- [18:59] Thorn finally slides himself away from Henry de Vir, a thankful nod. He had gotten what was necessary and with that, he could truly get into the groove of things! His hands clasp together as he looks to each individual student once- He.. Also didn't know the names of any of the students. Improvisation was truly needed.
- "Hey there." A hand rests upon his chin as he scans each face. "Lemme preface this by telling you all? Wayfinding is the finest art. It's also quite fun and is quite frankly, a novel way to get around." An easygoing expression, a serene smile.
- "But I will state that Wayfinding is also a meticulous art! It requires a very fine understanding of runes. It is a explicitly runic art. You'll require a medium in some way, so I truly recommend writing whatever you learn down!"
- With that out of the way? He ssits on the desk's edge, "Much of it is in patient imbuing, and slowly, slowly whittling it down to a series of shorthands you can invoke relatively quickly. Memorization is key, you do the hard work now so eventually.. It's all muscle memory and channeling. Got that clear? Any questions?"
- (Thorn Meztin)
- [18:59] With Eliphas getting comfortable in his seat, he shuffled his loose-leaf's on top of his desk as he reached inside of his backpack to withdraw a energy-inscribed pen.
- Raising his free hand, his palm facing forward. He flicked his pen around in his palm before pressing the tip against his cheek.
- "You say that Wayfinding is a meticulous art and requires a fine understanding of runes yeah?" he paused to wait for a reply before continuing. "Are we going to be having separate classes to learn everything there is? Or is it up to us as individuals to practice on our own and learn as much as we can from what you teach today?"
- Moving his pen away from his cheek, he rested his hand against the desk.
- "As for the medium, could you go a bit more in depth with that? Like, are you going to help us acquire one? Or are we going to have to make our own?"
- (Eliphas Aegeus)
- [18:59] As Alkina was ushered out the door, Thorn would continue to smile as he thumbed through his pages and pages of notes- The notebook was reaching the end of it's lifespan, strewn throughout were footnotes and margins full of trial and error equations and runes not-so-right. Torgon's arrival made Thorn blink, quite hard.
- "Oh hey pal..." He began, "Take a.. Take a seat, I suppose!- You're here for class ON Wayfinding, correct?" His throat cleared and he looked on towards another person... His class would not be stopped so easily!
- Yiras was addressed with a nod,
- "I will need to teach you the basics then, runewriting is used by the less-gifted of mages and those without much connection to their elements. Even if you choose NOT to learn the art of Wayfinding, runework can still help you achieve success within rituals, as well as more.." He purses his lips, "Arcane ways to impose your mana upon reality." Fingers wriggled through the air, an added mystique. "Even Ethric had his own fair share of problems when it came to learning Wayfinding as a whole." And so did Thorn, but he chose.. To decline explanation.
- He goes over to Eliphas, "This is just an introductory course! It's up to the students here to find out if they wish to learn more or not. They can come up to me out oof class and ask me for more time on the subject, or they can wait for me to announce another. In the end, go at your own pace. Alright?"
- The topic of mediums, a quick subject. "Some utilize tattoos, some even create weapons inscribed with runes that allows a whole new level of utility in combat! I first started with my trusty notepad! But I've also extended to teaching a living elemental how to do so, as well as have attempted tattoos of my own variety. It all depends on what you, the student, believe is best!"
- (Thorn Meztin)
- [18:59] "Basic runewriting is used by the less-gifted of mages..."
- The Aegeus thought outloud to himself as his pen moved swiftly across the page, it was something simple but nevertheless, something to write down.
- The pen glided, taking notes of everything Thorn had said prior and how they continued on. Notations of Wayfinding and how it requires a very fine understanding of runes, how it's an explicitly runic art and how one required a medium in someway in order to perform the task at large.
- Question marks filled that second as the professor had yet to explain it but he carried on, while making a mental note to erase the question marks once he was given an answer.
- After drilling down a couple of more notes, his pen clicked before he rose his head to look towards the creature known as Torgon.
- He paused, blinking hard, before turning to the professor and giving them a bewildered look. It wasn't hard for anyone to know that they were a creature of the Mire, and to add, a powerful one based off of their aura alone. One that sent shivers down his spine as the tiny hairs on his hair rose!
- But, the professor seemed fine with is so he tilted his head towards his notes to ignore it all.
