1. (MechMarc was already promised a spot in this thread, but I will accept one other if asked)
2.
3. North Town, at night, was no less bustling and busy than in the day. The airlanes were still dominated by the various kinds of hovercraft that carried the citizens of the more upper-class part of Haven to and from their destinations. There were other similarities, too. Like the oppression of the lower and middle classes, and the constant crime, despite the boasts that it was the “cleanest” part of Haven.
4.
5. Above even the highest traffic lanes, high enough to be the same height as some of the smaller skyscrapers, a dark figure flew. It was man-shaped, so it was no craft, but it also bore wings, like a bird.
6.
7. Or a bat.
8.
9. The figure’s shadow flew across skyscrapers, giving it the appearance of being both near and far, as it grew larger and smaller. Hovering next to one of the tall buildings, hunched so close to it that it was practically touching the wall, was a two-man hovercraft; upon which sat two members of the Krimzon Guard, on a nightly patrol. Most of their job was really about finding those who spoke against the Baron’s rule, and putting them out of commission. It was rare that any actual crime was stopped by the KG, despite the constant reassurances by the oppressive government that the crime rate was at a constant fall.
10.
11. However, as if in a show of complete defiance of this tyrannical rule, the shadowy figure flew right past the patrol. The one in front fell back in surprise. The figure had been going so fast, it was hard to make out any distinct features other than the man-like shape and the wings. He elbowed his partner, who had been snoozing.
12.
13. “Did you see that?!”
14. _______________________________________
15.
16. “Help! Someone, please help me!”
17.
18. “Quiet!” A loud thump, the sound of a body hitting a wall. “We’ve heard you’ve been spotted going into meetings. Meetings of conspirators against the Baron.”
19.
20. “No! I didn’t do anything wrong, I swear!”
21.
22. “That sound like a lie to you?” One of the men clad in red armor looked to his compatriot, who nodded. “Me too. Looks like we’ll have to get you to confess. The hard way.”
23.
24. More terrified screams. “Please, stop! Don’t hurt me!”
25.
26. Whump!
27.
28. The two members of the Krimzon Guard turned to the sound, which had come from the direction of their third partner. Instead, they saw their compatriot on the ground, unconscious. There was a figure clad in black standing on top of him, evidently having jumped on him from quite a height. However, with how dark it was in the alley, it was hard to make out anything. The most they could tell about their attacker was the red symbol on his chest.
29.
30. A bat, wings spread.
31.
32. The mysterious figure waved to the guards, almost amicably.
33.
34. “Hi, I’m new around here, and I’m a little lost. Could you show me around?”
35.
36. Instead of answering, the remaining two conscious guards reached for their weapons, took aim at the man, and fired.
37.
38. However, the man moved with incredible speed, diving behind a nearby dumpster, which took the laser blasts. The temporary cover wouldn’t last long, though. The lasers were eating through it like a wet napkin. He would need to act quickly. Luckily, whoever the KG had been attacking was smart enough to flee. That gave him a lot more room to work. A small, bladed weapon appeared in his hand, a red light blinking in its center. Aiming carefully, he threw it out from behind the dumpster, its flight path curving towards the guards. However, it hit neither of them, and instead imbedded itself into the wall. The light on the weapon blinked more rapidly, and was now accompanied by a beeping sound. Soon, it exploded, taking a good portion of the wall with it.
39.
40. The mysterious attacker was safe behind the dumpster, but the two guards were left exposed to the explosion. Their armor protected them from the brunt of it, but they were still bowled over and out of the alley by the force of it.
41.
42. The quickly got up, and looked at each other. Was it a smart idea to take this person on, when he so obviously had advanced weaponry? Not even the rebels they had faced had this kind of tech, and explosive that was powerful enough to blow open a wall, yet small enough to be thrown. No, they decided it was not a smart idea, and ran off to find backup.
43.
44. Multiple times they looked behind them for any sign of the figure. There was none. Their flight led them to a ladder, which they quickly climbed to the top of a building. There was still no sign of their mysterious assailant. They had most assuredly lost him by now, in the maze of side streets and back alleys.
45.
46. They ran across the rooftop, knowing the base wasn’t far. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the figure appeared from the sky, and landed to stand right in front of them. How had he been able to follow them?! Could he fly?! Regardless, both of the guards retrieved their weapons, pointing them at their attacker-
47.
48. Only for their laser weapons to be knocked out of their hands by another thrown weapon, thankfully without an explosion this time. Their attacker leapt at one, tackling him to the ground and banging his helmeted head own on the rooftop. Hard. The Krimzon Guard lay unconscious, and the figure flipped off, landing in a crouch to face the second guard. The guard rushed his attacker, throwing punch after punch, all of which were easily dodged. After his last swing, the guard was too late to realize he had thrown himself forward too much, leaving the perfect opportunity for his attacker to counter with an incredibly strong punch, strong enough to knock the remaining guard across the roof, head ringing from the punch.
