  1. 6:07 PM] Pillowcase: i'm not sure i completely understood what you were after, though
  2. [6:07 PM] olivinearc: i think that's a big issue, the gap between me and the rest
  3. [6:09 PM] Pillowcase: is your gist that charlotte is lacking a personality?
  4. [6:10 PM] olivinearc: that might be one way to put it
  5. [6:10 PM] olivinearc: the way i view her is that she has an interesting symbolism on paper but in execution doesn't make sense
  6. [6:10 PM] Pillowcase: define symbolism
  7. [6:11 PM] olivinearc: that's basically all she has right now
  8. [6:11 PM] olivinearc: see at how dei describes her, or what noelle mentions liking about char
  9. [6:11 PM] olivinearc: her aloneness, the play on agency, this giant brooding figure who talks slow with a lot of ellipses
  10. [6:12 PM] olivinearc: now consider her in the context of a day to day while the plot still has to warm up, how she handles her time, the works
  11. [6:12 PM] olivinearc: what she brings to the table in terms of being the "villain" of swt and what she encapsulates
  12. [6:13 PM] olivinearc: the fact that if she's to interact with diana at all she'd most likely give off a total school shooter vibe bc dei says that as a default charlotte is this giant batman brooding figure without any give
  13. [6:13 PM] olivinearc: when i hear "well charlotte just has this very intense presence and diana is sucked right in and infatuated helplessly by the sheer pressure" i can't help but scoff
  14. [6:16 PM] Pillowcase: mm, i think i see what you mean, but i'm not sure i see what makes you go for a complete reworking?
  15. [6:16 PM] Pillowcase: since the solution as i see it would mostly be to add traits and conceptualise how she'd function without the setting of vampires and demons
  16. [6:17 PM] Pillowcase: or am i completely off the mark here
  17. [6:18 PM] olivinearc: that might be the solution tbf
  18. [6:19 PM] Pillowcase: who's going to be writing her in her various appearances
  19. [6:20 PM] olivinearc: dei as i oversee it all
  20. [6:20 PM] Pillowcase: is dei also handling her path
  21. [6:20 PM] olivinearc: mhhm
  22. [6:20 PM] olivinearc: which i've asked her the logistics of, should've been in the pastebin
  23. [6:20 PM] olivinearc: and they just don't pass a second look over
  24. [6:20 PM] Pillowcase: yeah i remembered something about it but it's kinda foggy for me rn
  25. [6:21 PM] Pillowcase: think i read that part yesterday
  26. [6:21 PM] Pillowcase: but okay
  27. [6:21 PM] olivinearc: stuff like "well the first meeting would just be them stumbling upon each other and staring intensely for a moment before moving on"
  28. [6:21 PM] olivinearc: that's so anime. a little too anime.
  29. [6:22 PM] Pillowcase: in fairness swt is very anime
  30. [6:22 PM] olivinearc: which is saying something if i say something is too anime!!
  31. [6:22 PM] Pillowcase: hee
  32. [6:23 PM] Pillowcase: but yeah i mean that appearance needs a little more flesh to the bone
  33. [6:23 PM] olivinearc: char feels so incorrigible currently
  34. [6:23 PM] Pillowcase: are you against charlotte being kinda standoffish?
  35. [6:23 PM] Pillowcase: actually that trait would make her kinda similar to madi wouldn't it
  36. [6:23 PM] olivinearc: i don't think inherently, bc swt is staunchly anti-isolationist, but it might need more nuance to it
  37. [6:24 PM] Pillowcase: oh, sure
  38. [6:25 PM] Pillowcase: what do you put into "incorrigible" when you say charlotte's that
  39. [6:27 PM] olivinearc: just that she's this constantly brooding figure that feels larger in life in an inefficient way. there's no sense of humanity to her, which i think dei mentioned was sort of intentional as she loses anything that people can grasp onto in the main route, but like, someone you just can't budge a conversation out of. nothing stimulating or entertaining, and thus not very satisfying to discover her as the big bad
  40. [6:28 PM] Pillowcase: mhm
  41. [6:28 PM] Pillowcase: that makes sense, i think
  42. [6:28 PM] Pillowcase: but it raises the question of what would make her a "satisfying" villain
  43. [6:29 PM] Pillowcase: i feel like some kind of "hard to approach" thing would work for her, though, but you could have her be softer at the core? thus making it kind of a double twist when she's revealed to be the killer
  44. [6:32 PM] Pillowcase: softer in the sense that she has claws out initially when meeting people but maybe di does something she likes or helps her in some way and she gives di a gift in person or something
  45. [6:32 PM] Pillowcase: idk i'm just spitballing but
  46. [6:32 PM] olivinearc: right right
  47. [6:32 PM] olivinearc: i know for sure that i don't want her to be like yv's arch nemesis or something
  48. [6:33 PM] Pillowcase: that would definitely cement her as a villain in romcom logic, yeah
  49. [6:33 PM] Pillowcase: bit over the top
  50. [6:34 PM] olivinearc: right
  51. [6:34 PM] olivinearc: i kinda like the idea that di interacts with char even knowing that she's trouble, or a murderer or something but just
  52. [6:34 PM] olivinearc: honestly idk at all
  53. [6:35 PM] Pillowcase: well you could solve that in two ways
  54. [6:36 PM] Pillowcase: one, di gets a thing for bad girls, or two, char gets a more personal connection with di before the Event
  55. [6:36 PM] Pillowcase: or both admittedly but
  56. [6:37 PM] Pillowcase: i think it's worth keeping in mind that not everyone's going to cancel or bail on someone just because they know they did something bad
  57. [6:38 PM] Pillowcase: and as you said in the bins di's already hanging out with and sexing up other murderers
  58. [6:39 PM] olivinearc: right, it's more the
  59. [6:39 PM] olivinearc: avoidance of the idiot ball is preferred
  60. [6:41 PM] Pillowcase: hence, bond
  61. [6:42 PM] Pillowcase: though that means leaving room for that in the overall narrative, for all routes
