- Home? What is home? Somewhere you live in, stay in, sleep in. A shelter that protects you from the weather and whatever may desire to harm you, the things that go bump in the night while you sleep soundly in your warm bed. Is that the true meaning of home? Or is it something else? A sense of belonging somewhere? Feeling safe and comfortable in an environment? Or is it something much more?.
- Silas wondered to himself in regards to that question, he suddenly woke up one day and was flooded by many voices and incomprehensible knowledge that he never knew until that exact moment and as quickly as those voices and knowledge came, they disappeared. He didn't know much about anything at all, he was new to the world and everything around him and as much as he didn't want to admit it, he's definitely lost. He didn't know what to do or where to go as he didn't have a place to stay in, him not having a place to stay in didn't bother him as much as not knowing where to go, he felt out of place, nowhere felt safe to him or as a "home". He was on his own to face this weird world that he's currently in, which didn't bother him one bit, instead it gave him the confidence to continue on, he can figure out where his home is while figuring out himself. That sounds like a long journey to start but Silas knew what he wanted to do for the time being, he had a sense of duty, the need and desire to protect. He might have needed the sense of protection when he first woke up but now he feels the need to protect others, it wasn't an overwhelming feeling to him, it just felt right to him and he knew the right place to go to for that.
- It was becoming late in the evening due to how long it took Silas to find the place that he needed to go to, the sun was almost completely set by the time he got to where he was headed. Silas slowly pushed the door open and walked in, the building was surprisingly quiet, there were people inside busy doing their job but it seemed like most had gone home or haven't arrived yet. Silas stood there, observing his surroundings which caught the attention of the receptionist at the front desk, who calmly asked him to approach. That caught Silas off guard, quickly turning to face the person that called for him who waved for him to approach again, Silas was a bit on guard as he hasn't spoken to anyone before, he only knew a couple of basic things like speaking and a bit of simple knowledge but having no experience in socializing made him nervous so he slowly went up to the reception who in turn asked him if he needed help with anything. Silas stared at them and didn't answer for a while as he was gathering up his words and trying to form a proper and correct sentence before responding, the receptionist stared waiting for a response for a bit, trying to give Silas time to answer but after him not answering for a couple of minutes, they asked him again if he needs help with anything. Silas got nervous again and blurred out a response.
- " j-job??" Said in a nervous tone which almost made his answer incomprehensible.
- " job?" Receptionist responded in confusion.
- " yeah! Job!..j..job...I'm..looking for a job here...this is...the right place..right?..." he answered anxiously, not knowing what else to say.
- The receptionist stared at Silas, confused by what he just said, they didn't know how to respond before they remembered something and started looking through a bunch of drawers and papers as they spoke to Silas.
- " I'm guessing you are new here? "
- Silas nodded in response without saying anything else.
- "Here, this might be what you are looking for, if you need any help filling out the paperwork, just ask. You can take a seat there and work on these, here is a pen, you can use pencil first if you would like with any unsure answers that you might have and I can review them with you before officially submitting them. "
- Silas took the pen and the bundle of paper work, reading through them as he went to take a seat in the reception area, he was flipping through them quickly, trying to get an idea of what they are. it was asking about information about himself that he needed to fill in, it was currently because he was new here and if he needed a job, he would need to do this. It seemed like a usual procedure around this area but he couldn't confirm that as this is the first building that he went into since he came to this place, Silas started filling in the paperwork with what he knew, if he was going to find himself a home, or figure out what it is then he had to do all of this. He was starting to feel a sense of purpose, everything felt right to him as he continued to fill in his paperwork, he knew that he was on the right path to where he wanted to go, if all things go well for him. Home might not be as far as he think it is, that is something that he is unaware of as he continued to work hard on himself, trying to figure out this bundle of paper, some parts were difficult but he still felt nervous about speaking so he decided to not ask for help even if he needed it. If he wanted to get the job he desired and find a place to belong in, a home to sleep in and feel safe in then he's just going to need to push through this, if he can't do this one thing than how is he going to answer the burning question inside of him. What is home?.
