  1. You have been at this corporate party for way too long. It was really boring. While many of your co-workers were having the time of their lives, exchanging shallow stories and drinking ridiculously priced beer and sake, it wasn't exactly your cup of tea. At least they were paid for by the company. Cover Corp has had a lot of financial success as of late - sponsorships, private investments and recently a huge government contract - and they could afford to host these kinds of decadent displays of wealth.
  2.
  3. You could excuse yourself and go home, but decided against it, knowing how vindictive and childish bosses can be when faced with perceived disrespect. Instead, you slowly got away from the partying and talking co-workers. It wasn't particularly hard for you to do - you didn't really belong in any of the cliques. You sat down at an empty table, ordered some coffee to stay awake - low doses of alcohol made you really sleepy - and proceeded to wait until the end of the party.
  4. There were two groups of guests. The first - bosses, their helpers and substitutes and other office workers - remained on the first floor. You were one of them. The second group, cream of the crop, the golden geese of the Cover Corp - streamers and their managers - occupied the second floor of the establishment. No ordinary person could ever get close to them, never mind actually talking to them. Guards were stationed on each entrance to the floor, not letting any devout fans that could worm their way in to the building. They also separated ordinary employees from the talents after a streak of harassment incidents.
  5.
  6. You looked at the door that separated the Olympus from the mortal plane, guarded by two burly men in black costumes. Even though you were only separated by one floor, the actual distance between you was staggering and disheartening. You really loved the girls and only wished them best - that's why you decided to work here, but you sometimes wondered if your efforts actually counted towards anything.
  7.
  8. Sipping coffee in solitude while loud music and chattering drowned out your thoughts - some could call that miserable, for you it was akin to meditation. Checking your phone, you saw that it had no reception. No Wi-Fi networks anywhere either. You scrolled through your apps and found something to play. You heard someone approaching your table.
  9.
  10. - Hey. All alone on a Friday night? - the person in question sat in front of you. It was a feminine voice that somehow sounded really familiar.
  11.
  12. - Yeah, pretty much. - you weren't offended at that comment, it was just the matter of fact. You didn't raise your eyes at them, hoping that they'll move away from you.
  13.
  14. - Really? You look kind of cute. - that was unexpected, but is probably not genuine. You have been teased like that before and has learnt to not take it at face value.
  15.
  16. - You look cuter. - you answered without thinking, your gaze still focused on that puzzle game on your phone.
  17.
  18. - How would you know that? You aren't even looking at me~ - the girl giggled, and yet again you felt some sort of deja vu. Her voice was really familiar, but you couldn't remember whose voice was it. Loud music didn't help.
  19.
  20. A hand with painted nails reached out to your phone and pressed the power button. The screen shut off, which annoyed you to no end. Who does she think she is? You put your glasses back on and lifted your heavy stare, only to be startled like a deer in the headlights seconds later.
  21.
  22. Before you was Shirakami Fubuki, perhaps one of the most respected and popular talents out there. She looked every bit as beautiful as she appeared on streams and photos, but now... Oh no. You could feel something rising inside you as you looked at her small frame, barely concealed by a white party dress. Her platinum white hair wasn't tied, freely flowing down to waist height. Her fox ears constantly twitched because of party music, now heavy on bass, and her tail with a signature star was slowly swaying from side to side. You had to forcefully pry your gaze away from her open shoulders and modest cleavage - you wouldn't forgive yourself if she got uncomfortable with you. Luckily, it seems like she hasn't noticed you ogling her body.
  23.
  24. - Hey, friend~
  25.
  26. - Hello, Fubuki. What are you doing down there? - you asked calmly, while panicking on the inside. Her party is upstairs, and she has literally no reason to go here. Or to approach you who were acting as a grey rock blending in the background. It was all so bizarre, and you had all the right to be on the alert.
  27.
  28. - I got bored and decided to look around for a bit. And what are you doing? You don't look like you're having fun. - Fubuki took a step forward, towering above you and giving you no choice but to look at her. Her face was smiling but her eyes betrayed a hint of playfulness.
  29.
  30. - Don't worry about me, I'm just a bit tired, that's all. Everyone's waiting for you up there, don't they? They are going to get worried. - as much as you wanted to sit down with the arctic fox and talk about nonsence, you felt a responsibility to end this interaction.
  31.
  32. - How about you go there with me? - she asked that casually, completely out of left field. A flurry of images rushed through your mind but you suppressed them. You didn't want to break into their little golden cage, as much as you wanted to interact with them.
  33.
  34. - I'm pretty sure I am not allowed to be here, Fubuki.
  35.
  36. - As long as you're with me, it's not a problem~ Now, princess, shall I take your hand? - she reached out her hand to you and giggled. After much panic mode consideration, which only lasted about a second, you decided to humour the girl and take her up on the offer. You really are a sucker for cute girls.
  37.
  38. You get up and gently take her hand. It was small and warm, just like any other hand. Both of you started walking out of the room and past the imposing guards. You were confused and asked her, where you were going. The arctic fox of Hololive looked you in the eye and just said "Trust me". You walked down the main hall and stopped near an elevator?..
  39. Gears finally started turning in your head. Two huge parties directly above each other would interfere with their equally loud music and cause many technical issues. If one party decides to play a slow track while the other is still playing a fast track, the emotional atmosphere of the slow track would be ruined. It makes sense that they would be separated by at least a floor.
  40.
  41. - Are the guards just for posterity? - you asked as you both were getting into an elevator
  42.
  43. - Yeah. They look scary but they are actually great people! They helped me move once. - said Fubuki, fiddling with the number pad. Elevator door have already closed but she still pushed various buttons in succession or at the same time, trying to remember the combination. - Sorry, I forgot the combination!
  44.
  45. This was your time to shine. Autism and mindless internet browsing in the past has taught you a whole variety of skills many would consider useless and/or borderline criminal. You looked all over the elevator chamber and didn't see any cameras. Good. You could get her straight to the rooftop if you wanted to.
  46.
  47. - I'm going to do something I'd need you to keep a secret, okay? - you asked Fubuki. She nodded. - For now, please hold down the "close door" key.
  48.
  49. You unscrewed the already loosened bolts on the number panel with your fingers and exposed the full panel. There was a key switch for the independent service mode, but, luckily for you, it was not a particularly secure lock. You picked it open with a pair of paper clips and a hair and turned the switch. You pressed the 3rd floor key on the detached panel and the elevator finally started moving! All of the password bullshit bypassed. Thank you, Deviant. Elevator is really just another stairway.
  50.
  51. - Whoa, how did you do that? - Fubuki's face was glowing with excitement and fascination. So adorable. You made sure to burn it into your memory.
  52.
  53. - It's a secret, remember? It's not exactly legal, so we're now partners in crime. - The elevator stopped, the sounds of song and dance beyond it indicated that you were on the right floor. You returned the elevator to the original state and the doors opened with a characteristic ding. The real fun begins now.
