  1. Her life in the watch wasnt terribly exciting, but Svena loved it, enjoying the opportunity of protecting her fellow townsfolk. The town wasnt very large, and nor was the watch, numbering only six members, including Svena, although a few volunteers would always be found in emergencies. The majority of her duties involved domestic disputes and handling drunks as well as other minor infractions for which she learnt Orc in order to help with the more unruly Half Orc minority, but the odd occasions requiring more serious attention came up and more than once Svena partook as part of the county militia, travelling to other towns to help beat back bandits or other such unwanted disturbances.

  4. At the age of 19, Svena happened to wander into a candleshop as a personal indulgence, where she met the love of her life. Jurgen Daebrok was a candlemaker, and the two had known each other for a rather long time, but never really spoke. Jurgen began to court her, and try to win her heart over, attempting to try and guess her favourite scent, though they were long lovers by the time he succeeded. When he did, it was the occasion on which he proposed to her, hiding the ring in a pomegranate and rose scented candle.

  6. The wedding was a joyous occasion which the entire town was invited to, and celebrated together. So began their life as a wedded couple, and Svena couldnt have been happier in her little corner of the world, and she even took up candlemaking herself, though she wasnt very good at it. Jurgen nevertheless burnt her candles down to the stub. The two both played instruments, and they played in a small band together, once a week in the local tavern. And the jewel in their metaphorical crown of happiness was their child, born when Svena was 22.

  8. Svena and Jurgen loved their daughter Hellen more than anything, and bought her anything her heart desired. She grew, and with her so did their love for each other. Yet at the age of 6, she had an accident wherein she fell from a horse. She died within minutes in their arms. Bereft and stricken with grief unbearable, the two tried to make their marriage work, but the pain of child loss had driven them too far apart, and it hurt too much to be together. They drifted apart, and anulled their marriage six months later.
  9. Jurgen took off to some city in a distant land, becoming quite succesful. Yet no candles lit his world like Svena's amateur attempts had. Svena herself decided that she couldnt bear to find happiness in her home anymore, and decided it was time for her to move on.

  11. By this time she'd reached the rank of Sergeant, one of two in her town, and superseded in rank by a Lieutenant and a Captain, but a rank deservedly earned nonetheless. Resigning her commission, she set out to try find happiness in some other corner of the world, or at least experience enough to let her move past what had happened. She took with her her ring, and the flute she'd bought her child, and following her captains recommendation that she might find adventurous employment somewhere in Chult, she joined an expedition to determine the source of some curse or the like, setting forth with a heavy heart and a hopeful soul.
