- Hmm, I thought I'd reflect a little bit on a particular feat some of my characters manage to attain:
- Flight
- Different characters, with different abilities and skillsets, naturally have different ways to move-- and specifically maneuver in the air
- And with those different methods of 'flight', comes different perspectives and outlook on it
- Nakoma, for one, is just a human who feels pretty at peace with nature
- He doesn't exactly kno how he somehow manages to fly but he describes it as something natural, not even questioning it: " I'm swimming in the air! "
- If we had to get specific, it might be a result of ki or magical training, in his case
- Altan, Kiro and even Akio however have a very different way of accomplishing this feat
- The one thing they have in common is how they perceive flight: they are all perfectly aware that flying is not normal for non-winged creatures and that gravity keeps them from doing so
- Altan normally would propel himself in the air with his flame abilities-- like jets
- Though eventually, as he becomes more experienced and his flames stronger, he manages to fly without necessarily using 'jets' specifically
- Bear with me on this VERY sci-fi, fantasy and most likely unrealistic explanation
- Altan's goal is always to become stronger, and his sentient power (the All-Consuming Flame) itself wants to become potent enough to create a star
- At some point, his flames do become strong enough to generate the kind of energy a star emits, aswell as deform space around him and project his own gravitational force... uhh..
- And then uhh... blahblahfakescienceblahblah and he flies
- Akio (and Kiro, in any stories where he manifests powers), manage to fly as a feat of strength aswell-- but not through the use of any specific set of abilities: just their will to fly
- Altan, Kiro and Akio then perceive flight as the same thing: they see it as them physically 'defying gravity' constantly
- A slight distinction I could make here is that Altan talks of defying gravity in the physical sense, matter of factly-- as in defying the force of gravity
- Akio and Kiro view flight as a personal act of defiance towards a personified force that is Gravity, at times
- Other characters may do so through something similar
- Aries, for example, with her energy manipulation, may achieve flight with a method close to Altan's
- Some receive blessings from superior beings to fly-- like a fairies' blessing, or a deity of the sky's blessing, etc
- Vancroe would receive sacred weapons or armor that would allow him to do certain similar feats
- And some, like many of Nekura's incarnations, do it without logic or explanation-- such as many horror movie-like 'evil spirits
- Or some other Nekura incarnations, and Rikal and King would claim simply: " It is my right to be able to fly. The earth cannot tether me. "
- And in that case, they either have exceptional power and will, or a supposed divine right like many gods possess
- I think that's all I wanted to say
