Vernestra was halfway through Twenty-Seven Meditations for Clarity when Sylvestri Yarrow walked into the main sitting room on the floor they’d been given in Xylan Graf’s tower. Vernestra felt the exact moment when the girl spotted her, because Syl’s sleepy haze evaporated and a keen sense of dread emanated from the girl. No wonder Syl was worried about Jedi reading her mind. She projected her emotions like a holo. It didn’t take the Force to see what she was thinking; just a glance at her dark face was more than enough.

Vernestra uncrossed her legs, letting go of the Force so she could place her feet on the plush carpet of the sitting area without forgetting how to stand.
