  17.
  18.
  19. Region -> Defines the region this XML came from. An EU Vita will check the EU server and will get an EU xml file (which contains the links to the firmware files).
  20.
  21. level0_system_version -> This is kinda the core. It was rarely updated (between 1.50 and 1.60) and this update patched the 'dolphin mode' and removed the 'extended system informations' (those you could trigger via a button combination).
  22.
  23. level1_system_version and level2_system_version -> Defines if this update is mandatory. If it is necessary to play online, to visit the PSN store, etc. In general, it defines if the firmware is mandatory for using the PSN service.
  24.
  25. map -> Introduced in firmware 1.80, it defines the "version" of the maps app. Last updated: 1.80
  26.
  27. system_version -> This is the string that will be shown in the system information. It kinda tells the Vita which firmware the XML file contains. If this option changes, the vita will be able to 'see' this new system version.
  28.
  29. Label -> What the vita shows if you "search for updates". It always shows the 'short version' of the system_version.
  30.
  31. update_data update_type="full" -> This is the 'release candidate' of the firmware. This will be downloaded if you update your vita from, e.g., firmware 1.66 to 1.67.
  32.
  33.
  34. image size -> the size of the firmware file in bytes.
  35.
  36. http://deu01.psp2.update.playstation.net/update/psp2/image/2012_0403/rel_fb68d6099eab0ba188fd92ebff5085a2/PSP2UPDAT.PUP?dest=eu
  37.
  38. Explanation of the URL:
  39.
  40. http://dXX01.psp2.update.playstation.net/update/psp2/image/DATE/ZZZ_HASH-of-the-File/PSP2UPDAT.PUP?dest=XX
  41.
  42. ZZZ = Definition of the update package. Either release (rel), systemdata (sd) or pre-install (pre).
  43. XX = region (e.g.: EU, US, JP, KR, RU, AU, etc.)
  44.
  45.
  46. <recovery spkg_type="systemdata"> -> It defines that the following update file will be necessary for restoring the system firmware (via recovery menu). This is necessary if the Vita refuses to boot, but will let you enter recovery mode. Systemdata partly defines which 'release firmware' can be applied. You cant install FW 1.50 if your PS Vita had FW 1.60 installed. Even recovery mode wont allow this.
  47.
  48. <image spkg_version="01.000.010"> -> Definition of the firmware package. The 'update file' is the 'release candidate', the systemdata package is (partly) for recovering the firmware.
  49.
  50.
  51. <recovery spkg_type="preinst"> -> It defines that the following update file will be necessary for restoring the system firmware (via recovery menu). This is necessary if the Vita refuses to boot, but will let you enter recovery mode. pre-install partly defines which 'release firmware' can be applied. The 'update file' is the 'release candidate', the pre-install package is (partly) for recovering the firmware. It seems to be the "base" for the firmware. Pre-install and systemdata are necessary for recovering the ps vita software. The release firmware applies the latest patches. Pre-install and systemdata are updated with every new (release) firmware released. Pre and SD prevent downgrading via recovery menu.
  52.
  53. <image spkg_version="01.000.000"> -> Definition of the firmware package. The 'update file' is the 'release candidate', the pre-install package is (partly) for recovering the firmware. It seems to be the 'base firmware' for the PS Vita.

  55.
  56. This is in general everything the Update XML file can tell you.
  57. I might edit this page, if I find some mistakes or new information about it.
