  8.
  9. -----------------------------------------
  10.
  11. Drugo:
  12. Stern
  13. Military minded, thinks in terms of strategies and tactics all the time, can come out even in casual conversation
  14. Worried about state of imperials within reach, burdened by reports of deserters/rogues
  15. Reserved because thalmor presence in Imperial embassy, doesnโ€™t want to reveal too much
  16. 35-45 years old
  17. First found in Imperial Embassy
  18.
  19.
  20. -----------------------------------------
  21.
  22. [Player comes across conversation between Prince of Evermore an Drugo]
  23.
  24. Are you sure the treasury can withstand yet another expedition into this warped land? I hope you have the sense to fasten yourself here instead of out there.
  25.
  26. Forgive any offense I may have caused, Damian - I only wish to see your kingdom not be undone from your harm.
  27.
  28. I honor your willingness to commit yourself to helping your men-
  29.
  30. This land is a portent to tragedy, this kingdom has undergone such upheaval that any misfortune upon you could descend us into chaos.
  31.
  32. May the divines bless you on this venture, Damian. I will have our auxiliaries provide artillery support if you so need.
  33.
  34. [Player comes across conversation between Drugo and his subordinate officer]
  35.
  36. Our hands are tied I'm afraid, we've got another mess to deal with in Skyrim so the Bretons will have to fend for themselves. Let's hope they're sensible enough to not have this kingdom descend into barbarism on our departure.
  37.
  38. Immediately after this transfer is complete, we'll return to the embassy where we've secured the carts - having cleared the base of the arsenal we need - and then make way for the Divide.
  39.
  40. To deracinate ourselves after so many years have, despite how stressful it was to experience, feels disheartening.
  41.
  42. Crossed fingers - hopefully I can talk to command back in Cyrodiil, for our transfer to one of the fringe outposts in the homeland once we're done with Skyrim.
  43.
  44. Pessimism will be the death of you - yet I understand your disposition after having fought to improve a realm that doesn't reciprocate.
  45.
  46. Come, let's go and hasten this process - chef back at the embassy is preparing a fine farewell feast from what I hear, we don't want it to go cold.
  47.
  48.
  49.
  50. Our auxiliaries and a few of the town guard may be sufficient to clear the outpost, we just have to pray they don't send more through the ravine.
  51.
  52. Go meet with the officer stationed just at the ridge overlooking the lake. If you're still breathing, have a word with Arnimain lord for further work
  53.
  54. {The empire looking for mercenaries?}
  55.
  56. Ha, the empire doesn't employ the services of simple murderers and thugs, but if you're looking to serve Tamriel, then yeah we could use you.
  57.
  58. As you may or may not be aware, there's a significant Orc population to the west of our hold, it's not just a neutral party either.
  59.
  60. Scouts have reported that they've burnt down a small outpost and built around it rapidly, we fear that their expansion may reach Arnima and further.
  61.
  62. {We have the people to deal with them?}
  63.
  64. Our auxiliaries and a few of the town guard may be sufficient to clear the outpost, we just have to pray they don't send more through the ravine.
  65.
  66. Go meet with the officer stationed just at the ridge, overlooking the lake. If you're still breathing, find your way back to this outpost and I'll have a most generous reward waiting on the table.
  67.
  68. I hope you're one that honors a contract - which is a rare breed around here.
  69.
  70. {I do.}
  71.
  72. I'm sure, now don't keep my men waiting, may you have good fortune in the battle to come.
  73.
  74. {The Horde has been forced back...}
  75.
  76. My soldiers tell me of your skill in battle and have reported that you did what you were sent for, thus you'll be rewarded generously.
  77.
  78. Also, have a look at this, seems Mortifayne is in need of a mercenary. Apparently those witchmen up the valley ran with something very deer to him.
  79.
  80. Seeing that you've excelled in helping our forces with that assault, I'm sure you'll be more than enough for whatever he has in store.
  81.
  82.
  83. {Hey, what's happening here?}
  84.
