but then follows different directions. The human narrative trajectory is governed by some version of patriarchal authority and has been designed to contribute to classifying an individual as either masculine or feminine, or as an individual signifier (here masculine). I read the hypertrajectory as a ‘feminist singularity’ because it comes from the site of feminist analysis and analysis is also situated in the everyday experience of women. It is an understanding which demonstrates the strength of feminist critique of patriarchy by showing its effect upon femininity. Thus, the patriarchy, being a cultural construct, can be both scrutinised and countered. I trace the conceptual history of a feminist singularity that emerges around the time of the first women’s liberation movement in the 1960s and 1970s and carries on in similar fashion in the 21st century. The trend dates back to the apotheosis of feminism at the turn of the 20th century. Feminism is a cultural construct that emerged out of the feminist critique of patriarchy through the work of Shulamith Firestone (1950). Through this feminism emerged a cultural phenomenon which I call The Woman Question and which is the sovereign relation between the human female and the global social internet of women, lesbians, transwomen, and indeed all women. The hypertrajectory is a discursive curve whose ends and curves are built upon these rules of feminist discourse.”[16]                                                                         �

Thibodeau: Â I’m mostly trying to trace the phenomenon of neoliberalism outwards from its original stronghold in the United States, and say what made the notion of the ‘masculine hypertrajectory’ such a toxic conceit of neoliberalism was the violence it perpetrated upon women. I think that the initial inception of neoliberalism was predicated upon the strength and power of women. Neoliberalism, as a moment in time, tried to delegitimise women in the public sphere, in politics, the media, and religion. That’s what the corruption of Christendom was about, the corruption of the Catholic Church. Religious authoritarianism in that period was the moment that neoliberalism came into place and started allowing the rise of some of the most parasitic forms of power. Of course, this only happened in the West because there were certain global signs that you could see, like the sexual revolution, that indicated that there was something different about the way we were moving, politically, religiously, and psychologically. After that, it was a case of continuing to build on the accumulated knowledge of our society, what really bound us together in the Anglo-American world, to the extent that neo-liberalism is a global phenomenon. Now, what this means is that when you travel through eastern and western Asia, you have to recognise the sheer enormity of power and money behind neoliberalism. On a personal level, I think that in the west we are capable of realising that we are living in a ‘feminist singularity’, and feel incredibly sad about this, I’ve been going to India since I was a teenager, and one of the women in this book says, ‘well, I feel so much more stressed out here because we have this American imperium’. But in the east, the whole set-up is very different, they are very aware that, in a lot of ways, the world was won by women. Women won the space to work at their fullest, women won the space to determine their own destinies, women won the right to be free to live the lives that they find most appropriate, not to take care of their families or people. The experience of western women is often that they have had to work more than men, but in China, India, or a lot of sub-Saharan Africa, you never see them go into paid employment. These societies were not going to be overly interested in westernised women, that would be too much for them, they are only going to be interested in the men who have power. So the multicultural dominance of global capitalism may not be here to stay, as governments have a certain degree of control, but cultures are their own country in their own space, and when you take it to a global level, there is very little difference in some countries, or cultures between a proper masculinised state, and someone who believes in the freedom of women. So that is what drives me forward in this chapter in the book, I think it’s interesting to see how much woman has influenced the development of economics, or have influenced the definition of what is economic development. That’s the context I find, as a racial and gender theorist, when we get to the feminist singularity it is an ideal opportunity to put female empathy into the gene pool. What happens is that with the rise of a global gender paradigm, western women are able to have a lot more opportunities to connect to people, to learn, to move

