Checkmate on Shuukichi's charm in only 5 moves!?

When he debuted in Volume 80, he quickly gathered attention as a Shogi player and the (ex) boyfriend of Miyamoto Yumi; some time afterwards we also found that he's Shuuichi's younger brother, too! His personality is so charming, and has now become a must-have person in the world of "Conan"!

When they were dating, Yumi didn't notice he was a Shogi player. That gap is also one of his charms!?

1st move:
A non-straightforward upbringing!

As a child, he was raised in the UK along with Shuukichi, and once he returned to Japan he became a Shogi player and was adopted as the foster son of the Haneda family. Afterwards he met with Yumi and began to win titles one after the other!

An upbringing worth a whole biography! What's more, he's previously met Shinichi, too.

2nd move:
An irrepetible genius Shogi player!?

A genius who achieved the 7 Crowns once! In the latest serialized episodes, he faces the culprit in a "blind Shogi" without a board or pieces. And he also scattered hints for Conan & co. performing extraordinary feats!

Miyamoto Yumi of the MPD Traffic Department is constantly on his head! And his goal of getting the 7 Crowns was for her sake, too! (Currently at 6 Crowns). It'd seem that Yumi didn't make the connection, but they're still dating and they intend to marry!!

When I went to see a Meijin Battle as part of my documentation process, I happened to meet the 6 Crowns Katsumata Kiyokazu, the pro Shogi player, I asked him to supervise the playing board surface (drawings), and I also got him to join me in some (planning) meetings as well! The surname of the former Meijin "Katsumata Chikara" comes from Katsumata 6-dan (laughs). Also, "Chikara" comes from Akutsu Chikara 8-dan (laughs).
