PROSE WORKSHOP NOTES
- hardcore prose workshopping
- 15m break in the middle of class
- no class on labor day, yes class on columbus/indigeneous peoples day
- very minimal brightspace use. you post responses to each other's stories on there
- a lot of writing alone, and a lot of responding. respond to EVERYBODY in the class (14 works to read and respond to EVERY WEEK!!!!!)
- works are mostly up to our preferences (i'm JUST writing fiction lol)
- can Zoom for office hours (i won't lol)
- don't submit writing you don't wanna hear people talk about
- can swear (but i honestly wouldn't do that much)
- "If everybody likes your work, then nobody loved it."
- prose: writing that is not poetry (lines aren't broken up how poet decides)
- label your workshop piece as Fiction or Nonfiction
- moreso self-contained stories; COULD theoretically use part of a novel, but it has to stand on its own
- labor day week (will be posted on Discussion Board): write a story, 100 words or less. write it fast, don't overthink it. post it on Brightspace by September 5th. by Tuesday (the 5th, not tomorrow), read all of them, post responses on all of them (first takes, clear and helpful, writing not the writer). we'll read our own stories out loud. can be fiction or nonfiction (label it). attach it as a document
