- You might ask why I am handing you a US Constitutions? Why? Because when I compare the freedoms I enjoyed as a young man and compare them with today’s. I am shocked and depressed, especially when I consider what my children and grandchildren will inherit, that is, if we don’t change this nations direction – now. Our government is out of control and in the process depriving of us of the rights guaranteed by our constitution. Until or unless more of us get involved and demand a return to our constitutional republic our government will continue to grow until it is replaced by a socialist or communistic system. Sadly as I write this there are many ignorant people demanding this very form of government.
- The only way this encroachment by our government can be stopped is when enough Americans wake up and read and understand the rights guaranteed by our constitution. What has happened while most of us Americans were watching television or doing our own thing, the government has stolen most of our freedoms. This has resulted in a transformation of our form of government from one based on law, to one of rule by man.
- One the greatest fears of our founding fathers was that this would happen to our nation. We now find ourselves confronting a government that is as bad if not worst than the one our founding fathers rebelled against in 1776. A government ruled by man – not by law. That generation sacrificed life, property and families so that we might enjoy freedom. Are we going to allow this to happen on our watch? Are we going to allow our children to live enslaved by a totalitarian government?
- There is an old adage, which says: “A people must, from time to time, refresh themselves at the well-spring of their origin, lest they perish” It appears to be that time!
- Contrary to what modern educators, politicians and news media experts who would have us believe, the constitution was not written for an agrarian society and is not outdated. It was written by some of the wisest and most intelligent men that have ever lived in this nation, men who thoroughly understood human nature. US Senator Albert J. Beveridge (1863-1927) said of those who wrote our constitution: “The American system was devised by the ablest group of men who ever appeared at the same time in the same country throughout the history of the world.” They truly understood what they were about, as John Adams said: “they were building a constitution and a system of government which would one day serve a population of between 200 and 300 million freemen.” Does this sound life someone that was ignorant of the future?
- The American people have enjoyed more freedom than any other people that has ever lived on this planet. This has resulted in the greatest nation in the world and the envy of the whole world. Perhaps that is the reason why millions of people immigrate to this country every year. This cannot be said of any other nation on earth, yet we have misguided leaders who would have you believe we should trade our Republic for a system of government that has never worked and never will – socialism. Those arguing for this form of government are succeeding only because most Americans are ignorant of what they have. The solution is to provide access to and encourage them to study and read and the constitution. Thus the reason for me handing out our Constitution.
- Unless we start now to study the writings of our Founding Father and return to the form of government they gave us, our children and our grandchildren will loose all the freedoms we have enjoyed. Believe me, this problem is real and is here today. It is not too late to save our Republic but it will take all our efforts now if we are to succeed. Please ponder the advice given by our founding fathers:
- “Be it remembered, however, that liberty must at all hazards be supported. . . cannot be preserved without general knowledge among the people. . . And the preservation of the means of knowledge among the lowest ranks, is of more importance to the public than all the property of all the rich men in the country. (John Adams. 1765))
- “Freedom can exist only in the society of knowledge. Without learning, men are incapable of knowing their rights, and where learning is confined to a few people, liberty can be neither equal nor universal.” (Dr. Benjamin Rush 1786)
- “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.” (Thomas Jefferson, 1816)
- “Though, when a people shall have become incapable of governing themselves and fit for a master, it is of little consequence from what quarter he comes.” (George Washington, 1788)
