  1. [2/8/2018 1:17:40 PM] Justin Hopkins: You may very well not be getting the Megalodon.
  2. [2/8/2018 1:17:45 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): why not?
  3. [2/8/2018 1:17:46 PM] Justin Hopkins: You're just going to need to bite that bullet honestly.
  4. [2/8/2018 1:17:55 PM] Justin Hopkins: Because not every faction needs a heavy battleship with a forward gun.
  5. [2/8/2018 1:18:17 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): not every faction needs one yes. We are one of the factions that need it though
  6. [2/8/2018 1:18:33 PM] Justin Hopkins: I can think of several good reasons not to include it, but I doubt its worth the time to debate it with you, because at the end of the day, you want yourself a big shooty boi.
  7. [2/8/2018 1:18:37 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): for both farming, and to have a bit more of a chance of survival when people dog pile on us
  8. [2/8/2018 1:18:46 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): which happens extremely frequently
  9. [2/8/2018 1:19:03 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): i do want my shooty boi yes
  10. [2/8/2018 1:19:11 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): but my members want it much more than i do
  11. [2/8/2018 1:30:00 PM] Justin Hopkins: The fact of the matter is that you you are the dominant force in the Omicrons, in gameplay even if not in lore. You take your blows, you have your losses, sure. But at the end of the day, you win and they don't.
  12.
  13. Only one of your main enemies actually has a heavy battleship, and when everything comes out of the woodwork in Delta, you've got bombers for that. I can think of no scenarios in which a heavy battleship is invaluable except for base sieges, and that mechanic is quite likely to be reworked very, very soon.
  14.
  15. On top of that you're a small faction. I said it, Lyth, you guys are small. That, in my eyes, makes two battleships look very, very weird. The CR only got the Deimos because Teerin said to give it to them, and I don't think most of the devteam was very happy about it. Apparently that decision was based on some old promise by Blodo, but whatever. Bad writing is bad writing. I'm sure we can argue this one back and forth, but the idea that you guys would be packing a heavy warship with a forward gun when only one other faction in the game (which happens to be a full blown house) can do that is frankly fucking absurd, on top of ALREADY having a battleship.
  16.
  17. Finally, I feel it would actually ruin the aesthetic of the Core. Admittedly, you'd know this one better than I would, but it might be interesting to hear how an outsider with a brain actually views the thing. While the Core talks the talk and does the whole GLORIA AETERNA shit with their catechisms and the like, my actual perception of them from the outside is something of a Texas Ranger Division style thing. They're the meanest motherfuckers at what they do where they are, but where they are is the wilderness, and they don't have much. Giving them the Megalodon would absolutely skewer that for me.
  18. [2/8/2018 1:34:43 PM] Justin Hopkins: I wouldn't mind seeing it as an SRP'd flagship, by which I mean ONE (I want to do away with Arbiter and Tempest style situations where an entire OF can use a ship but not indies), but as something the whole OF or the OF+Indies could use, I just can't see it working.
  19. [2/8/2018 1:34:58 PM] Justin Hopkins: And that doesn't do a fucking thing to help your primary complaint.
  20. [2/8/2018 1:38:06 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): The fact of the matter is that you you are the dominant force in the Omicrons, in gameplay even if not in lore. You take your blows, you have your losses, sure. But at the end of the day, you win and they don't.the reason why Carthage died is because we got sick of how things keep ending the same way: the other side gets desperate, throws RP out the window, and starts making fairly oorp alliances (Order, OC, Corsairs, AI, Coalition etc all teaming up) with each other just to doggy pile us. During the first FP11 stuff Alley had to step in and tell off the other sides for doing this but since then the behaviour has returned and it's going on unchecked. It's what makes it a bit harder to get people to log and why my members have been so desperately waiting to get this battleship because it's at least some way to deal with this issue.
  21. 22. [2/8/2018 1:39:32 PM] Justin Hopkins: Nothing advanced about a big gun strapped to a big ship.
  23. [2/8/2018 1:39:38 PM] Justin Hopkins: That's logistics, not tech.
  24. [2/8/2018 1:39:40 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): I wouldn't mind seeing it as an SRP'd flagship, by which I mean ONE (I want to do away with Arbiter and Tempest style situations where an entire OF can use a ship but not indies), but as something the whole OF or the OF+Indies could use, I just can't see it working. We're heavily against locking things away from indies. Another reason for requesting the battleship is because we want to draw in indies by giving them an easier way to farm Nomad remains.

  30. That's logistics, not tech.Finer details would entail that they've found an efficient way to do it through their own technological advancements
  31. [2/8/2018 1:41:52 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): so someone without that same level of expertise wouldn't be able to repeat it in the same way
  32. [2/8/2018 1:42:08 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): also the dev team did say two years ago we'd get it in
  33. [2/8/2018 1:42:22 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): there's just been difficulties personal and otherwise that have got in the way of that :D
  34. [2/8/2018 1:42:27 PM] Justin Hopkins: You're going to end up with a pretty stale faction if you wave all your problems away with tech.
  35. [2/8/2018 1:43:03 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): we solve our problems by having bigger guns
  36. [2/8/2018 1:50:34 PM] Justin Hopkins: Ultimately your issue is one of diplomacy.
