  1. Second, I argue that the school should change its tradition of having valedictorians give the speech at graduation. I understand that this is a tradition, however I strongly believe that such a tradition implicitly contributes to the image of the highest grades being the goal, something to be idolized. Similar to what I said above, how would students feel if the students who were admitted to top colleges automatically gave the graduation speech? Furthermore, regarding the actual meaning of a 4, should salutatorians, with 3., and then students with 3. be allowed to give the speech as well? Instead I believe that there should be five or six students would best represent the Islander Motto to be chosen to give the speech. I would propose a nomination process by the students-not simply voting-to choose the speakers. Students should write an explanation for how their chosen students embody the Islander Motto. This process, I believe, will be more genuine and will reflect the diversity of the student body. third, I would request that the names of the valedictorians/4 students not be announced, and that each student be recognized individually. This would have two purposes, I believe. First, it would possibly prevent (or make it harder) for the students to try and nominate the original valedictorians to br the spekers again (something that I believe could definitely happem). Second, the success of each psrticular student is velebrated. Each student can then choose their own method of expressing their success. The key point here is that the school does not decide what constitutrs success-that is up to tje student. This I hope ultimately promotes equity and inclusiom of differemt backgroumds and successed in the school community, eith an overall positive effect.
