An ex-con reunites with his estranged wayward 17-year old daughter to protect her from drug dealers who are trying to kill her.
"Maybe some people need hurt." Link (Gibson) has just been released from prison and is ready to straighten his life out. When he receives a frantic call from his runaway daughter Lydia (Moriarty) he leaves to pick her up. After his home is attacked his daughter tells him everything. Now, fresh out of jail, Link must do whatever he can to save him and his daughter from people trying to kill them. Despite everything that has happened I am still a fan of Mel Gibson (in the movies). Because of that I was looking forward to watching this one. I was not disappointed. The movie is tense and action packed. Gibson, along with Costner, just have the personality that allows them to play someone that can kill but still be relatable and you feel emotionally connected to. That aspect really helped this movie. The entire time you know Link is a convict and knows bad people, but you can't help but root for him. The movie really hinges on the fact that you feel that way, that's why, to me, Gibson was the perfect choice. Overall, not overly original but the movie is full of action and very much worth seeing. I enjoyed this. I give it a B+.
Mel is back and better than ever. I had not seen him acting since The Passion and I heard he got into some serious trouble. Diego Luna, as usual is an amazing actor. I had never seen the actress but she did a great job. I'm not here to give spoilers but to say that finally a movie with a different plot with an unpredictable ending. Great acting across. I know some dads who would have done the same, blood after all. I loved the fact that it takes place in the desert area of California where many issues go unnoticed. I gave it a 10 due to its innovative plot and the great acting, even the scary lowlife dudes with the tattoos. They looked very real just as they are in real life.
The fading, erstwhile disgraced star’s grizzled, weary urgency gives this story some gusto and resonance, but otherwise, Mesrine director Jean-François Richet delivers adequate B-movie excitement only in spurts.
