  21.
  22. Personal Skills:
  23. Innocent Monster A
  24. In spite of the overwhelming odds, Aterui valiantly defended the Emishii’s land against Japan’s growing empire for numerous years. However, for the eras to come, Aterui was not remembered as the stalwart defender of the Emishii. Instead, his legacy was entwined with that of the Oni Akurou.
  25.
  26. Cornered Beast of Cavalry B
  27. A Skill not unlike Rear Guard's Pride. It's abilities scale, fortifying one’s capabilities in relation to the number of opponents present.
  28. For Aterui, the greater the opposition’s numbers are, the higher his AGI stat increases, maxing out at EX.
  29.
  30. Emishii's Faded Light A
  31. Aterui will always carry the memory of the forgotten Emishii, just as they will surely never forget him.
  32. Spawned alongside Aterui is a spectral equine familiar, manifested by the minute Mystery that comes from the Emishii's legacy. It is perhaps that this familiar is the combined spirits of the Emishii themselves.
  33.
  34. Oni-Type Demon C-

  44. For years, the Emishii’s forces pushed back against the forces of the Japanese Empire. In the first conflict between the “rebels” and Japan, Kanno-tennou’s forces were routed by the Emishii’s surprise assault. The cavalry pushed the enemy forces into the river, where many drowned and were forced to retreat.
  45. By mounting his stead and empowering his body with Mana Burst (Water), Aterui can replicate the outcome of this conflict. His body gains the properties of water, and his movements become like that of the flow of a river. The Noble Phantasm then establishes a phenomenon, interrupting the bodily flow of those in battle against him, and forcing their bodies to experience the effects of oxygen deprivation
  46. The prolonged combat proves draining on the target, ensuring their demise the longer the conflict goes on.
  47.
  48. Lore:
  49. Aterui is a figure who appeared in the late 700s, standing as the leader of the Emishii against Japan's expansion. Though he survived for almost a decade, he was forced to surrender against the forces of Sakanoue no Tamuramaro. It was his desire that by surrendering, he could at the very least act as an ambassador to the Emishii people, an outcome that Sakanoue no Tamuramaro desired as well.
  50. But it was not to be. Against Sakanoue’s advice and the code of ethics of the time, Kanno-tennou had Aterui beheaded.
  51. From that point forward, the people known as the Emishii faded into obscurity, and the once-valiant hero was twisted in folklore into a demon.
  52.
  53. Personality:
  54. Aterui holds the cherished values of a leader: proud, noble, honorable, etc. However, he isn’t himself a warrior, per se. It is simply the role he found himself in. As such, there are creeds that are simply not compatible with himself. Aterui does not entertain the notion of dying on the battlefield. It’s not a matter of honor or legacy, however.
  55. Aterui is a leader before he is a warrior. If he were to die on the battlefield, that would mean the end of his role. However, if he were to live, his role would continue, and even in the face of loss, he could still deter against a harsher loss that would occur in his absence.
  56. Towards the events of his life, he of course holds it as a grudge, but even though he has been demonized while Sakanoue has achieved an apotheosis of sorts, he bears no resentment towards him. Instead, he chooses to let the issues that lie in front of him distract from the world around him.
  57.
  58. Appearance:
  59. Aterui is a large, able bodied figure. The Emishii were referred to by the Chinese as the “hairy people” and Aterui proves true to that descriptor. Though his long red hair is a byproduct of Innocent Monster, his arms and slightly exposed chest and are bursting with hair.
  60.
  61. Wish for the Grail:
  62. Running through Aterui’s mind are countless possible wishes, and all of their benefits and drawbacks. Upon the initial knowledge of the Grail’s wish-granting properties, Aterui was initially caught between two choices: a second chance to hold-off Japan’s forces or a chance to seek negotiations earlier. However, those two choices were not guaranteed success. From there, Aterui deduced that his wish would simply be “the Emishii never lost to Kannou-tennou.” However, using a wish to alter the world is merely living a lie. He would trample over the accomplishments of Sakanoue, and by proxy countless others who were merely involved in the conflicts out of piety, much like himself.
  63. In the end, Aterui’s decision would be to wish for the prolonged memory of the Emishii. In particular, he has penned a hefty manuscript, detailing the culture of his people. Their language, their history, their names, and so-on. All he asks is that his Master publish the manuscript. The rest would be handled by the wish, ensuring the fame and longevity of this piece.
  64.
  65. Relationships:
  66. Sitonai:
  67. Aterui hosts a comfortable relationship with Sitonai, bonding over their camaraderie between Ainu and Emishii. But, Sitonai’s complicated constitution makes for communications a bit awkward.
  68.
  69. Oni Servants:
  70. The Servants who identify as Oni seem to look at him as a comrade. Better said, due to him being an Oni only through Innocent Monster, he is viewed as a mere subordinate, or as someone to push around.
