An enormous land to explore with new quests, new weapons, new armor, settlements and much more to find. A true DLC that naturally expands & adds beyond the Commonwealth further to the North in an area where Nuclear Winter... To start the main quest go to Thicket Excavations in the main FO4 map, find Quinten Grant. Or go to the top left corner of the normal FO4 map.

- ! Tips/hints for new players beginners
- # Taffington Boathouse has a combat shotgun.
- # Get the robot hacker perk, then hack KLEO (at Goodneighbor) to fight for you. She's a great fighter.
- # Save all the tape and glue you can, it's hard to find and is required for all mods.
- # Walden Pond has a sewer pipe. Go in there and you should find a good sniper rifle.
- # When you build settlements, build food first, then the power generator, then the settler beacan. When the settlers come they will auto assign themselves to food and defense, although sometimes not very logically.
- # On top of Four Leaf fish packing plant is a .44 pistol, fusion core, caps stash. But you still have to find ammo for the .44.
- # Find Dunwich Borer's Key: After you kill Bedlam, through the door. There will be many ghouls. Go through the door to the left of the orange forklift after the Bedlam mini-boss. Make an immediate left at the first circuit breaker out the door. You will find station 5 and eventually station 6. You will go up a bunch of stairs and find a body behind the locked door which has the key. And that's the path to get to the other side of the locked door.
- # East of Graygarden (the place run by robots), under an overpass, is a yellow chest with some goodies in it.
- # Once you meet Dogmeat the dog, go back to your vault, go to the cryolater, ask him to get it. You can get the gun, Dogmeat will now also have the ammo.
- # Sleep after you finish a quest, and before you get XP, to maximize XP you get.
- # Increase intelligence to maximize XP you will get.
- # Remove fences, tires, etc from a settlement to be able to build more houses, turrets, etc. See https://steamcommunity.com/app/377160/discussions/0/496881121380167910/
- # Remove fog. At console type 'setfog 0 -1'. This only removes "solid fog" not the swirling fog blobs at Far Harbor.
- # In the castle to remove the rubble to access the armory, hold v to turn on workshop, select the rubble, and scrap it.
- # When hacking a terminal, when you guess the password, it will tell you how many letters of your guess matches the real password, and the matches are positional. So CRASS matches COMES with 2 matches, the first C and the last S. So now we know the password begins with C and ends with S.
- # If a Brahmin bull wanders into your settlement, make a special Brahmin trough (the third item in Resources in the craft menu) in the workshop for him, and he will settle there. He produces fertilizer for crops. The trough on the craft menu is under Food, Misc.
- # Freedom Trail starts in Boston Common next to subway station. It was not on my map.
- # Increase settlement build amount: First you will need to pop over to the workshop contained within the settlement that you want to increase the build limit. Once you're right in front of it open up the cheats console. (Important - follow carefully!) With the cheats console open click on the workshop... a number should appear which is the unique ID for the workshop. Don't worry about that number just make sure you don't click on any other object. Type in the first command which is setav 349 99999999 then press enter. Type in the second command which is setav 34B 99999999 then press enter. Exit the cheat console and move away from the workshop. Enter the usual settlement building mode. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=659619384
- # National guard armory has 2 sets of power armor. One out back in a metal crate, one in a cement outbuilding which you must unlock from a terminal inside the main national guard building.
- !! How to fix armor
- # Find a yellow armor rack.
- # Walk up to the armor rack and put a bunch of items that contain steel into it using "R" for transfer.
- # While wearing power armor walk up to the center of the armor rack and exit the power armor by holding down "E". When you let go of "E" you will exit the armor.
- # Walk around to the yellow rack to look at it and choose Craft.
- # A window will appear with part of your armor. On the left side of the window will be the current hit points a slash, and the total HP for a piece of armor. With a piece of armor highlighted (do not hit ENTER or click it, because you will remove it from your inventory), choose "T" for repair.
- # You must have enough steel in the armor rack to fix things.
- # For some repairs you will also need circuit boards. For some upgrades you will need other things. For a headlight you will need 1 fiber optics.
- !! If game will not run
- # Whitelist the whole game folder and all subfolders in your anti-virus programs.
- # Close all other programs including browsers, except Steam if you need it. Some browser pages use a lot of memory and do other funky things and we want to elmininate variables that might pose a problem.
- # Update your video card drivers. For Nvidia, FO4 works fine with the Studio drivers. If that doesn't work, uninstall the Studio drives and install the NVideo game drivers.
- !! Set up supply lines
- # You need at least 6 points in the Charisma perks tree. And more than one settlement.
- # Open the craft menu by holding V. Now select a settler. Select Supply Line.
- # Choose a settlement for them to go to.
- !! Increasing settlers at a settelement
- # Put more decorations near their beds including carpets, lights, candles, etc.
- # Increase your charisma.
- # Put cat bowls and dog houses out to attract pets.
- # Do not assign robots at a settlement.
- # Reassign settlers from good settlements to somewhere else. Use Build menu to do this.
- # Wear CHA boosting clothing at night when you sleep.
- # Put at least 3 recruiting beaons in the furthest parts of large settlements.
- !! Farms
- These might make a good settlement as they have lots of food.
- # The Slog (run by ghouls)
- # Greenhouse
- # Somerville Place
- # Croup Farm
- # Graygarden (run by robots)
- Other
- # Sunshine tidings. Houses in a circle.
- ! Crafting tips (crafting weapons, workshop, etc)
- # Each workshop can hold items. I don't know the limit of the items though.
- # Scrap things like mailboxes but you can only do this within a certain radius of a workshop without holding them in your inventory.
- # To get raw materials outside of workshop range, collect them in your inventory, then approach a workshop, hit r to transfer items to workshop. You can transfer anything including weapons and armor and they will also be used for raw materials.
- # Collect deathclaw claws to make a super melee weapon. You need 3 deathclaw claws.
- # All resources/raw materials are shared between all crafting tables at one locatoin.
- ! Setting up Institute signal interceptor, beam emitter
- # Build the platform thing first. Now build the thing with 3 legs, which MUST go over the platform. It will snap in place. Make sure to have a lot of flat space to build like a house foundation.
- !! Notes
- # Some say the PC game is capped at 30FPS or less.
- # If you can't pick a lock and you have a 4:3 monitor, see here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/377160/discussions/0/496881136903870258/

