- Perceval, hearing the threat, turned his horse’s head about; and with thrusts of his spurs of steel he came galloping at Kay – who wasn’t riding slowly himself. Both knights meant business and clashed whole-heartedly. Kay struck with all his force, so hard that his lance smashed and shattered like bark; nor did Perceval hold back: he hit Kay just above the boss and sent him crashing on a rock, dislocating his shoulder and breaking his right arm between elbow and armpit like a stick of kindling – just as the fool had often foretold! The fool’s prediction had come true! Kay passed out with the pain, while his horse went prancing back to camp.
