  1. “Shit.”
  2.
  3. You exclaimed as you ducked out of the way, a stray bullet bouncing off a nearby wall as the gunfight ebbed with the flow. The ABB made their inexorable, reckless advance upon the others even as they tried to run, the more elite group avoiding direct combat save to take chances at pot shots. But their attempts at breaking the stalemate were few, and halfhearted, as the ABB thugs advanced, most of them carrying guns of some kind. You counted at least two, massively illegal automatic rifles in the mix.
  4.
  5. It was intense.
  6.
  7. Brief, terrifying stints of motion characterized your attempts at keeping close enough to the fighting that you could observe without becoming a part of the entire thing.
  8.
  9. Just as you usually did.
  10.
  11. But there was another, more important battle going on around the men fighting, as you watched your sister lift off into the air only to see the falling body of the ABB’s second in command come down with a sword in hand striking Victoria with it as he descended then crumbled to ash.
  12.
  13. Hit and run tactics, keeping the powerhouse that was your sister off balance as he relentlessly pursued her, keeping her out of the fight which was rapidly becoming one sided as the larger number of the ABB gangster’s closed in on the more military seeming group and surrounded them. It was a testament to the skill of that small group that they hadn’t yet been taken down by the sprays of gunfire and death which came their way.
  14.
  15. Skill and a luck boat load of luck. Luck which was sure not to hold out the longer that this conflict went on.
  16.
  17. All it would take now was a lucky shot or two rapidly decrease the potential effectiveness of their tactical discipline as the ABB were on the edge of overrunning them without anywhere left for them to run.
  18.
  19. This couldn’t have been regular gang action.
  20.
  21. No this was clearly something much bigger going on, none of the gangs on the ground who had human members to spare would risk their parahuman troops without good reason, not for something like this seemed on the surface at least.
  22.
  23. You were conspicuous in your whites, but that conspicuous nature was an intentional affection. As the Panacea most saw you as not a threat, the medic who was to be left alone, and those few times in your life out on patrol that you’d been shot at or otherwise attacked, it had been accidental... except for the one single time where someone made the mistake of making it personal, trying to shoot you during an altercation specifically.
  24.
  25. The next day the man was found beaten, broken bones, and deposited at the hospital with an apology written on his forehead.
  26.
  27. He’d one of Kaiser’s goons.
  28.
  29. The calculating bastard had with that made a declaration that you were essentially to be seen as more valuable to the cape community at large than any of the squabbles between the various factions of the Bay. Insufferable as it was to be
