- There was a tall mountain overlooking a wide sea,

- and in a high place in the mountain, high enough to make you
- go "oop," there lived a single Yanchamu.

- That Yanchamu, wanting to become stronger, spent day after day in strict training.

- When they weren't training they would gather up all kinds of odd things and keep them in their den.

- Among those they especially prized a poster of a Windy.

- Windy was the pokemon the Yanchamu most wanted to be like.

- A little ways from the mountain where the Yanchamu lived,
- there was a town and a single boy living in it.

- Rumors of the Yanchamu had become a topic of discussion
- in the Pokemon Center in that town.

- One trainer said:
- 「miroyo kono minokonashito sugoi pawā! namino yanchamuja nai na」
- "Look. Train like that and you'd end up with tons of power!
- No way that's an average Yanchamu."

- And another trainer said:
- 「demo, unto takai bashoni iru kara daremo getto shini ikenairashii ze」
- "But it's in a oop-high kind of place, so no way
- is anyone gonna go catch it."
- machideno uwasawo yosoni yanchamuwa shugyouni akekureteimashita
- Far from those rumors, the Yanchamu trained from dawn to dusk.
- yanchamuniwa yumega arimashita
- They had a dream.
- sorewa uindino youni seigino kokorowo motta hīrōni naru koto
- And that was to become a hero like the Windy with
- a heart full of justice.
- yanchamuga imayori zutto osanakatta koro,
- Long, long ago, the Yanchamu had
- ijiwaruna berobāni daijina kinomiwo ubawaresouni narimashita
- a precious berry almost stolen by a bullying Berobā.
- sokowo ippikino isamashii uindito hitorino torēnāga tasukete kuremashita
- But then a single, valiant Windy and a single trainer had helped them.
- tsuyokute kakkoii uindiga, yanchamuno akogareno pokemonni natta no desu
- That strong, dashing Windy was the pokemon Yanchamu wanted
- to be like ever since.
- katsute kokode shugyouwo shiteita to iu uindi
- Like the Windy that used to train in the
- same place long ago.
- sono uindiwa kaenhousha de takiwo waru to iu,
- hanarewazawo yatte noketa hodo deshita
- The Windy had even been able, in the end,
- to split the waterfall with its Flamethrower.
- yanchamumo itsuka takiwo wareru to shinji,
- The Yanchamu belived they too would be able to one day split it,
- mainichi seikenzukiwo tuzuketeimashita
- so every day they continued their seikenzuki.

- If the Yanchamu became stronger and evolved,
- uindi dewa naku, aku taipuno gorondani narimasu
- they wouldn't become a Windy but a dark-type Goronda instead.

- And if they became the fearsome pokemon Goronda,
- donnani ganbattemo kowagararete shimau kamo shiremasen
- no matter how hard they tried they might be treated with fear.

- Even so, in order to be a hero like the Windy,
- aratamete ketsui suru yanchamu deshita
- the Yanchamu redoubled their resolve.
- shounenwa otousankara tanjoubini moratta aoi sukāfuwo mitsumemasu
- The boy looked to the blue scarf his father had
- given him as a birthday present,
- sou suruto, yuukiga waite kuru kara desu
- because when he did courage welled up inside him.
- shounenwa sougankyou de yamano ueno houwo miwatashimasu
- He took a pair of binoculars and searched the top of the mountain,
- suru to, tsuini sagashimotometeita yanchamuwo mitsukemashita
- and when he did he found the Yanchamu he'd been looking for.
- yanchamuwa shounen no kehaini kizuki
- The Yanchamu felt the boy's attention,
- sasatto sugatawo keshimasu
- and swiftly hid themself.
- shounenwa shizenna mono de tsukurareta jimuya horaanawo miru to
- When the boy saw the gym made of natural materials and the den,
- yanchamuga sakihodomade ita kehaiwo kanjimashita
- he could feel that the Yanchamu had been there until recently.
- shounenwa akiramezuni sagashimasu
- He didn't give up his search.
- demo yamachamuwa ninjano youni miwo hisomemasu
- But the Yanchamu concealed himself like a ninja.
- boroboroni natteiru uindino posutāwo
- garatakuno gakubuchini irete, kazari naoshite agemashita
- [The boy] took the rumpled poster of the Windy,
- put it in a pictureframe from among the loose odds,
- and hung it back up for the Yanchamu.

- But even after night fell he didn't go home, not even for them.
- shounenwa yanchamuga meno maeni iru youni jibunno hanashiwo hajimemashita
- The boy began, as if the Yanchamu was in front of him, to tell his story.

- "On the way to that mountain there's the town where I was born and raised.