49.
50. “W… what are you?!” The guard asked, crawling away in fear. Oddly enough, he noticed, as his attacker approached, he seemed to be whispering to himself.
51.
52. “Can I say it? You know I’ve always wanted to say it.”
53.
54. Unheard by the guard, the reply his attacker got was short and stern. “No.”
55.
56. “Oh, come on. He’s giving me the perfect set-up.”
57.
58. Suddenly, before his attacker could give the final blow, a spotlight lighted up the man, showing him to be wearing a mask with pointed ‘ears’, a bodysuit with the same red symbol of the bat, and belt with disc-shaped buckle with a red button in the center.
59.
60. Many Krimzon Guards had landed on the rooftop, several more were above on hovercraft, one of which carried the spotlight.
61.
62. “I’m saying it.” The man whispered, before turning to face the Krimzon Guards.
63.
64. “I am vengeance! I am the night! I! Am! Batman!”
65.
66. ====
67.
68. (For Asagi, this is after her upcoming scrapbook "Yoshitsuna MK-II! Rise!")
69.
70. It seemed like conflict not only lied at the rooftops that same night, as the sounds of laser gunfire continued loudly near the alley.
71.
72. Two members of the KG were shooting non-stopping at what it seemed to be the rubble of a demolished building. to be precise, the two people that were using the destroyed architecture as cover.
73.
74. The head of a civilian, old looking, slowly peeked out once the two guards stopped their fire for a couple of seconds, only to be dragged back into hiding as soon as the lasers once again started.
75.
76. "Stay in cover, mister. I'll take care of them"-said the black haired girl who stood next to him.
77.
78. Asagi the Tragic Heroine just arrived at this world a few hours ago. Her curiosity of exploring the city soon took her to this area, where she noticed how the old man next to her was physically assaulted by the Krimzon Guard and accused of conspire against some Baron. It was a no brainer that the poor guy was innocent, and that the pair of guards were only abusing their authority for their sick entertainment, so she did what any hero would do and try to defend the innocent...which lead to this very moment.
79.
80. Asagi knew the lasers wouldn't cease until one of them moved out of the hiding spot, so after taking a deep breath and pulling her pair of handguns out of the holsters of her belt, she dashed out and opened fire upon the corrupted "policemen".
81.
82. Of course, due to their more advanced armor, her shots didn't do much damage, but they were able to sting them enough for her to get closer. Before one of the guards could react a kick was immediately delivered to his face. His partner wasted no time and aimed his weapon at the girl-"Tough luck, brat!"
83.
84. Asagi did the same and aimed one of her guns at the armed enemy, while the other pointed at the other who was just getting up from the cold concrete-"Those lil' toy guns of yours are not gonna work"-said the guard in full arrogance-"Put them down and rise your arms, and maybe we will go easy on you"
85.
86. As ordered, the black haired gal let her guns on the ground which made the pair smile under their masks. But said confidence soon turn to anger when they noticed how Asagi's expression was still of a devious smirk.
87.
88. In the blink of an eye, she revealed one last trick up her sleeve. Right out of her hammer-space inventory, came an enormous spiked ball of steel. Before any of the two could even question how that was possible, it was already lights out for them, as the ball hit them from the side and smashed them on a nearby wall.
89.
90. Proud of her victory, Asagi easily pulled the chain connected to the gigantic spiked ball and moved it back to her like if it were the lightest of weapons. After putting it back in her inventory, as well as picking her guns up, the elderly civilian finally came out of hiding, slowly at first-"I-I can't believe it!"
91.
92. He was full of gratitude-"Oh thank you so much, missy"-he continued to say. All Asagi could do was give a giggle-"Aw, it's nothing really".
93.
94. "Nonsense!"-he replied-"You saved me!"
95.
96. "Its just something heroes do, no need to thank me really"-she honestly said. Sure, ego boosting was always welcomed by her, but for once, she was just glad to see that the old man was alright.-And don't worry about these two. They'll probably stay unconscious after that. It will hurt like hell in the morning"
97.
98. After saying goodbye, the old man walked was on his way back home. Asagi just crossed her arms behind her head as she looked to the night sky-"I should have expected for each world to be even crazier. But that's how it always is, I guess..."
99.
100. ====
101.
102. Up above, the rooftop was alight with gunfire.
103.
104. The Batman leapt to the side as the shots came at him, where they impacted uselessly against the roof. He rolled as he landed, and came up in a crouch. He pointed his arms at two of the KG, and Batarangs attached to lines shot out, wrapping them up tight and forcing them to fall to the ground, struggling against their ultra-tight bonds.
105.
106. That was two down, but still many more to go.
107.