- !! Nakano residence, getting keys to boat
- # Do an initial talk with the Nakanos when you first approach the house.
- # Search the household and make sure to find Katsumi's journal in her room, on her dresser by the window.
- # If you talk to the Nakanos before you find Katsumi's final holotape you can ask them questions but there is no option to find Katsumi and get the boat keys.
- # Then search the boathouse for the key to the save. Open the safe and listen to Katsumi's Final holotape.
- # Go back to talk to Mr Nakano.
- # Agree to find Katsumi.
- # You will then get the keys to the boat.

- # Ada can have a lockpick installed on her if you get the right level of perks. She can also have a hacking module installed. Ada will not judge you on things. Not real good at stealth.
- # Dogmeat will not judge you. Light armor for the dog has no armor value. He can find items and enemies for you (automatically). He will bark if he finds something important and you will get a message that says "Dog has found something." Look in the direction he's looking.
- # If you lose your dog or other companion just use fast travel. They will appear in your destination.

- ! Glitches
- These are often version-specific and often apply only to early versions of the game.
- # Infinite caps (in v1.02): Talk to Honest Dan (outside the yellow house) in Covenant to start the "Human Error" quest. Play through the quest until you meet with Dr. Chambers and reject her offer. Free the girl (part of quest; use terminal to open her cell). Next, talk to Honest Dan one time (only engage in the first set of dialogue options), and then walk away from him. Do not engage in the second set of dialogue options, as this will end the quest and render the exploit useless. Keep talking to him to get 300 caps every time. Repeat this as many times as desired. You can get 1,800 caps per minute/108,000 caps per hour. That is an even quicker way to get caps compared to the other caps exploit.
- # Infinite ammo (pre v1.02): Find a vendor with any type of ammo. Choose to buy all rounds of one ammo type (you may need to choose the top ammo selection) from the vendor, but do not confirm the trade. Sell back only 1 of the rounds you just bought, but again do not confirm the trade. Then, sell back all remaining rounds and confirm the trade. The one round of ammo will glitch and stay with you. Keep selling it back to the vendor until the vendor's caps are depleted. Next, keep buying back all of the vendor's rounds. Finally, buy any items desired from the vendor and accept the trade. You can then sleep for 24 hours and the vendor will have all their caps back. Repeat this process as many times as desired.
- # Infinite fusion cores: First, join the Brotherhood Of Steel, which can be done immediately after the game starts. You can join by going to Cambridge Police Station or just following the main story. Either way triggers the "Reveille" and "Fire Support" quests. Follow the Brotherhood's quest line until they make you a member. Then, complete their "Tour Of Duty" quest, where you will meet everyone on the airship. You can then pickpocket a fusion core (make sure you do not get caught) from one the Knights inside The Prydwen (their airship headquarters). Make sure to do this in a secluded area. Once you pickpocket the fusion core from the Knight, he or she will come out of the powersuit, replenish their fusion core, and re-enter the powersuit. Once they are inside their powersuit again, pickpocket the fusion core again. Repeat this process as many times as desired. Note: Quicksave after each successful attempt, just in case you get caught.
- # Infinite inventory space (no weight limit): To get unlimited inventory space for your companion, instead of trading with your companion, simply command them to pick up the item for you. Companions will never be overburdened using this trick. If your own inventory is too full, just drop some heavy objects on the ground and have your companion pick them up. This is especially helpful when you find some good loot but cannot carry more weight, or if you do not want to burden yourself with heavy weapons. This trick allows you to always bring some mini-nuke launchers (Fat Mans), rocket launchers, and mini-guns to fights without having to worry about their weight.
- # Flamethrower does not use ammo: Enter VATS with a flamethrower, select a target, and activate it. While shooting it, hold [Fire] and exit it while still holding [Fire] to shoot without using ammo.
- # Secret Alien Blaster Pistol: Fast travel to Oberland Station (under the bend of the river), which is a good distance southeast of Sanctuary. Once you are in Oberland, head directly east until you see a downed UFO on fire. There will be some green alien blood near the crashed UFO. Follow the trail of green blood up the small hill and down off the cliff and into the nearby cave. Enter the cave and kill the alien. Then, collect the Alien Blaster Pistol and the ammo for it on the body of the alien. The alien will have between 400 and 550 rounds of ammo for the weapon. Its stats are 70 damage, 100 fire rate, 149 range, 73 accuracy, 2.5 weight, and 1551 value. You can take the weapon to a workbench and modify the Barrel, Grip, Mag, and Sights. Since there is no other known way to obtain ammo for this weapon, you can change the Mag on it so it uses Fusion Cells. Note: The weapon damage will decrease by two points when changing the Mag to Fusion Cells.
- # X-01 Power Armor (full set) location: To find the full set of X-01 Power Armor, you must be Level 28+. It is located in the 35 Court (green) building, just south of Custom House Tower. Once inside the building, take the elevator up. Exit the elevator, and go right and proceed up to the next level. You will then encounter the Sentry Bot. Destroy the Sentry Bot, then press the button in the two doors to open the door with the Power Armor, in the middle of the room. You can upgrade it up to "Mk. VI" at any Power Armor station, which will further increase the armor rating. X-01 is the strongest set of Power Armor in the game. You are guaranteed to get the full set at this location if you are Level 28 or higher. If you are under Level 28, you will find a weaker armor such as the T-45. Thus, do not go there before reaching Level 28.

