PokeBim Ch35- In A Funk

Mordred woke up with a groan, she wasn’t sleeping in her own bed, but Leo’s, the shirtless man next to her proof of that. She couldn’t help but sigh a bit as she lied there, sex with Leo was always good but this time it had been much more…just okay, than she was used to, it wasn’t that it was bad it was more like he just wasn’t that into it.

The gang was still in Ballonlea but was planning to leave soon. Mordred got herself out of bed and headed to take a quick shower before getting dressed and going into the two. As she wandered around the silent sleepy forest town, she came across Skyla chatting with Opal.

“Hey you two.” She said walking over.

“Oh, look who finally got out of bed.” Skyla laughed.

“MRRGRR.” Mordred grumbled running her fingers through her ratty bedhead hair.

“You must take more pride in your appearance darling, especially if you wish to be a contest star.” Opal smiled.

“Whatever.” Mordred mumbled “We heading to the next town today or what, I’m getting sick of this fairy forest it’s…annoying.”

“Is Leo ready to go yet?” Skyla asked.

“I don’t know but I’m sick of waiting for him.” Mordred growled.

“Having issues?” Opal asked.

“Ever since Leo lost to you, he’s been in a funk.” Skyla asked “He’s just not himself.”

“I see I’ve seen this happen before.” Opal said “most snap out of it after a bit but some, well they just stay stuck in place and never progress forward.”

“You caused this tell us how to fix it.” Mordred demanded.

“Have some manners young lady.” The older woman sighed “There is no one magic fix for something like this, though from experience there is one thing that tends to push young men back to reality.”

“Hmm?”

“There one person in this world most men would do anything for, and it’s not their true love.” Opal chuckled.

“I’ve got an idea!” Skyla snapped her fingers “Let’s go to the Pokemon Center.”

Leo was lying around in the room he was in, he knew that the loss wasn’t entirely his fault he knew that but it had made it painfully clear how under prepared he was, he had a partner that he needed to be able to keep up with a growing power curve while also being able to be more effective in battle, he needed strategy, strength and skill.

A knock on the door roused him from his thoughts and he answered it.

“Hey there big guy.” Skyla smiled “Phone call for ya.”

“Oh thanks.” Leo took her “Who is it?”

“You’ll see.”

Skyla handed him her phone and closed the door, Leo looked down and saw a face on the video call.

“Mom?” he gasped.

Lenora’s image was on the screen, the busty black woman giving both a calm yet disappointed look.

“You never call me anymore.” She pouted childishly “Here I am getting more calls from your traveling party than you.”

“What no it’s not like that.” He said “I’ve just been busy.”

“You’re never too busy to call your mother.” She said.

“How are things back home?” Leo asked “How’s dad?”

“Oh, everything is fine.” She shrugged “Dad’s working hard on his research as usual you know him; I swear he thinks those books will just get up and run away or something.”

The comment made Leo chuckle a bit.

“Anyway, I heard you’re in Ballonlea, seems like you’ve made it pretty far, got a few badges too.” Lenora commented.

Leo smiled “Yeah it’s not too bad, I couldn’t get the last badge here though.”

“So, they said, and now you’re acting all mopey.” She sighed “It’s pathetic!”

“Huh?!”

“You’re the son of a gym leader, you wanna be champion and after one lost you act like it’s all over, it’s pathetic!” she scolded him “You think I’ve never lost before, of course I have but you use those loses as fuel to train harder and get even stronger, so what if you lost.”

“Right.” Leo “Thanks Mom.”

“What else are mothers for.” She let out a hearty laugh “Anyway, if you’re serious about getting stronger maybe you should look into taking on some of the Training Trials.”

“Training Trials.”

“Ugh, I don’t get how the child of a Gym Leader and a Scholar could be so deaf to the culture and events of our society.” She sighed “Training Trials are special areas run be Trial Captains, they’re useful for training against certain types, conditions and situations as well as bonding with your Pokemon. They’re not really competitive but if you complete them, you’ll earn a Trial Token, and you can redeem those Tokens to challenge the Trial Kahuna herself, apparently this is a tradition that started in the Alolan Islands off the coast and spread to the mainland, I think there’s a Grass Type Training Trial not too far from the Glimwood Tangle, you should try it out you might learn something.”

“It would be a great way to improve for the next gym too.” Leo nodded.

“Now you’re getting it.” Lenora smirked with pride “I got a challenger here so I gotta run but don’t be a stranger and call more often, heck come home to visit when you pass through, you might actually stand a chance in battle against me.”

“Challenging you could be fun.” Leo smiled “Thanks for the call Mom.”

“Anytime dear.”

With his fire reignited Leo gathered his things, met up with Mordred and Skyla and got ready to hit the road once more, he had new challenged and goals ahead, but he was going to face them no matter the result.
