  1. Inspired by Project X Zone, a series of turn-based strategy role-playing games on the Nintendo 3DS that act as crossovers between different IPs owned by multiple video game publishers: Bandai Namco, Capcom, Sega, and in the case of the second installment, Nintendo.
  2.
  3. (Gameplay)
  4.
  5. Project X Zone functions as a turn-based strategy role-playing game akin to titles in other series such as Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics. Levels are split into different chapters, each with its own grid-based map, player objective, and specific storyline events. The player can have his or her own characters, known as “units,” move around this map, interact with objects on the field such as treasure chests and item-containing breakables, activate different skills to strengthen his or her units’ stats, and participate in battles against the enemy faction’s own units. Each unit takes turns performing actions on the map until the player reaches the level’s win or loss conditions.
  6.
  7. In Project X Zone, each player unit is split into two types: Pair Units and Solo Units.
  8.
  9. - Each Pair Unit consists of two characters, whether they be characters from the same franchise e.g. Mega Man X and Zero from Mega Man X or characters from different franchises e.g. Chun-Li from Street Fighter and Ling Xiaoyu from Tekken. These units can be controlled fully in battle, being able to move around the map and interact with other units or different objects. In battle, each Pair Unit has a selection of different attacks that can be used to damage enemies, but these attacks will also knock enemies around the battle arena. Like how combos work in a fighting game, the player must chain attacks together and keep the enemy juggled to maximize a Pair Unit's damage. Additionally, each Pair Units possesses a unique Special Attack and Multi Attack — powerful attacks learned during the game that inflict large damage to one enemy or multiple enemies at once.
  10.
  11. - Each Solo Unit consists of only one character. Once-per-battle, a Solo Unit assigned to a Pair Unit can be summoned to perform a solo attack, even while during a Pair Unit’s own attack. If a Pair Unit on standby is near an attacking Pair Unit, it can be summoned to perform a support attack during the other Pair Unit’s turn.