108. Batman rushed at another of his enemies who was trying to free one of the tied up men, grabbing him by the chest plate of his red armor, and delivering a swift punch to the face. While the Krimzon Guard was reeling, he grabbed the gun out of his grip, and snapped it in half.
109.
110. Another guard was trying to rush him from behind, but he was far too slow. Batman swiftly turned, ducked while grabbing the man, and spun, using the Krimzon Guard's momentum him to throw him across the roof and into two more, knocking all three to the floor of the roof.
111.
112. Suddenly, gunfire from above caught Batman by surprise. They were firing from their seat on one of the hovercraft's pointing a spotlight at him, making him an easier target. He should have anticipated that.
113.
114. "You should've anticipated that." The voice of Bruce Wayne, his mentor, said through his mask's communicator.
115.
116. "I know!" The Batman replied, running across the rooftop to get away from the gunfire. However, the edge was getting close. Soon, there would be nowhere left to run. Thinking quickly, Batman turned, and threw a Batarang, which spun towards the hovercraft. It hit the spotlight's glass, crashing through and into the bulb, taking out the light. He'd be harder to hit now.
117.
118. However, he had momentarily forgotten about the other foot-bound guards, one of which managed to tackle Batman to the edge of the roof, pinning his gun to the Tomorrow Knight's neck, trying to choke him. However, the Batman was able to get some leverage, and kicked the Krimzon Guard with both legs, flipping him up and over the edge of the roof, where he landed in some trash in the street below. The same street Asagi was currently on.
119.
120. With that taken care of, Batman leaped back to his feet, and quickly flew towards the hovercraft, rockets in his boots propelling him upwards. Claws extended from his fingers, and some sparks spurted from his boots, his feet sticking to the metal like glue and the claws giving him a good grip on the small craft. The Krimzon Guard who was piloting spun the aerial vehicle around and around, trying to shake off the Batman, but it was doing no good. Batman reached up, and grabbed the guard sitting in the back, pulling him off and letting him fall to the roof below. The pilot contined to drive the craft crazily, spinning and turning. Batman managed, despite the resistance against him, to claw his way up to the seats, and planted himself in the one behind the pilot, reaching and wrapping his arms around the pilot's neck, putting him in a good lock.
121.
122. The Krimzon Guard let go of the wheel to try and break free of his attacker's grip, but it was no good. Batman had him clamped like a vice. The hovercraft continued to swerve out of control, and headed in the direction of another building, one that was taller than the last, about to crash into a wall.
123.
124. The Batman leaped off with his captive before that happened, though, and the hovercraft exploded against the wall, pieces of metal falling to the street below.
125.
126. As the Batman fell, he launched a grapple line from his wrist, swinging across the gap below to safety on another building. He dropped the Krimzon Guard to the ground... and then slammed his head with a fist, knocking him out. He couldn't stay, though. More of the KG would be there soon, and he couldn't take on a bigger squad. He wouldn't risk flying, either. The Batmobile would be hard to disguise even with its camouflage, and even his suit's flight would be too high-profile with the guards on high alert. Therefore, he dropped to an alley below, and then a moment later, another person stepped out.
127.
128. He was a normal boy, in all senses of the word. Black hair, brown jacket, black shirt, blue jeans, backpack, and even the pointed ears of those native to this world, not too hard to make with some pliable putty and latex. Nothing conspicuous about him.
129.
130. Terry McGinnis looked around warily from the mouth of the alley, and stepped out. However, he didn't yet notice Asagi, and just began walking down the street, like a normal kid minding his own business.
131.
132. ====
133.
134. Once dispatching both Krimzon Guards, the black haired girl thought all the excitement of the night was over. It was fun, but sadly t was time to move on.
135.
136. That is, until another guard unceremoniously fell on a pile of trash bags right next to her.
137.
138. She couldn't really resist it, it was your usual curiosity, specially for an action-seeker like herself. Quickly looking for a way to get a better view, she found a steel pipe nearby that went all the way to the roof. So, she clung to it, after using the garbage and the unconscious guard as a lift upwards, and started to climb up, while with some difficulty. Putting a mental not in her head: Improve her abilities to climb and move around for more complicated worlds later on.
139.
140. Halfway through, she was surprised by the sight of a hovercraft out of control, which zoomed above her and made her loose her grip. Luckily, Asagi was used to gravity not working in her favor, and safely landed on her feet with no real problem.
141.
142. She was surprised to see the flying vehicle crash into a building, and most surprising, a black silhouette fleeing the explosion like it was nothing. She couldn't stay there, she had to get a closer look.
143.
144. But as soon as the tragic heroine moved out of the alley, another young man also appeared from the shadows of another alleyway as well.
145.
146. Any normal or sane person would probably mark it as a mere coincidence, something completely unrelated. But as everyone who knew her already know, Asagi was NOT a normal girl. Her knowledge in the way of the heroes of comic books and video games were telling her something was off with that guy. So, she decided to keep a short distance and keep an eye on this mysterious boy.
