  1.
  2. Toska - Today at 2:51 PM
  3. My ckey is just Toska and I'm ready to start now
  4.
  5. Flamingo - Today at 2:51 PM
  6. Perfect. Before we start, I'll tell you what powers you'll have as a Trial Moderator. If you have questions, feel free to ask me at any time.
  7.
  8. Toska - Today at 2:52 PM
  9. Alright
  10.
  11. Flamingo - Today at 2:54 PM
  12. As a Trial Moderator, you can:
  13. StaffPM (bwoink)
  14. Check and create notes (a system for noting down incidents)
  15. Check and create warnings
  16. Temporarilly server and job ban
  17. Wind players (admin-freeze them)
  18. Defuse welder bombs by clicking them while ghosted
  19. AdminGhost, which lets you ghost around as if you were dead, but jump back to your body afterwards
  20. Oh, you also have access to VAREDIT, but only to check variables. You can't actually edit them.
  21.
  22. Toska - Today at 2:56 PM
  23. Alright, I assume adminghost is what you use to go check on something if you get ahelped?
  24.
  25. Flamingo - Today at 2:56 PM
  26. Exactly. It works exactly the same as when you're ghosting normally, but you can re-enter your body on command.
  27.
  28. Toska - Today at 2:57 PM
  29. Alright, that's good cause I was wondering just exactly how you check stuff if you're playing haha
  30.
  31. Flamingo - Today at 2:57 PM
  32. Yup! Ready to begin?
  33. Do you have any questions before we start?
  34.
  35. Toska - Today at 2:58 PM
  36. I don't right now, but if I think of any during the interview am I allowed to ask?
  37.
  38. Flamingo - Today at 2:59 PM
  39. Of course.
  40.
  41. Toska - Today at 2:59 PM
  42. Awesome, alright I'm ready to go
  43.
  44. Flamingo - Today at 2:59 PM
  45. Perfect!
  46. First question, a player joins with the name "Donald J. Trump". Jumping over, you see a bald, 30 year old assistant. A quick check on their account shows you that it's only 2 days old. What do you do?
  47.
  48. Toska - Today at 3:01 PM
  49. I would pm them and kindly suggest they take a peek at the server rules (providing a link if needed) and let them know that they will need to change the name as it goes against naming rules
  50.
  51. Flamingo - Today at 3:02 PM
  52. You shoot them a PM, but they don't seem to respond, instead heading off of the centcomm shuttle and walking around, picking up an oxygen tank from one of the emergency lockers.
  53.
  54. Toska - Today at 3:03 PM
  55. I'd try to contact them one more time. If I don't get a response I would wind them and see if I get a response from them then
  56.
  57. Flamingo - Today at 3:05 PM
  58. They walk around for another moment, hitting themselves once with the oxygen tank before you wind them. When trying to PM them again after the winding, the game tells you that they've disconnected.
  59.
  60. Toska - Today at 3:06 PM
  61. Do they reconnect after a while?
  62.
  63. Flamingo - Today at 3:06 PM
  64. They don't seem to be coming back.
  65.
  66. Toska - Today at 3:07 PM
  67. I'd put a comment on their notes about what happened. I don't take it I can do anything about the SSD body correct?
  68.
  69. Flamingo - Today at 3:07 PM
  70. You can't, but you can always ask an admin for help.
  71. They have the powers to deal with SSD bodies. Even full mods can't handle that.
  72.
  73. Toska - Today at 3:08 PM
  74. Alright, I'd probably ask an admin if they can remove/move/rename the body in this case if it didn't seem like they were coming back
  75.
  76. Flamingo - Today at 3:09 PM
  77. Alright. Anything else you'd like to do or shall we move to the next question?
  78.
  79. Toska - Today at 3:10 PM
  80. I think that's all I'd do with this situation, yea
  81.
  82. Flamingo - Today at 3:10 PM
  83. Alright. On to the next question, then.
  84. You're playing a round, minding your own business when you get an ahelp:
  85.
  86. Request for help: Bob Kliener/(DarknessRises123) (DIBS) (JMP): "WTF I JUST GOT GANKED"
  87.
  88. Jumping over to the ahelp, you find that an engineer has just beheaded a scientist. What do you do?(edited)
  89.
  90. Toska - Today at 3:13 PM
  91. I'd ask DarknessRises to give me a little more information to what happened while I check combat logs. I'd also shoot the engineer a message and ask them why they've done that.
  92.
  93. Flamingo - Today at 3:15 PM
  94. The Scientist, Bob Kliener (DarknessRises123), tells you they were sitting in RnD doing science stuff when the engineer walked in and parapenned them, before dragging them into maintenance and beheading them with an energy sword. The combat logs back this up. The Engineer says they killed the Scientist because they kept trying to talk to them at the desk, and they kept getting ignored.
  95. It's also immediately apparent that the engineer is a traitor.
  96.
  97. Toska - Today at 3:19 PM
  98. I'd remind them that this is a heavy roleplay server and that as an antag they are meant to promote rp and keep things interesting and fair for others as well. I'd also state that killing the scientsit in such a manner over being ignored is an improper escalation of violence and actually goes against one of the server rules. If I check their notes/warnings do I find anything?
  99.
  100. Flamingo - Today at 3:20 PM
  101. The engineer says they kept trying to RP with the scientist, but they kept just walking around and not ever responding to them, so they decided to just go for the kill. In their notes, you see they have a previous warning for gunning someone down with little reason during a round of mercenary.
  102.
  103. Toska - Today at 3:24 PM
  104. I'd check with the scientist about ignoring the engineer and the reasoning for this. However, I'd restate with the engineer that conflicts should escalate naturally even as antag. Is there a warning system? (I.e lesser to greater)
  105.
