  1. >Today was a good day, Keira thought to herself as she woke up to the bright sun casting its light into her room
  2. >It was Saturday, which meant that she didn't have to go to school today!
  3. >She could spend all day playing house and dolly and eat pizza and carrots with ranch dressing
  4. >It was going to be such a great day, she just knew it
  5. >She jumped out of bed, tagging her favorite doll, Ashley, along with her as she ran downstairs to watch the early morning cartoons
  6. >Daddy always made sure to leave the TV on Boomerang before he went to sleep on Fridays, so Keira could just turn on the TV and instantly dive into the world of Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner, and Tweety Bird
  7. >'Good morning Mommy!' she calls as she clears the final few stairs with a jump and runs over to give her Mom a hug
  8. >Since Keira was only a little foxgirl, she couldn't give her mother a hug persay, more of a tight embrace to her leg
  9. >That didn't bother her though, Mommy was 'pregnant' which meant she was carrying babies inside of her
  10. >Plus it meant she was going to be a big sister soon, and would have to be 'the big girl of the house' as Daddy would say
  11. >Mommy gave her a gentle smile, rubbing her head as she set her hand on her stomach
  12. >'Ah...good morning Keira, be careful running in the house, I don't want you to hurt yourself' Mommy said as she prepared a simple rice and miso soup breakfast
  13. >'Ahhh, just let the girl play dear, she's as smart as they come' Daddy says over his newspaper, paitently waiting for breakfast to be served
  14. >'I know...I just don't want her to get hurt'
  15. >Daddy got up from the table, coming behind his foxgirl wife, giving her a gentle kiss as he gingerly set his hand on her bulging stomach
  16. >'She'll be fine, just like these two will be fine in here' he said, giving her a goodbye kiss before heading into the living room
  17. >Keira was already set to watch her show, holding Ashley in her arms and hugging it affectionately as she watched
  18. >'Someday Ashley, I'll be a Mommy just like Mommy, and have lots and lots of kids!'
  19. >'That's quite a dream Ki-Ki, are you sure you don't want to be an engineer or a doctor or anyting like that?' Daddy asks as he takes his seat in his recliner
  20. >'Yep, I've decided I'm gonna be a Mommy when I grow up! I'm gonna find a good husband who loves me and we'll get married and live in a nice house and-'
  21. >Daddy cuts her off as he picks her up, twirling her up in the air before holding her on his arm
  22. >'And raising lots of baby foxgirls and boys right?'
  23. >'Hehehe, yes Daddy!'
  24. >Daddy smiles, setting her back down to her cartoons as he looks towards Mommy
  25. >She was holding back a small tear as she finished the breakfast and set it at the table
  26. >Mommy goes over to the couch, sitting down slowly as she begins to relax
  27. >'Keira, dear, can you come over here please?' she asks as she rubs her stomach
  28. >'What is it Mommy?'
  29. >'I want to show you something dear, something wonderful'
  30. >'Okay!' Keria says as she bounds over to the couch with Ashley in tow, taking a seat next to Mommy
  31. >Mommy rubs her stomach once again, then leans in close to whisper to Keira
  32. >'I want you to listen to your little sisters'
  33. >'R-really? How?'
  34. >'Just come close and listen'
  35. >With that, Keira shimmies over closer to her mother's bump, pressing her ear up to it and closing her eyes
  36. >At first, she could only hear her mother's heartbeat, then the tiny pattering of two little heartbeats, in tandem with their mother's, almost lost in the bounding of the Mommy's heart
  37. >'Wow...' Keira said, keeping her ear to her mother's stomach as her mother gave her a gentle headpat
  38. >'They can hear you, just like you can hear them. They may not understand our words, but they can understand our emotions...its why I sing to them'
  39. >Keira tilted her head to the side, a little confused
  40. >'You sing to them?'
  41. >'Every moment that I can...'
  42. >Mommy then began a simple little hum, leaning forward as far as she comfortably could and began her song
  43. >...
  44. >She finished with a labored breath, Keira estatic and nearly beginning to tear up
  45. >'That was amazing Mommy! I never knew you could sing!'
  46. >Mommy merely blushed, rubbing her stomach again as she slowly calmed her breathing and struggled to sit up
  47. >'It's nothing really...just something I do to show my love'
  48. >Keira sat up, leaning against her mother
  49. >'Hmmm...'
  50. >As she sat, she thought about what she could do to show her love for her little sisters
  51. >She was the big girl of the house now, she had to...
  52. >With that, a brilliant idea hatched her Keira's brain, and so she went back to watching cartoons
  53.
