Short Wholesome Dog Story

>Be dog girl
>Be good friends with Anon, a human guy
>Like, really good friends
>You make sure to see him as much as possible, both in school and out
>And any time you see him you get a rush of excitement
>You especially loved when he patted your head called you a good girl
>Meeting up is always the same
>Your tail wags uncontrollably and ears flatten back as you hug him as tight as possible
>Sometimes you hug him too tightly, or your claws accidentally dig into his skin too hard
>But he always shrugged it off, no matter how many times you repeated apologies
>He would always be with you, through happy days and melancholic nights
>You remember a specific day back in freshman year where you tried asking Michael from English class on a date, only to be turned down immediately
>He was there, and lent an arm to cry into that night
>It didn’t take long after that to realize it was all based on looks
>You didn’t really love Michael, it was just teenage hormones speaking for you
>Now all he remains is a joke between the you and Anon
>Good times
>Although today, he came up just as excited as you usually are
>Which in turn, made you more excited
>”Look!” He said as he handed you a slip
>It’s an acceptance letter!
>For a university across the country
>It’s a prestigious one, but your heart sunk a little learning that he’s gonna leave
>A bittersweet smile slipped across your face as you congratulated him
>But you couldn’t stay sad with that smile on his face
>And you spent as much time as possible with him up to the day he had to leave
>Which wasn’t much, given how his last few months were spent getting ready to move
>It was around this point where you realized something
>You loved him, and you have been for years
>You just kept denying it up until this point
>You remember the day you had that epiphany
>It was dreary, and late at night, about two weeks before the day
>He just dropped you off at your house after a day at the park, and that sudden realization dawned across your mind as you saw his car drive away
>You haven’t been able to get it out of your mind since
>Eventually, the day came, and you went with his family to see him off
>Even skipping your little sister’s dance recital just to be there
>You tried your best to not whine like a little pup, but you couldn’t help yourself
>And then he was gone, and that was the last you saw of him for six months
>You talked to him over the phone as much as possible, but it wasn’t the same
>You won’t take in the euphoric scent of his clothes, or feel the soft texture of his hairless body
>And with both of you getting busy with your own lives, it was hard to stay in touch as much as before
>You tried to distract yourself, but it was hard
>Being a dog, it’s hard not to think about the person you’ve bonded with
>Much less being away from that person
>You’re kicking yourself for not confessing your feelings when you had the chance
>There were tons of opportunities, even after you realized your feelings
>You were also subconsciously waiting for him to confess to you
>Although he never did
>He never even implied he liked you that way, but you tried (and failed) to not think about that
>Eventually the holidays came, and he got to come back
>You went with his family to see him at the airport
>Seeing how you’re in public, you tried to not get overly excited as you saw him in the distance, same as he always was, but with a human girl walking beside him
>”Hey [waifur], it’s nice to see you again!”
>Your heart swelled up as you heard his voice again
>You said hello back excitedly as he turned and wrapped an arm around the girl next to him
>”And hey, I’d like you to meet my girlfriend, we met just after I got settled in my dorm, and she’s been a part of me since!”