  85. Huh, what backdoor did you enter through? Must be a master of stealth as well as battle.
  86.
  87. And for what we were speaking about; just making plans for transferring the garrisons over to the Bretons. Disorder in Skyrim calls and the Empire beckons us to be their vanguard.
  88.
  89. {You're leaving then I take it? Are you sure that's a wise Idea?}
  90.
  91. *Sigh* What else can we do here? It seems most are dead set in digging a deeper hole for themselves despite our best efforts. I know this is disheartening but I have faith that the Reach, without mortifayne, may fare a great deal better.
  92.
  93. That is, if someone less tyrannical is appointed by Sigmayne, instead of some doppleganger to the most recent lord, which has been a common theme in this land.
  94.
  95. In fact, I've heard Sigmayne's son; Damian, may just be the lord that breaks that cycle. We can only hope - such a merciful and boisterous leader may bring those sad sods out of that depressive stupor.
  96.
  97. Word is he's soon to give a speech to the people in raven spring - may want to go over there and see what he has to say. You never know, you could drop a word of advise to the prince that may forge a better future for this realm.
  98.
  99. {How important is the Reach to the Empire?}
  100.
  101. Important enough for us to have been entrenched in this swamp for centuries, and I have a feeling the value will be immeasurable in the immediate future.
  102.
  103. {Why is that?}
  104.
  105. You've heard about the Great war? Unless you've recently awakened from beneath a rock then I'll assume you have.
  106.
  107. Now most of our trade to high Rock was conducted by sea, with us skirting the shores of Tamriel all the way up to this province.
  108.
  109. You my be thinking "Why the long voyage when a trip through the reach would have taken a fraction of the time", well, that's how dangerous the Reach was, and is, for trade.
  110.
  111. Not to mention the crags and valleys that make up this dizzying maze, a nightmare for any unguarded or inattentive convoy.
  112.
  113. {You don't sound very thrilled to be here.}
  114.
  115. Keen observation, I wonder what gave it away.
  116.
  117. Just because we're not ecstatic in our stay, doesn't mean we'll forgo our duties here - so fret not.
  118.
  119. {Why are the Orc here anyway?}
  120.
  121. Isn't that the question we're all looking to answer - you'd think the Empire's multi-century stay here would have stifled racial tensions somewhat, but they just keep the old feuds going, with no signs of relief.
  122.
  123. These particular orcs who've sacked our outpost however - well that's an even more startling development that has no rational impetus, at least to our knowledge.
  124.
  125. They've dug themselves deep in the middle of the kingdom, surely knowing that we'll use any and all means to tear them out. It's not a question of if we're going to take back what's ours, it's when.
  126.
  127. There must be some deeper scheming at play here, maybe they intend to distract us from something that spells even greater bloodshed? Or am I imparting too much reason onto an ultimately fickle race whose sole priority is to conquer?
  128.
  129. {Most probably the latter}
  130.
  131. It's never good to underestimate your enemies, so I'll entertain the former.
  132.
  133. {Could be revenge for Orsinium?}
  134.
  135. Could be, yet they've had ample opportunity to act on that vengeful streak, seeing as it's been nigh 200 years since its razing.
  136.
  137. Though since the great war, we know that the crimes of our forebears will find us suffer the same indictments .
  138.
  139. Seems we're all locked into the past, and the future is forever beholden to history. Stagnation predicates itself on the adoration of yesteryear.
  140.
  141. {Well said}
  142.
  143. I'm not just a sheath - in times of relative peace I try to work on my humanity. Makes it all the easier to conduct diplomacy in this land.
  144.
  145. {How is your relation with this Mortfayne? What is he like?}
  146.
  147. If you're keen on following through on that bounty, then your first course of action is to keep your voice low and have your intentions clear.
  148.
  149. Mortifayne has a tendency to conjure agendas and plots where there aren't any - and strangers like yourself make the perfect suspect.
  150.
  151. He can be cooperative if you're candid, as we've attempted to be in the past - mostly to our detriment.
  152.
