  1. They were good burgers, however Jack had grown silent, in truth everyone had. The Burger Meister fast food joint clearly only had the one guy working there; and when he brought out the food one thing stood out rather painfully obviously. There was a chain around the man's leg, held on by a large metal cuff like from a medeval dungeon; the chain its self however ghosted into the floor, like it was just phasing as the man walked. They all stared at it, the man picked up their confusion and explained it was his chain, that he didn't notice it most of the time and it only tugged on him if he tried to walk out the door. Jack questioned this but...that's all there was to it, the man just said it had always been there from the moment he arrived there. On the one hand he's grateful as it seems to mark him as an employee so none of the "demons" as he keeps describing them mess with him provided he does his job. However there was a sadness to his voice that prevented them from pressing for any more questions. That and the clock told them it was late, if night came like day did here, they'd have no warning, no creeping shadows; and if caught outside in the dark they'd be at the mercy of the bug creatures disguised as a man hiding under their trailer. But waiting here didn't appeal them either, the guy was mostly silent and kept stareing at them when he thought they didn't see him. Making them very nervous.
  2. "What ever we do," says Jeff, looking at his watch, "I think the sun...turned on, right when dawn was supposed to happen, so if night does the same thing we have three hours to decide."
  3. He leans over whispering, "and I don't think we should stay here, seriously, some guy, by himself with a fucking shackle on his leg telling us somebody owns this whole block and will send something to take care of the bugs...yeah we know they don't enter the light...but all it would take is this kid turning the lights off from the back...think about what he said when we got here; either this kid aint right, this place aint right, or both."
  4. "So what do you suggest we do?" asks Jack
  5. Jeff *nods* towards the motel, "I think we should check that out, see if they have some weapons, or fire extinquishers, chase that monster out from under the van into the sunlight and hope its like a vampire...he stops as Mary is pointing out the window. The trenchcoated figure, is standing in the middle of the well lit parkinglot, in broadday light his features are clear, his coat, hat, boots, and gloves are like chewed up bark, his face clearly a swarm of stick bugs trying to fold into human eyesockets and wide mouth shapes. It seems to be standing there staring at them before walking across the street to the gas station and going inside.
  6. "It...they...never," stutters Jeff.
  7. "Stick Bug men," says the guy behind the counter coming out, "can't hurt you in the light, nothing stops them from walking around in it. They must have realized what side of the road they were on and fled for their own safety. A few more hours and the big preds would be out, although I'd avoid that gas station if I were you, its does the flickering light thing."
  8. "That doesn't make sense, why would it not be able to attack us in light if it can walk around in it like that?" starts Jack.
  9. "What part of any of this makes sense?" asks Mary.