  54. >Keira spent the next several days carefully listening to Mommy whenever she could, listening for bits and pieces of that wonderful song to spill into her memory
  55. >At every moment that she could, Keira hummed, mouthed, and even quietly sang her mother's love song, trying to get it just as good as Mommy in time for the great unveiling
  56. >Later on, around Christmas, Mommy woke up screaming in the late hours of the night, 'THE BABY'S COMING!!!!'
  57. >The family rushed to the hospital and into the emergency room, where several nurses and doctors came to help Mommy with the delivery
  58. >She was deathgripping Daddy's hand, and Keira in turn deathgripped her Daddy's other hand
  59. >'Is Mommy going to be alright Daddy?' Keira asked as she tugged on her Daddy's shirt with a yawn
  60. >'Mommy's going to be fine Ki-Ki, she's just in a lot of pain right now'
  61. >'W-what about the babies? Are they hurt too?'
  62. >'No, they're fine'
  63. >'B-but'
  64. >'They're fine, don't worry about it' Daddy said as he brought over the little foxgirl to a play area just outside the reception desk to the maternity ward
  65. >'Now, I just need you to stay here for now, okay Ki-Ki?'
  66. >'B-but what about Mommy?'
  67. >'Don't worry, I'll be with her, she'll be fine, and she'll be even better if you just wait her for now, okay?'
  68. >Keira sniffled
  69. >'Okay Daddy...'
  70. >The next few hours were utterly agonising
  71. >Soon there seemed like too many toys to play with, and too many children to be friendly with
  72. >Keira just wanted to see Mommy again, and make sure she wasn't hurt
  73. >She wanted to make sure she could at least sing that song once to Mommy...
  74. >Tears began to fall now, and the crying came soon after
  75. >Why...why all of this?
  76. >Why couldn't she just sing the song...Mommy would've been better and not hurt if she sang the song...
  77. >It's all her fault now that Mommy's hurt and maybe even the babies an-
  78. >A firm yet gentle hand came over to Keira, brushing the tears out of her eyes as it pat her head
  79. >'Hey...its alright...everything's alright Ki-Ki'
  80. >Keira turned to the voice and found Daddy, a little washed out but nonetheless in front of her
  81. >He opened his arms to her, and she jumped into them without a second thought
  82. >'I-I-I thought you left me!'
  83. >'No...no, I just needed help Mommy for a little bit, I'm sorry I couldn't bring you with me...'
  84. >Keira began to pull it together as she felt safe in her father's embrace
  85. >'So...Mommy's alright?'
  86. >'Of course she is, and you now have three baby sisters now,' Daddy said as he nuzzled up to Keira
  87. >Keira gasped in excitement
  88. >'I thought you only said there was two? I'm a big sister to three of baby sisters?'
  89. >Daddy nodded as he ruffled up her hair and entered the room where Mommy was
  90. >'And I think she'll be very happy about your suprise' he says with a wink as he sets her down and holds her hand as they entered the room
  91. >Mommy was in the bed surrounded by sheets and cradling three little fox girls, all wrapped in folds and sleeping peacefully
  92. >She looked exhuasted, and like she had done a lot of crying, just like Keira had
  93. >'Hi sweetie...say hi to your little sisters...this is May...Elizabeth...and Rachel...' she said with a weak voice and smile
  94. >Keira catiously walked up to the little bundled up babies, being careful not to wake them
  95. >They were so adorable, their little fox ears folded down as they slept, their breath almost silent in the midst of the noises of the machines around the family
  96. >Keira faced Mommy, bringing her paws together behind her as she tried to muster the courage to ask to suprise her mother
  97. >'Um...Mommy...can...I sing to my little sisters?'
  98. >Mommy let out a weak smile, then nodded
  99. >Keira started out soft, almost unsure if she could properly sing it despite her practice, but as she continued, it grew stronger and more nuanced, with small inflections and falsettos as she moved up and down the verses of the song
  100. >In the last few verses, she was nearly choking down tears as she inched closer and closer to her little sisters, trying to sing as not to wake them, but also so they could hear it
  101. >She wanted to let them know how much she loved them from the moment she saw her little sisters, and with the final notes, had the entire room in tears
  102. >A few nurses had come in to check up on Mommy, only to stop and listen, and so on, and so on
  103. >Until the room was nearly full of nurses and even a few doctors as she sang her heart out
  104. >As Keira collected herself, she looked to Mommy, and then to her little sisters
  105. >The sisters ever so slowly opened their eyes...
  106. >And smiled...