  153. He leaves us alone, largely, as we provide ancillary support for trade and arms. And we leave him alone to engage in his twisted method of politics.
  154.
  155. {I may just pass on this bounty then...}
  156.
  157. You've enough resolve to face Mortifayne if you had enough to engage those rampaging Orcs. Don't let my horror stories scare you from any potential fortunes.
  158.
  159. {How important is Deepcrag?}
  160.
  161. It's of principal importance, and not for reasons that are immediately apparent.
  162.
  163. Rather the value in Deepcrag has a more intangible aspect; Precedence. Deepcrag could consist of a shed and a bucket yet it would still make us irreducibly vilified if we had lost it.
  164.
  165. And that precedence is what we want to stay clear of, we don't want more daring opportunists to lunge at us when we are weakest. That's a situation that can cascade and destroy everything we've built here.
  166.
  167. {So it's about image..}
  168.
  169. Our reputation in High Rock is, at present, dismally low. We - Can not - lose further rapport with our Bretonic allies, they will find us more of a burden than an aid - and will seek to sever ties with us swiftly.
  170.
  171. So if we lose High Rock? What with what's going on now in Skyrim, well, we may as well lose the entire Empire. After all, what is an empire without its subjects.
  172.
  173. {What has been happening since those murders in Evermore?}
  174.
  175. Nothing noteworthy; petty disputes and all the entailing drama - I'm sure you're well versed in the reach's people so I wont need to divulge too much.
  176.
  177. Actually, come to think of it, events seem to be not as dour - like the kingdom is finally experiencing its boon. I don't want to get my hopes up but it really does seem different this time.
  178.
  179. Alas, we wont be here to relish in what may be - as we've already set course for skyrim.
  180.
  181. {No new threats from the witchmen? Orcs?}
  182.
  183. Again, nothing eventful - would have told you otherwise. Yet if you want something to chew on, we've had word from the kingdom of some of their serfs wondering north. Though not enough to cause a serious outcry.
  184.
  185. Looks like the absolute worst of the toiling masses are vanishing, which the nobility have been elated by.
  186.
  187. More for the treasury and less mouths to feed.
  188.
  189. {Where are they going?}
  190.
  191. There aren't many civilized spots north of the kingdom, and I'm damn sure an unarmed peasant isn't going to make it 10 yards approaching those witchmen.
  192.
  193. So we haven't sent anyone up there to find out, just not worth the hassle and we're already spent as a garrison.
  194.
  195. We should have been thrice our number, but the reach has weathered us down to a trifling band of injured and mad.
  196.
  197. {Surely we should know if the witchmen are increasing their numbers again?}
  198.
  199. We should, but my business has ceased here - you'll need to direct those concerns to the Bretons, as you know, the serfs should be their immediate concern. Imagine a kingdom without their serfs, Evermore especially - would collapse in an instant.
  200.
  201. If you hear any of the down-trodden rambling the same as those witchmen, then that will be a major cause for concern.
  202.
  203. Until then however, enjoy these somewhat peaceful days we've been graced with.
  204.
  205. {Who's going to be taking over you when you leave?}
  206.
  207. That would be a man named Vaeser; he has residence within the capital itself. He's not one to hear out every petty request so make sure any appointment you have with him is of utmost urgency.
  208.
  209.
  210.

  302. You can't hide forever fool, we will find you.
  303.
  304. [PLANS FOR FURTHER DIALOGUE]
  305.
  306. {Player asks drugo how important deepcrag was to the empire. Drugo says it's about the precedent and that not acting on the situation will further prove that the empire is impotent in High rock. Leading to another lost province (potentially).}
  307.
  308. {Player asks drugo what has happened since you left to rejects respite, he says not much except the repairs around the kingdom coming around. That they informed Evermore of their departure and that Vaeser should take over administration. He should tell you of strange things happening to serfs, that some have vanished from their fields}
  309.
  310. {Player should ask drugo why they're leaving, and how dangerous and volatile their lack of presence is.}