  37. [2/8/2018 1:50:54 PM] Justin Hopkins: I think the Core has enough skilled players to know that your tools aren't always going to solve the problem.
  38. [2/8/2018 1:52:14 PM] Justin Hopkins: I don't see any good options for conflict de-escalation much less alliance building, but I also know that a heavy battleship with a forward gun isn't going to do dick to stop a gank.
  39. [2/8/2018 1:52:26 PM] Justin Hopkins: If anything it'll just piss more of the server off so they'll log more stuff.
  40. [2/8/2018 1:56:03 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): I think the Core has enough skilled players to know that your tools aren't always going to solve the problem. Those days are honestly gone now tbh
  41. [2/8/2018 1:56:12 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): Our good pvpers don't play the game anymore
  42. [2/8/2018 1:56:17 PM] Justin Hopkins: Lyth,
  43. [2/8/2018 1:56:28 PM] Justin Hopkins: I wasn't saying "You have aces, you don't need this"
  44. [2/8/2018 1:56:33 PM] Justin Hopkins: You don't balance around that. Ever,.
  45. [2/8/2018 1:56:34 PM] Justin Hopkins: You don't.
  46. [2/8/2018 1:56:46 PM] Justin Hopkins: What I was saying is that you should know big ships are not going to help.
  47. [2/8/2018 1:57:14 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): It's the only option we have unless I can get 20~ new consistently active members
  48. [2/8/2018 1:57:27 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): Frequently active actually
  49. [2/8/2018 1:57:35 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): Plus the Megalodon also has a PvE purpose too
  50. [2/8/2018 1:57:46 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): It's not just for PvP
  51. [2/8/2018 1:57:55 PM] Justin Hopkins: That's actually the only argument you've made for it which has any merit imo.
  52. [2/8/2018 1:58:03 PM] Justin Hopkins: I was thinking about that.
  53. [2/8/2018 1:58:11 PM] Justin Hopkins: There has to be another way to do that, though.
  54. [2/8/2018 1:58:55 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): In fact I initially requested it for PvE, didn't care how itd play PvP wise, but the situations I described above started happening more frequently so we had to start considering its greater usage
  55. [2/8/2018 1:59:11 PM] Justin Hopkins: I have an idea.
  56. [2/8/2018 1:59:18 PM] Justin Hopkins: You might hate it.
  57. [2/8/2018 1:59:30 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): To put it this way Justin, if it doesn't get in a chunk of my faction is going to give up and stop playing Core
  58. [2/8/2018 1:59:57 PM] Justin Hopkins: Ye olde threats.
  59. [2/8/2018 2:00:10 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): i wish i was joking :D
  60. [2/8/2018 2:00:18 PM] Justin Hopkins: Man if they're going to leave over not getting a second battleship they should leave anyway.
  61. [2/8/2018 2:00:23 PM] Justin Hopkins: Now on the PvE front,
  62. [2/8/2018 2:00:28 PM] Justin Hopkins: What if you guys got a missile frigate instead? (Using the word frigate because missile cruiser sounds retarded, not suggesting a totally new class)
  63. [2/8/2018 2:00:49 PM] Justin Hopkins: Big, slow, cap nuking missiles. Dick all NPCs could do about them.
  64. [2/8/2018 2:01:08 PM] Justin Hopkins: Might even work against players in the right situation but given the nature of missiles I wouldn't bet on it.
  65. [2/8/2018 2:01:17 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): any slight lag and it's just rendered useless
  66. [2/8/2018 2:01:22 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): missiles are too unreliable
  67. [2/8/2018 2:01:30 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): they're better off being optional equips
  68. [2/8/2018 2:01:48 PM] Justin Hopkins: Man I hate Freelancer.
  69. [2/8/2018 2:03:02 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): yeah with a better engine it'd be no issue
  70. [2/8/2018 2:03:09 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): and it's a cool idea in theory
  71. [2/8/2018 2:03:21 PM] Justin Hopkins: Oh well.
  72. [2/8/2018 2:03:25 PM] Justin Hopkins: Librelancer 2019.
  73. [2/8/2018 2:03:27 PM] Justin Hopkins: (happy)
  74. [2/8/2018 2:03:30 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): hopefully
  75. [2/8/2018 2:03:41 PM] Justin Hopkins: (Don't tell Ichiru I said that, he will shit. Everywhere.)
  76. [2/8/2018 2:03:45 PM] Justin Hopkins: Like that's just a guess on my part.
  77. [2/8/2018 2:04:25 PM] Justin Hopkins: Anyway look, I want to work with you guys and help you, and its not like I'm not acknowledging the problem,
  78. [2/8/2018 2:04:32 PM] Justin Hopkins: But the Megalodon isn't the fix.
  79. [2/8/2018 2:04:51 PM] Justin Hopkins: I'd even put it in game to show you it doesn't work, but then we'd never be able to take it away.
  80. [2/8/2018 2:04:57 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): (sun)
  81. [2/8/2018 2:05:13 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): well
  82. [2/8/2018 2:05:16 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): i can see what you mean
  83. [2/8/2018 2:05:32 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): it'll solve/improve the problem in 50% of situations though at least
  84. [2/8/2018 2:05:56 PM] Luc E-W (Lythrilux): which i would consider effective enough until another solution comes forward