- "In order to get there, you have to go through some really narrow paths,

- "but some rocks fell and blocked the entrance to the mines, and
- soko de hataraiteiru hitoya pokemonga tojikomerarete shimatta n da
- "the people and pokemon working there were stuck inside.
- bokuno otousanmo tojikomerarete shimatta
- "My dad got stuck there too.
- saikutsujouniwa shokuryouwa mada aru keredo
- "In the mine they still have food, but
- sonnani motanai kamo shirenai
- "probably not very much.
- burudōzāga hairenai kara, kogata de powāno aru pokemon nara,
- "They can't get a bulldozer in, so if there was a small but powerful pokemon,
- minnawo tasukerareruto omotta n da
- "I think they could help them,"
- shounenwa aoi sukāfuwo mitsumete iimasu
- said the boy while looking at his blue scarf.
- kono sukāfuwa otousanga tanjoubini kureta n da
- "My dad gave me this scarf for my birthday,
- yuuukino akashino sukāfu datte
- "said it was a symbol of courage,
- dakara, kou yatte kokomade nobotte koreta n da
- "so that's why I wound up climbing up here like this.
- asamade matsu yo
- "I'll wait untill morning.
- sore demo, dame nara mata betsuno houhouwo kangaeruyo
- "And if it's still 'no,' I'll think of something else."
- asaga kite, shounenwa mewo samashimashita
- Morning came and the boy opened his eyes.
- yanchamuno chikakuni monsutā bōruga ochiteimashita
- A monster ball was sitting next to the Yanchamu.
- shounenwa yanchamuno omoiwo uketotte, sono bōruwo nagemashita
- The boy knew what the Yanchamu was thinking, took the ball and threw it.
- yanchamuto shounenwa isoide machie mukaimasu
- Then the Yanchamu and the boy hurried back towards the town.
- atto iu mani keshikiga sugiteikimashita
- and before you could say "ah" the scenery had passed by,
- saikutsujouni tadoritsuita yanchamawa,
- and the Yanchamu, having arrived at the mine drift,
- ookina iwawo tetsuno kobushi de hakai shite ikimasu
- set to shattering the large rocks with their Iron Fists,
- horisusumeru uchini, kogatano pokemonga deiri dekiru anaga dekimashita
- and as they tunneled in they opened a hole large enough for a small pokemon.
- tojikomerareteita ippikino berobāga tobidashite kimasu
- A trapped Berobā jumped out.
- taihen! ookina iwaga ochite kimashita
- Oh no! A large rock came down,
- iwawo nantoka sasaeta yanchamu deshitaga,
- and while somehow the Yanchamu was able to catch it,
- berobāwo miru to, ashiwo kujite shimatte ugokenai yousu desu
- when they looked at the Berobā, it seemed that their leg was broken and they couldn't move.
- konomamadato berobāga tsubusarete shimaimasu
- If so the Berobā would be squished.
- sarani iwaga kuzureta bashokara atsui onsenga fukitobashite
- And then, from where the rock had fallen, a hot spring erupted.
- yanchamuto berobāwo takino youni osoimasu
- It charged towards the Yanchamu and Berobā like a waterfall.
- shinka shitara kowagararete
- If they evolved they'd be feared,
- hīrōni narenai kamo shirenai to iu mayoiga atamawo yogirimasu
- and might not be able to be the hero,
- said the fears flickering through the Yanchamu's mind.
- "Yanchamu!"
- shounenwa chikaraippai sakebimasu
- shouted the boy at full force.
- (Dōn!)
- gorondawa subeteno iwawo katazuke, saigono hitorito ippikiwo kyuushutsu shimashita,
- The Goronda cleaned up the rocks and rescued every last person and pokemon,
- furikaeruto, saikutsujouno hitotachiga gorondawo jitto mitsumeteimasu
- and when they looked back the miners stared at them like "ji."
- gorondawa sono bawo tachisarouto shimashita
- They were about to flee from that place.
- suru to gorondani tasukedasareta hitotachiga hakushuwo shite kureteimasu
- But as they did, the people they'd saved burst into applause.
- otousanni nanikawo itte shounenga kakeyotte kimashita
- The boy said something to his father and then ran to them.
- teni tsuketeita aoi sukāfuwo totte
- He took the blue scarf tied to his wrist
- kegawo shita gorondano teni maite agemashita
- and tied it to the Goronda's injured paw.
- shounenwa iimasu
- The boy said:
- 「korewa yuukino akashi dayo」
- "It's your symbol of courage."
- gorondawa minnano hīrōni natte no deshita
- And that was how the Goronda became everyone's hero.