- Repair power armor:
- Power Armor provides a lot of protection and makes the game much easier. However, the armor breaks after a while and you will have to repair it at one of the Power Armor stations. The first station is found in Sanctuary. Repairs only cost steel, which is easy to come by. You have to go there while inside your Power Armor and put it near the station. Going there without your armor does nothing. Painting it in new colors does not just change the look, but it also provides bonuses such as increased charisma or perception. Upgrading it obviously increases the armor rating, but requires the Science and Armorer perks.

- ! Bugs and quirks
- # Bug list. https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Fallout_4_bugs
- # Parsons's sanitorium house (via Cabot quest), player needs a key in previous room before you jump down a hole in the floor, to get further. Otherwise game can glitch out at some point.
- # Fix bugs with this one mod. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4598, fixes here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/comments/4gb1mm/the_first_unofficial_fallout_4_patch_is_now_live/
- # Sometimes people talk all at once, like when you come back from a quest and finish it successfully.
- # Volume levels of some things vs NPCs talking, NPC volume can be too low and it's hard to hear them.
- !! Cannot find Emogene Cabot at Charles Ampitheatre.
- If you pass a charisma check, or even kill Brother Thomas to get the ampitheater key, and open the back room, Emogene may stil not be there. Follow these steps to mark the quest as done. This fix is for PC only, there is no fix yet for Xbox or PS4.
- # First go to Cabot house and stay outside.
- # Execute these console commands in this order: setstage 000503B9 70
- setstage 00022A00 705
- setstage 00022A00 710
- setstage 00022A00 720

- !! Long load times with SSD
- Some levels can take 60-70 seconds to load under Windows 10. Here is some more info.
- # Games take a while to load when loading an outside city scape, because it has more vertices and textures to load. Some areas take longer to load like The Fens and Financial District.
- # Info: https://steamcommunity.com/app/377160/discussions/0/412446890550175453/
- # One person reports that what actually helped lowering the loading time was playing the game borderless windowed,
- # Disable Vsync. (In video card driver settings?)
- # Find mod on Nexusmods that disables 3d models shown on loading screens.
- # Mod to speed up SSD by controlling vsync and CPU affinity at loading screen: https://steamcommunity.com/linkfilter/?url=https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10283 and https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10283
- # Disable all anti-aliasing.
- # Add this to all 3 fallout4 ini files in "mydocuments\My Games\Fallout4",
- put it under the "General" section: iNumHWThreads=X and uExterior Cell Buffer=64 (if it already exists just change the value) where X = the number of your cpu cores(not counting hyperthreading), but feel free to experiment

- ! Using Sim Settlements mod
- # Get holotape and ASAM sensors from Concord History museum. There are several boxes of ASAM thingies. Get them all.
- # In settlement/crafting mode, lay out a square of 2x2 floors.
- # Add a Sim Settlement exterior plot, which might be green in build mode. Add a plot on top of the 2x2 square, the arrow/triangle points to where an opening should be for the settlers. So this arrow would be the front of a building.
- ## Exterior plots have a power post. Power is not required for exterior or interior plots.
- # Interior plot: Will not cover whole 1x2 stretch.
- ## Interior plots have a radio power box.