Thibodeau: _______ neoliberalism, in its Apotheosis sense, refers to a sequence of events in which certain systems of inequity and power we have today have been fundamentally transformed. In keeping with the subtitle of my book, Hypertrajectory, I refer to this as a feminist singularity. This happens when a series of important structural conditions for power and inequality are no longer present, precisely because the neoliberal world system has been so thoroughly stripped of their power and command. First, systemic sexism (discussed elsewhere in the book) has been greatly weakened, weakened by a move to gender consciousness that coincides with a radical restructuring of economic power, as witnessed through a further radical paradigm shift in this direction begun decades ago and continued to intensify post-feminist. Second, problems that have plagued communities of colour (domestication, the erosion of black-owned businesses, the devaluation of woman, queer and trans people and language) have been erased, and finally, the neoliberal environmental catastrophe has locked many of us out of a bright future. A breakdown of the rational, state-based systems we rely on is therefore necessarily to be expected. In my view, this feminist singularity creates the best possibility of us all co-existing in a more loving, egalitarian, and harmonious world. Q: Is there any gender diversity in the occult? Many existing occult traditions have gender diversity, yet this is often not visible to practitioners. At what point do gender and sexual minorities get a place of their own? Thibodeau: _______ The all-encompassing term ‘occult’ can help us understand the diverse ways that gender and sexuality intersect in our world. Subversive gender and sexuality within such a range can be very difficult to examine (using only western language) and, in my view, can be reclaimed by those among us who are comfortable with them. The term ‘occult’ is universal enough to represent an alternative space of social responsibility, possibility, and diversity. Q: Is there a difference between the occult and other types of religion? Thibodeau: _______ Yes, there is. But it is a distinction that is not one with a clear-cut difference or a clear set of boundaries that are in themselves binary. Occult, of course, is pluralized. Yet, the plurality of different strands within the mainstream (popular, academic, occult, radical) does not mean that they cannot stand on their own (or together) as a whole. Traditional religions, by their very nature, are miasmatic and pluralistic (e.g. Christianity and Islam) and I do not see that this miasma or plurality provides an unproblematic space within which to experiment. The occult is very much an ‘experiment’ within traditional faith, and this is what is radical about it. But when we try to start from our foundations and change those foundations we are introducing a certain tension or irony into the space. And when we drop out the very basis of the community (rituals, initiations, forms of social organisation, ‘aesthetic rituals’, etc.) we are very often met with resistance by those who rely on them, the same way queer and trans people have been met when they try to erase the pathologies of fundamentalist religion from mainstream narrative. Rhode Island State University offers a beautiful campus across the bay in Providence. The fastest ferry from Providence to Boston is a 21-minute ride across the Atlantic Ocean and it costs $19.98. A 16-year-old boy named Paul Del Gazzarini did something quite unique with the early carpenters and plumbers who built the now famous Roman Theatre on Hay Street. He gave their tools away to the public. Today a physical marker stands on a free plaque reading: 'This is a Free Gift From the Roman Theatre Plumbers of Middlebury'. Out in the mountains, workers collect fresh snow for the power in their trucks. The slopes that rise to the top of the Rhode Island mountain range are also an area you should try to explore. These mountains are called Bald Mountain, New Hampshire, and Mount Scott, the beginning of state line road and Monticello Park. There are many hikes that require steep terrain, so plan ahead and stop often to check on the progress of your trek. There are free hiking trails in many national parks such as the parks in Acadia and Mount Greylock as well as the public park area in Casco Bay State Park. Also stop at various historical and cultural landmarks on the way to New England, in celebration of the 4th of July. This is the day long holiday marking the arrival of American settlers in New England.

A suspected gunman escaped a Walmart in Texas after opening fire Monday evening, killing one man and wounding two others before officers returned fire, according to a sheriff's department. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a tweet that authorities were investigating an active shooter situation at a Dallas store at around 8 p.m.

Police, along with sheriff's deputies and SWAT teams, responded to a call about an armed man in the store, said Jim Harrelson, a spokesman for the sheriff's department.

The county library sent the DLC file containing my ideas to Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick's legislative coordinator in Brockton. She phoned me first to let me know the DLC file was out. She told me the plaque was coming and that she was contacting other leaders in the legislature.

The Governor's aide was very helpful. I sent her my ideas for the marker, some links to postcards, an account of the week I took me on board the museum's "Land on the Water" tour, and the link to my Lisbon Biennale blog. She recommended I submit and photos of the streetscape of Brockton and Newmarket to the city manager's office and the representative of the governor's office in Newmarket. No further involvement occurred. There is some internal conflict in the city between pro-Brockton interests and supporters of the less-than-populated section of the city I prefer to call City of the People's Land. I do think, however, that a marker on the Boston and Cambridge border in Brockton Bay would help draw visitors back to the area by following Harbor Road that passes the five historic civil engineering oddities that make up the town's history.

A group of bands of troupers calling themselves Men of Maumee[1] would descend on the town of Brockton with daily kayaking trips in the 17th century, along with a social group called The Pack on a regular basis for a century, and then nearly every year thereafter.[2]

The oldest village within the modern city limits, Brockton, was founded on a sand bar and was used for divers' trading. Since it was close to the Verape islands (smaller than the Isle of Shoals, and hence difficult to reach), the salt trade took a long time to establish and moved west.[3] The first great commercial vessel to be built was Henry Wood's Gascoyne of 1618. It was named after Henry Wood, the English surgeon of the 3rd Duke of Newcastle, who gave land on that island to Sir Walter Ralegh in memory of his mother, Betty Gray Wood.[4]

Mid-19th century Brockton was a bustling boom town. During this time its critical importance to the salt industry led to John D. Rockefeller's ownership of a large block of properties in the city.[4] The Brockton salt and sulfur Company gave rise to warehouses, factories, and shipyards on the docks.[5]

