  1. There is no such thing as unified spoken Chinese language in Qing Dynasty or earlier. But they do had unified writing. Everyone spoke their own regional languages. Farmers or average citizens spoke their own regional languages. Only the rich business men, doctors, elitists, ruling class, 官 Mandarin (bureaucrats), intellectuals, etc., were bilingual or multilingual, they spoke the "court language" aka "pre-Mandarin language".

  3. Dawin Yip's theory is nothing new. It has been debated and refuted many times already if you were regular on those wonderful forums. His theory is nothing more but a fallacy. It's equally laughable if you believe the current Mandarin language is solely comes from Manchu only. No linguists or experts, will it be Chinese, Western or whatever would agree with you.

  7. Dawin Yip was correct on one thing, technically: "There is no such a language called Chinese". Because its real name is called Mandarin Chinese language.
