  1. Believing that the shepherd's disappearance was Glam's work, they went first to his mound. They approached the grave and saw something unusual: the shepherd with his neck and every other bone in his body broken.

  9. Thorhall then said: 'Matters have taken a good turn with your arrival, because Glam is used to rising every night. He rides astride the house or he breaks up the door, as you can clearly see.'

  13. When the farmer got to the stable he saw that someone had broken into it. The horse had been dragged out through the door, and every bone in its body broken.

  17. When the door opened, Grettir saw th creature stick its head in. It seemed to Grettir to be large and horribly deformed, with strangely oversized features. Glam entered slowly, and once he had passed through the door and was inside he stood still. At his full height he reached the level of the rafters. The he turned towards the hall, placing his arms up on the crossbeam.

  21. At that moment Grettir dashed under Glam's arms. He grabbed Glam around the middle and squeezed his spine as hard as he could, thinking that Glam would topple over. But the slave grabbed Grettir's arms with so much strength that Grettir was forced to use all his power to break loose. Grettir now retreated along the bench, seat by seat. The two struggled, breaking the bench-posts and everything else in their way. Glam now wanted to get out of the house, but Grettir held onto him. Grettir braced his feet wherever he could find a footing, but still Glam was able to drag him across the hall. They struggled violently, because the slave intended to drag Grettir from the hall. As difficult as it was to fight Glam inside, Grettir saw that it would be worse dealing with him outside the house. For this reason he put all his strength into preventing Glam from getting out.

  23. When they reached the entry-way, Glam, throwing all his strength into the fight, pulled Grettir right up to him. When Grettir saw that he could no longer resist, he did several things at once. He threw himself as hard as he could against Glam, then grabbed the slave under the arms while bracing both his feet against a stone that had been set in the entrance. The slave was unprepared for this manoeuvre. He had been trying to pull Grettir towards himself, but now he fell backwards, tumbling out through the door. As he fell, his shoulders ripped off the top of the doorframe, so that the roof rafters roke apart, dislodging both the wooden frame and the frozen turfs around it. Glam, now off balance, came crashing out of the house with Grettir on top of him.