Brockton was the site of a major influenza epidemic in 1917 and 1918 that killed close to 2,000 people and nearly bankrupted the city. Most houses, churches, and schools were destroyed.[6] In the mid-1920s, the Victor Shipyard, located near the lake, was relocated to Eastport, Maine, but seven years later it returned to Brockton, thanks to protective measures enacted by the city government. The Brockton Shipyard opened its doors again in 1946 and three years later, it produced Lake Champlain-bound ships for Union Pacific, the largest-capacity cargo shipyard in the world at the time.[7]

Brockton itself was subject to regular bombings during World War II. The city was bombed several times in the 1950s and again in 1969 by the Weather Underground.[8]

In the 1950s, the American Legion, then in its third consecutive year being denied permission to sell its venerable tank at the nearby Lake Champlain Naval Depot, and unable to obtain a license to manufacture shells at its own plant in nearby Burlington, New York, located on the Verape Islands, began shipping its own shells to Brockton at discount prices to supply the munitions shops there.[9] In the 1960s and 1970s, many families moved from Brockton into the Verape Islands, where the former Brockton meatpacking plant is still in operation.

Brockton is located at (41.351288, −73.517189).[10] The city sits in an area that is distinct from surrounding towns, the Salt Pond and Sand Hill (like nearby Wellfleet, New York and North Conway, Massachusetts) in Massachusetts. Its location (west of the spring running between hills) and proximity to major highways (Mass. 95, Route 82, and Route 118) is the reason for the term "Brockton Bay." Brockton is bordered by the North Shore of New Hampshire to the south, the Penobscot River to the west, Maine to the east, and New Brunswick (Canada) to the north and south. It is connected to both Acadia National Park and the Penobscot National Forest by New Brunswick Transit, New Brunswick's passenger rail service.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 25.3 square miles (66 km2), of which 25.2 square miles (66 km2) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) (0.94%) is water.

A spokesman for the Russian military said the Russian fighter jet had met with the U.S. plane, followed it within a 15-mile (24 km) radius and passed it within 15 feet (4 meters) in the air, but returned safely back to Russian territory.

Russia lodged a formal complaint and demanded an explanation from the U.S. military about why it had violated Russian air space, spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said.

He said NATO had also conducted anti-drug operations in similar circumstances in the past.

Konashenkov said that during Monday’s operation in the region of Abkhazia, three Ukrainian paramilitary units in camouflage uniforms were firing rockets at two trucks with protected guns and ammunition.

U.S. forces confirmed that a crew from the multinational anti-drug operation in Abkhazia, who were in a tanker aircraft, were on the ground firing rounds on the smugglers.

A Russian military helicopter had then been dispatched to intercept the U.S. plane, Konashenkov said. The U.S. pilot was safe and flight safety “regarded as good,” according to a Pentagon statement.

The Russian border guards service said in a statement that the U.S. fighter was involved in a drug raid just outside Russia’s Kaliningrad region.

Kaliningrad is sandwiched between Poland and Lithuania and has been the scene of several border disputes with other NATO members.

Russian law enforcement officials could not be reached for comment.

One resident of the Abkhaz village of Milap said the U.S. plane flew past just outside the village, about 6 miles (10 km) from the border with Russia.

He said Russia’s Federal Migration Service had placed men in military vehicles on the border with Abkhazia to try to ward off Americans trying to enter Russia.

“I saw this plane on the ground and as it was heading toward Russia, I heard the plane open fire with its cannons,” said the resident, who declined to give his name.

“The border guards were then chasing the Americans off,” he said.

Russian officials have previously pressed NATO for greater defense cooperation with Russia.

In March, Moscow criticized NATO’s missile defense plans in Europe as encroaching on Russia’s sphere of influence, at a time when the Russian forces were involved in counterinsurgency campaigns in Chechnya and South Ossetia.

Konashenkov said on Sunday that a small NATO anti-missile system, designed to protect against missiles launched from Iran, was testing a prototype radar in the Baltic Sea.

The Baltic Sea is only 8 miles (13 km) wide and would have a limited effect on the effective defense of a target within the Soviet Union’s western flank.

The tests were happening on the same day as NATO sent a high-profile delegation to Moscow. It included defence ministers and naval and air commanders from several countries.