- His hand moved once more, noting down that a medium could be utilized as a tattoo, or even being a weapon that's inscribed with runes. He underlined it and added an extra notation to the side with an arrow pointing back, saying 'Can be used to aid in combat!'.
- He continued on, listing the other varieties of a medium before raising his head once more to listen to the rest of what Thorn had to say.
- "Thank you for answering my previous question Mister." he said with a nod.
- (Eliphas Aegeus)
- [18:59] "As stated before, the lifestream is integral to Wayfinding! And also incredibly integral to the state of the world. Without it? The lands would grow desolate and even the spirits wouldn't be able to nourish the lands and allow plantlife to grow." He thumps at his chest as he reiterates, "It is dearly important to this world and to your lives that the lifestream is kept safe and left uncorrupted by mortal whims." He shrugs, "The esoteric and forbidden are labelled as such not due to their 'power' but simply because they sully the mind, the world and at times, the soul." The man wipes his hands clean off such a topic,
- he turns to look towards Vasil. "I'll have to state that I believe anything is truly possible! The sky is truly the limit as long as you can discover a way to achieve such. Waystones could be considered a temporary medium in which they whisk you away with, at times, the help of others! In essence, as long as you are able to have the runes someplace within your reach, as long as your mana can be used.. It'll serve as a proper medium." He nods ceaselessly as the Aertas, looking at them with a venerable amount of wonder.
- "Yes. Runes don't need to be unique and you can add layering into the mix in order to memorize a variety of more locales. When you record a location and save it to memory? You're basically transcribing the exact location at that exact point, in that exact place. You will always arrive there. Wayfinding is quite dangerous in that way, so you will need a different set of runes if you're trying to have distance and height change as well."
- Thorn slips a hand into his pocket- His OWN piece of chalk? A imperfect copy of a runic invocation was added. "Just what I've been taught, what I use in my own." A layering around a centray symbol, dropping and sliding in tiers to let the invocation flow under a subtree of ifs, ands, and buts.
- He points to a subcircle at the top, "Imagine this is where you are." His hand shifts downward, "And this is where you need to be- Or want to go. I suggest this is where most of you begin." Thorn turns back towards the class.
- "Your first assignment, if you choose to take up the art? Find your own medium. The runework you'll be taught.. Like this one." He jerks a thumb back towards the chalkboard. "Will be inscribed there."
- (Thorn Meztin)
- [18:59] Torgon quietly in his seat just looks to Thorn and the emotionless voice comes out.
- "Care to explain about 'A summoning ritual to summon nothing'. Ethric said for me to start with this but, I really don't have any clue on what he was about. 'To create an Anchor of most importance to you and summon naught'."
- A weird question but what do you expect from a Dullahan that is trying to learn a thing that..is mostly hard to him.
- His journal is filled with more information and runes, old drawings of circles he had done, will he be able to learn such ability?
- (Torgon)
- [18:59] Click!
- His pen glided across the paper, copying down Thorn's lecture word for word as his head lowered into his paper.
- There was moments that he'd raise his head to catch glimpses of Thorn's own imperfect copy of an runic invocation, he quickly mimicked it on a separate piece of paper. His writings mirroring the subtree of ifs, ands, and buts.
- A hand rose.
- "About the dynamics that we must take into account when using our own mediums, once we find our own and complete the first assignment of course, do we have to take account of the possible vectors as well? Or is that related to another manner?"
- Pausing, he pressed the end of the pen against his lip.
- "Also, where can we find Waystones? I'm asking because it could be helpful for, well. Finding our own mediums." laughter escaped. "I think it'd be interesting don't you think?"
- (Eliphas Aegeus)
- [18:59] Torgon's question brought an end to Thorn's nigh-endless rambling. "Ah..? Ethric has his ways. I believe he was trying to explain to you a different medium into which to apply the art." The summoning ritual sounded.. Quite abstract to say the least! The hard-math factor of Wayfinding seemed to be a bit more to Thorn's expertise. "I can imagine he was trying to give you a symbolic method. I would suggest hounding him for more details but potentially... Using your artificing skills." He assumed at least, they were the forgemaster, no? "Discover where you are first by attempting to bring about nothing at all." It was a guess, a theory.. At the very least? Thorn's more plausible theory of what that could truly mean.
