44. The USS Enterprise's historic five-year mission continues with all new episodes of the original series. "Star Trek: Continues", a new Trek series, beams down with exciting adventures of the Federation's most heroic crew led by Captain James T. Kirk. The lighting and color of the highly accurate sets accentuate the equally detailed props and costumes, matching the original series that ran from 1966-69! With acting and stories that also replicate the original series, the adventures are sure to dazzle even the most die hard Trek fans. Witness now the untold morality plays that explore the final frontier and more importantly... the human condition. Fans of the original series will especially enjoy the pilot episode as a familiar guest star from the original series reprises his role in a sequel entitled "Pilgrim of Eternity".

 46. Some spoiler alerts. I began reading the initial review for Star Trek Continues and started to agree here and there then re-read the review. I suppose the reviewer must have more than a bit of Vic Mignogna envy.

Let's cover points I do agree with. Mignogna does lack the firm, deep tone I would want from a Kirk character. It would be nice if he did some post production audio work. However, his characterization is spot on, especially in the follow up Mirror, Mirror episode Fairest of Them All. I can easily see Shatner acting with the same panicked frustration.

All of the actors and actresses were fairly shot down with their acting abilities. Nemecek as McCoy could use improvement. Yes, a lack of southern drawl and a huge chunk of being an active role in the Kirk/Spock/McCoy pyramid. Unfortunately a good deal of what would have been his roles go to Ms. Specht as the Counselor. She could certainly be dropped and I would not be sad. However, I have seen worse acting.

Scripts - yes, could be better. I was not a fan of Imahara as a crying Sulu in the first episode when his buddy was lost. Sorry, I can't picture Sulu crying like a little girl. Nor was I a fan of Lolani. The "Big Green Machine" of Lou Ferrigno would have made a great villain in later episodes. However, I am more than willing to give the group more than a 3 episode run before condemning their efforts. And you have forgotten that the series is being filmed in such a way that it looks as though it "continued" from the original.

Whining about Lenart being a blue-eyed Chekov reached hypocrisy at warp speed. When did Shatner's eyes turn blue like Chris Pine? All in all - I have seen worse. Mignogna and crew are doing a pretty good job. If you can do better, give us the URL so we can see, otherwise, give the guys and golden tribble for at least trying. I rather see their episodes than a JJ Trek production any time.
 47. Yes, I know, I know, everyone's gushing about it. Now, don't get me wrong: the cinematography, the set decoration, the costumes etc., these should all get Oscars. Or Emmy's, what ever. But with a show that has the level of well-knownness as Star Trek, that is so beloved as Star Trek, when it's re-imagined, rather than sequelled or pre-quelled, the comparison with the original is inevitable and harsh. And constant.

Now, that the actors were different, that could be forgiven, but that they looked so ... off, so weird, to be blunt: so old and so .... ugly, that can't. The viewer compares what he or she sees constantly to the original. And when not just one actor, but 5 actors all come up short, it's too much. They weren't bad actors, they were pretty good. But Spock looked weird, had a high pitched voice, lacked gravitas and Vulcan-charisma. I didn't believe him for one second. Uhura had wrinkles. Sulu is not supposed to have eye sacks, he looked awful. Bones is too fat and chunky looking. And about the ersatz Kirk, while he was the most likable looking of the bunch, my gaydar went off big time, and I'm not even gay. Good gay actors should be able to play butch. Hollywood is filled with them. You should be able to get those gay idiosyncratic tics, walk and moves out of your system! Kirk wasn't gay, and Shattner never played him that way.

Like it or not, Hollywood, and the rest of society have become a youth worshipping culture. Hollywoods dirty little secret is that they cover up bad acting with prettyness. Same goes for when you try to re imagine something like this: the actors being pretty or young would have gone a long way.

The Melancholic Alcoholic.