The antecedents of the Brockton were in neighboring Salem, Massachusetts in the early 16th century. These settlers with the encouragement of New England Governor Thomas Hooker founded a town on land they had acquired under the 1608 Plymouth Plantation[4] at the confluence of the Thuringian and Berkshire river valleys.[5]

As early as 1609, the town of Brockton was attracting clergymen from neighboring Massachusetts Bay Colony and many Catholic immigrants. They built churches, including St. Vincent de Paul in 1617 and St. Mary's in 1633.[5]

Brockton was first captured by the French in the 1670s. It was taken by the British in the 1680s, and in the 1780s it was largely destroyed by the British, with destruction of Brockton churches and many houses. Longstanding blacksmithing claims to ownership run at least as far back as 1639, and industrial interest in the area goes back at least as far as the 1790s.[5]

The city has been defined by its military history. In the American Revolutionary War, the Brockton area, generally (but not exclusively) under the jurisdiction of Cambridge Bay, was an important base for British and Loyalist forces that received relatively little attention from General Washington as compared to the major military commands centered around New York and New Jersey, even though they had similar strategic objectives and dealt with similar enemy leaders. This may have been a result of lack of familiarity of Brockton to the Continental Army commanders.

By 1783, the British controlled Brockton and Arlington.[6] At some point, the Fort Sackville was built. Many historians believe it was designed to defend Boston against the impending British attack, with the Boston-bound Patriot troops as an expendable labor force.[7] The fort was briefly taken and captured by the British in 1786.[8] A series of smaller minor land battles ensued during the spring of 1787, while most of the Patriot leaders in the area hunkered down in the then-under siege-cell at the Back Bay/Northeastern Neighborhood.[8] By mid-April 1787, the primary British blockaded system of communications and military activity in the region failed to do the job of isolating the area from the rest of British-occupied Boston, and Patriot resistance stiffened. The British occupation of Boston ended only as a result of the Siege of Boston in 1789. By then, the neighborhood at Arlington Beach, which was one of the most important points of communication of the border that remained under American control, was ceded to Massachusetts and renamed The Back Bay.[8]

The city was named for Captain Alexander Brockton who explored the area in 1745. He founded the first store in Brockton and a tavern in 1757.[8]

Brockton is known for its famous—and sometimes somewhat cheesy—picturesque architecture. The tall turrets of the pre-Civil War era continue to form a distinctive style. Nearby, at Norwood & Brockton Streets, there is a large Victorian building called "Boston House".

Brockton had two gambling establishments, Stinson's, founded by William Stinson, and the Star Grill. Both were taken over by the Houghton Brothers in the 1950s. Since the 1960s Stinson's has primarily been in an area of the Back Bay next to the Boston Art Museum, while the Star Grill was on Dartmouth Street. The moves drew the ire of Washington, which said it “believes that an agreement to revise the U.S.-Japan Security Treaty is incompatible with Japan’s constitution and is an obstacle to peace in the region.”

Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and other government ministers met with Abe, their country’s new leader, Monday in a closed-door session. The ministers met the next day in Washington for a meeting of a trilateral summit between the U.S., Japan and South Korea.

Shortly after the Tokyo meeting, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Yukio Edano said a statement about the summit would be made available in time, according to Japanese media reports. But after the announcement Kishida said the release of the statement was delayed until later because of procedural reasons.

To prevent Kishida from saying more about the session and Abe’s remarks, Foreign Ministry spokesman Yasuhisa Kawamura said, “at this stage of the negotiations we would rather not announce any details.”

The Japanese government said Friday it would release a separate, day-and-a-half-long statement on the meeting, which would include Abe’s broad discussions on security, diplomatic relations and Japanese-Chinese relations.

South Korea, whose foreign ministry spokesman Cho June-hyuck said he had “no information on the issue,” had already appeared to follow the Japanese decision, although technically the statement was still a Japanese document, Seoul’s Yonhap news agency reported.

The statements of the two Japanese ministers would have been instrumental in keeping Japan’s relationship with other Asian countries in good odor, especially the United States. Obama plans to visit Japan in the fall and needs to win over Japan’s leaders to complete the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership — a multilateral free trade agreement with Pacific Rim countries. A strong statement from Japan would have put a thumb on the scale for the deal.

Kishida’s visit from the start to the end of the summit raised important questions as to his government’s approach to China.

When Abe visited Washington last month to seek Washington’s support for an amendment to the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty, it was as if the bilateral relationship had been clinched in over 30 years. Japan and China have been expanding their ties since Abe’s election in 2012.

But analysts say the “China factor” in the meeting is now no longer top of the ministers’ agenda and may even have emerged as a sore point.

Satoru Tanaka, an Asia expert at the Meiji University think tank, said Tuesday, “the participation of China’s Foreign Minister is not going to be ignored.” He added that the Japanese cabinet has lost its capabilities to gain reliable bilateral information and communications, and now feels constrained by the complexity of the negotiations.

Since China is insisting on the revision of the alliance treaty, Tokyo is faced with a choice to tread carefully in the talks or terminate the meeting altogether, Tanaka said.

Kawamura at the Foreign Ministry did not return a call from The Japan Times seeking comment on the outcome of the Tuesday cabinet meeting. Kishida’s spokesperson said the ministry will provide additional information about the meeting as soon as possible.