- "It is far more integral that you write it down. Wayfinding requires patience and memorization. You'll need to create a shorthand of each rune eventually." Thorn smiled as he was referred as 'Uncle', he didn't know his brother had children- He didn't know if that was his brother's child either... He'd have to attack Thistle.
- "Ethric uses a mundane logbook, Henry uses tattoos. At the very least, it should be a rock capable of holding in such knowledge." He nods twice, "Yes. It's more or less acquiring the runes to help you triangulate yourself on the X-Y-Z coordinates and memorizing that." He cut himself off, there was a few more. "There are six circles that can help streamline the process."
- He looks towards the Aegeus and nodded again!! "Just trying to traverse the lifestream and bring yourself to somewhere you've never been before requires a lot of mathematics. Hard-math, at times even compensating for planetary rotation. Wayfinding is a dangerous art, you don't want to transport yourself into a wall, right?" His head cants, "Ensure that you teleportresponsibly and in front of someone practiced in the field." Himself. "Waystones are quite rare, I suggest searching for such artifacts in dungeons and the like. Anywhere where knowledge is precedent."
- Vasil was given a quizzical look. "While it is a precarious yes and I like the way you're thinking, you've definitely got the right idea! Although what would need QUITE a lot of effort, as it was very, very, very, very, very difficult for myself to even just.. Go towards the moon." He hummed softly, "Hm.. No, not really. Sorry pal. I only learned what I needed for Wayfinding." He was still not an artificer.
- "You definitely can! As long as it can trigger mana pulses targeted at each runic invocation. Anything. Can be a medium to use. Anything." He reiterates, reassures and sighs.
- "Any questions before I give my final thoughts?"
- (Thorn Meztin)
- 18:59] Click Click!
- He tapped away at the pen's end as his hand continued to glide across the paper. He flipped through the pages, looking back to his recent notes as he paused to make sense about the information all at once.
- It truly intrigued him as he thought about it. How wayfinding, a runic transcribed art that contained multiple, if not an infinity amount of theories and practices to achieve and perfect the runic-art. Theories were tossed back and forth as they were answered and delivered, ramblings swept the room as those who were truly intrigued stopped to ask questions.
- "So, from my understandings is that based upon knowing the necessary arithmetic's and runic writing that we must learn and memorize." he stopped as he craned his head to the side. "It practically sounds like learning how to wayfind is like learning another language if anything right? Just trickier since it has to do with mathematics and memorizing runic translations, along with having a general understanding of where you are within the world since it deals with the dynamics of your current position and the place where you wish to travel too."
- Raising his pen, he'd point it towards Thorn while waving the rune-inscribed pen about.
- "So in short, you need a medium. Something to power and channel your mana while writing down the correct coordinates on the current plane that your on right?" he theorized.
- "In addition to memorizing the complexity of the runes that is necessary to travel, you have to set a point of where you are at. In layman's terms. You set an opening in a current space in time before you, sort of like an entrance."
- A smile appeared as his freehand moved to cup his cheek as he continued on with his theories.
- "Once you manage to open the portal, with the series of complications that come along with making a proper point to open within space and reality." he took a breath. "I'm assuming that this is where it gets tricky."
- "Due to the fact that your entering from point A, let's call it, which I believe is the easiest part to accomplish. You'll then have to find the destination that you'll travel too. Which we'll call point 'B'. Setting point 'B' would be harder since your not there at that current place in time. However, it would be easier if you set an anchor there previously? Am I right?"
- "So let's go about that. Let's call these anchors while we are at it! So if we set an anchor, let's say in the sparring grounds, and set an anchor here in the middle of the floor. We imbue our medium with mana, choosing if it'll be a tome, weapon, or even a piece of jewelry based on what I'm understanding. You'll open a portal to something alike to the lifestream itself?"
- A frown appeared as he appeared stuck, not knowing what it'd be like once they'd enter the anchor's themselves.
- "What happens if half way through the transition, your unable to power your medium with mana?"
- "That's where I'm stumped at. Also, is my theory correct so far?"
- (Eliphas Aegeus)
- [18:59] As her questions were blown off to the side, she remained seated just listening into what Thorn had spoken about. It wasn't the worst case considering she had other means of getting her questions answered. She sat back, crossed her arms and waited it out, listening to other's questions and the material that was provided. Maybe because she doze off that it was secluded. She wouldn't have known!