147.
148. ====
149.
150. Terry walked in the opposite direction of where the fight had taken place, still looking around warily. He relaxed more as he got farther away from the disturbance, and eventually brought up a finger to his ear, to a reciever hidden within. The reciever was connected to a miniscule mic that was covered by a near-seamless flesh-colored patch. It wasn't as good as his mask's tech, but it was inconspicuous. He spoke wquietly, nearly whispering.
151.
152. "Remind me again. What was the point of getting in a big fight with this city's military? I'm just looking for the cause of those weird memories."
153.
154. "They were threatening innocents. You know it was your duty to step in. No mission takes precedence over that. Wayne replied.
155.
156. "Yeah, yeah. But shouldn't we-" He stopped for a moment, suddenly hearing another persons footsteps. He caught the sight of someone taling him in his peripheral vision.
157.
158. "Hang on. Looks like I've caught a tail. I'll see what I can do about 'im."
159.
160. "Be careful. The Baron has powerful people under his control.
161.
162. Terry nodded, even if Bruce couldn't see it. He knew about Baron Praxis' tryannical rule over Haven. He took a sharp turn around the corner of a street just ahead, and waited for his follower to walk by, aiming to catch him by surprise. As soon as the follower walked around the corner, Terry grabbed him by the shirt, pushing the tail against the wall.
163.
164. He wasn't entirely surprised to find that it was a woman who had been following him - there were equal amounts of strong female heroes and villains where he was from. But she didn't look like an ally to the Krimzon Guard. Not enough, well, crimson. Regardless, it wasn't worth taking the chance.
165.
166. Wow, he almost sounded as paranoid as the old man.
167.
168. "Who are you?" Terry demanded, raising a threatening fist. "Why were you following me?"
169.
170. ====
171.
172. Asagi did her best to keep to not loose track of the dubious individual. By the way he was walking it seemed really obvious, at least for her self-called "keen eye", didn't fully know this place, but rather was trying to leave his previous position as quickly as possible. However, what she didn't expect was for her to be forcefully dragged by the man and pushed to a wall.
173.
174. Asagi had to curse under her breath for underestimate him. If she had a nickle for every time she thought a situation was going to be easy or that whoever she was facing or following was as harmless as he or she looked, hell, she might have enough to afford an spaceship!
175.
176. "H-hey, hands off!!"-she said while pushed the guy away of her. Now that she could see him closer it was obvious that he wasn't from here, just by the way he looked. She wasn't a patient person, so she cut right to the chase-"What's your deal? Suddenly big commotion happens and then suddenly some guy that looks nothing like a guy from these place mysteriously comes out of an alley?"
177.
178. ====
179.
180. Terry let the girl go when she pushed away. So, she wasn't an assassin or spy, nor a villain of any other type. Just curious. But even that could be dangerous, since he did have an identity to protect, after all. Even if no one knew him here, Bruce had told him that there were still plenty of villains. It would still be a good idea to keep his personas separate, so bad guys would only be on the lookout for Batman, not normal guy Terry McGinnis.
181.
182. "Just a coincidence. I saw an explosion, and those are usually things you want to get away from. You're not exactly just another face in the crowd, yourself." He replied, noting Asagi's lack of pointed ears, and unusual clothes.
183.
184. Suddenly, a spotlight appeared from around another corner, heading in their direction. Another KG patrol, on the lookout for their mysterious assailant. Even if he wasn't wearing the suit, he was definitely out past whatever curfew had been instated on the citizens. Terry grabbed Asagi roughly by the arm, and pulled her into the shadows with him. The patrol went past without noticing, and he stepped out, glancing around quickly for others.
185.
186. "And you say I don't know this place. C'mon, we have to get away from the thick of it."
187.
188. He began to walk away from the center of commotion, to a safer place where there would be less guards.
189.
190. ====
191.
192. "Oh yeah, "coincidence"..."-Asagi replied in a deadpan manner. Whatever it was savvyness, paranoia or just the fact that when she focus in one thing, she will not give it rest, she wasn't really believing Terry's claim. When he pointed out how she also stood out in this world, she responded-"Well, I can say the same to you, bub"-she made a little motion with her hands next to her hears, making them look like the long ears the citizens of the city had and to point out how Terry lacked them as well.
193.
194. Just then, she was once again dragged further into the alley as the spotlight of another Krizmon Guard passed through the street. Once, gone, Asagi grumbled under hear breath-"I don't even know the guy and I already hate this Baron whatever-his-name-is..."
195.
196. Now that they were safe from being caught, the two moved to somewhere they could continue this discussion without any more unpleasant interruptions.
197.
198. "You can easily tell I'm not from around here"-she whispered to Terry-"The name's Asagi, by the way. Asagi Asagiri."
199.