- Towards the end of his rambling, he asked more questions. And she knew how to get him back! You asked for this!
- "Mr. Thorn, I've been having a little trouble with this question, and since math is related to wayfinding, I'd think you'd be able to answer this 'easily!"
- She clears her throat.
- "What is the definite integral of x(x^2 - 36)dx ???"
- It was almost an evil smile that crossed her face, just to see if he'd knew.
- (Sibyl Cirque)
- [18:59] A HERCULEAN TASK SURELY, FOR A SIMPLE MAN BUT THORN? ARITHMETIC GENIUS? BOY GENIUS? THE MAN WHO HAS TRAVERSED THE LIFESTREAM TIME AND TIME AGAIN? Sibyl's question was PUNY in INVERSE to his MIGHT.
- "Uh. Yeah sure." He starts writing, just in the plain air. "1/4(x^2-36)^2+C..." He whispers, he needed a bit more time on that question but- He was not going to stop the lesson now at it's precipice over the EVIL question.
- He looks to the Aertas, "Short answer is yes. What I just did moments ago is basically just writing things into a pen and paper. You can create all sorts of different shortcuts and tricks to get what you need but to do that you sort of have to know what you want already there's ALWAYS a 'long way' and a 'short way' in essence." He hums softly, "Well yes. Again. In theory, every single place could have been already memorized by a Wayfinder because at that verymoment? They could have simply memorized that position, so in any case, technically, you can go anywhere as long as you do the math to figure out where you wanna be- And not to paste yourself against a wall."
- He smiles, "Yes you may! In fact, I've done it before. It was my very first medium. Stars know the Spirit Realm far more than we do and if you wish for them to do the legwork, it's entirely possible and they will… If you have a strong connection to them."
- A glance given to Aegeus as he begins nodding along to their sstatement- They weren't wrong, they were doing their best. It was. Nice to hear. A smile continued to persist!
- "This leads back to my different ifs, ands, and buts. When you enter the lifestream.. You become 'energy' as you travel through the Spirit Realm. You'll know you cannot supply your medium with mana because it isn't taken away during the process, only before. Which is why you can send others through it WITHOUT you. But yes, you are right! It is far, far, far, far easier to use an anchor. It will take you quite a long time to solve- Unless you're truly a prodigy, gifted, a genius." LIKE HIMSELF. "Or... Just lucky, I suppose." LIKE HIMSELF.
- A bird BURSTS through a window and lands on Thorn's shoulder, he retrieves a letter and watches the messenger leave. He unravels the letter and stares at it.
- He repeats, "She misses me.." A look towards those in the room. "I think this is about all the time I have left." He nods, surely. "If you have any other questions, feel free to send me a letter or come find me IN MOXTLI."
- (Thorn Meztin)
- [18:59] Eliphas taps the end of his pen against the table as he ponders about Sibyl's question.
- Dropping his head towards the paper again, he continues to write down some more mathematics before coming to his own conclusion.
- "Is it 1/4(x^2 - 36)^2 +C?" he asked with a puzzled look.
- (Eliphas Aegeus)
- [18:59] Recollecting her thought process, it seemed Thorn had indeed answered her questions percisely, and frowned. It didn't take much for her to realize she was stupid and dumb and couldn't fathom humanity in the right way possible outside of being evil. She lifted a hand, and spoke.
- "I was just kidding! I- I- I'm horrible. I'm sorry."
- Looked as though he answered the question incorrectly, thus she went ahead and plucked into her satchel, a little shard of some sorts, and she tossed it over to him.
- "To make up what I've messed up. I don't know if you can use it, but you can find some use out of it. I donno' what to do with it anyhow."
- The shard looked rather abnormal than a typical elemental shard, and she never really studied it, thus she have thought it'd be a useful thing for him to have- For whatever reason it may incline in the future. She stood up from her desk and turned to the class and bowed. "I'm sorry to have wasted your time as well from my devious acts! Rest assured I pray you all forgive me, including you Thorn."
- "Oh and the answer is (x^4)/4 - 18x^2 + C.. If you all were wondering.. I'm horrible though. Ignore me.."
- (Sibyl Cirque)
- [18:59] Eliphas sagely nods as he moves to gather up all of his notes before binding it all together with a couple of clips and staples.
- (Eliphas Aegeus)