  106. Flamingo - Today at 3:24 PM
  107. There's the option to make a warning 'severe'. It makes it a darker color and it lasts for an extra month on their record before expiring.
  108. The scientist said he was very busy and just didn't feel like talking to the engineer.
  109.
  110. Toska - Today at 3:30 PM
  111. Alright, I would give the engineer a basic warning (seeing as they are a repeat offender) and explain to them why. I'd put down in the notes what happened as well, and suggest to them that in the future if one rp doesn't play out (such as this situation) to perhaps try again elsewhere instead of forcing it in such a manner.
  112.
  113. Flamingo - Today at 3:30 PM
  114. Alright, anything else you'd like to do?
  115.
  116. Toska - Today at 3:32 PM
  117. If I'm not playing the round I might keep an eye on them to see if there are any other incidents, otherwise no I don't think so.
  118.
  119. Flamingo - Today at 3:33 PM
  120. Alright, let's move onto the next question, then.
  121. You connect to the server as the only staff member and are immediately met with an onslaught of logs.
  122. "James Hunt has attacked Kyle Omas with the wrench!"
  123. "Kyle Omas has attacked James Hunt with the butterfly knife!"
  124. A quick check on their status indicates that neither one of them are antagonists. What do you do?
  125.
  126. Toska - Today at 3:34 PM
  127. I'd wind them both and ask them what exactly has happened.
  128. I'd also check notes and warnings to see if anything comes up on either of them
  129.
  130. Flamingo - Today at 3:36 PM
  131. James Hunt, is a cargo tech with a wrench. He says he was trying to get the engineer to fix some windows in his department, and the engineer refused, and it escalated to fighting from there. Kyle Omas, the engineer with the butterfly knife, said he was walking through the halls when the cargo tech started verbally harrassing him, before pushing him over, so they started fighting.
  132. The cargo tech has a note from about a month before about being overly aggressive, and the engineer has no notes.
  133.
  134. Toska - Today at 3:38 PM
  135. Would I be able to see the combat notes from before I logged in, from when it began, to see if the Cargo tech did in fact start it?
  136.
  137. Flamingo - Today at 3:38 PM
  138. Yeah you can see combat logs before in the variables.
  139. Checking the combat logs, you see that the cargo tech used disarm intent twice on the engineer, before the engineer grabbed him and threw him away. Then the logs show the cargo tech hitting the engineer with a wrench, and the engineer hitting the cargo tech with the butterfly knife. They're both pretty hurt from the fight, but the cargo tech is significantly worse off.
  140.
  141. Toska - Today at 3:44 PM
  142. Makes sense, cutting versus blunt. I'd explain to the cargo tech that escalation of violence needs to be realistic and that characters should be trying to avoid pain whenever possible. I'd also ask the Engineer why he's carrying around a butterfly knife. (Do they continue to die/take damage when winded btw?)
  143.
  144. Flamingo - Today at 3:45 PM
  145. They continue to take damage, yes.
  146. The cargo tech says they were just trying to get some windows fixed that had broken due to a spider infestation, and that the engineer was being patronizing towards them, so they pushed him over. The engineer says they had built a butterfly knife because they were scared they might get attacked, and they felt safer with one.
  147.
  148. Toska - Today at 3:58 PM
  149. I'd state that the jump from pushing to assault is still too drastic. I might suggest alternatives if given the time, but since they are currently dying I'd have to keep it short. I'd also tell the engineer that they shouldn't be creating makeshift weapons, especially "just in case" as it comes off as metagame-y. I'd remind them of the setting and how IC their character shouldn't be breaking corprate regulations over a "what if". I'd give the cargo tech a warning and put a note on both of them of what occured.(edited)
  150. Flamingo - Today at 3:58 PM
  151. Alright, anything else you'd like to do?
  152.
  153. Toska - Today at 3:59 PM
  154. If it seems like they are going to cooperate I'd unwind them and let them on their way.
  155.
  156. Flamingo - Today at 3:59 PM
  157. Cool, ready for the next one, then?
  158.
  159. Toska - Today at 4:00 PM
  160. I think so yea
  161.
  162. Flamingo - Today at 4:01 PM
  163. You're playing in a round of mercenary, but you're managed to avoid conflict throughout the entire round. Suddenly, you get an ahelp,
  164. Request for help: The Dark One/(Jsdx423) (DIBS) (JMP): "help this engineer is powergaming us"
  165. Jumping over, you find an engineer with a makeshift shotgun and slugs, fighting the mercenary team. He appears to be winning. Two of the mercenaries are dead, one is in crit, and one is still fighting. What do you do?
  166.
  167. Toska - Today at 4:03 PM
  168. I check attack logs and ask them for details as to what has happened. I'd also check them for notes/warnings.
  169.
  170. Flamingo - Today at 4:05 PM
  171. It's hard to tell what happened from the attack logs. It's clear that the engineer opened fire on the mercenaries first, but the mercenaries have a lot of attack logs from earlier in the round. The dead mercenary who ahelped says that they were trying to kidnap another engineer by EVA, but the one in question started killing them.
  172.
  173. Toska - Today at 4:08 PM
  174. Does it look like the engineer has been fortifying the area and has taken a defensive position rather than an offensive one?
  175. I'd ask the engineer for his side of what is going on as well, of course(edited)
  176.
  177. Flamingo - Today at 4:10 PM
  178. The engineer is fighting from that area outside the foyer in the hallway, and the mercs are by EVA. Engineering itself is pretty fortified, but he has to step outside to see down the hall and shoot at them. The engineer puts the last merc into crit before falling over. He says that he was just trying to help his friend who was being kidnapped by the mercs, another engineer that's currently hiding in the foyer now.
  179.
  180. Toska - Today at 4:19 PM
  181. I'd tell the engineer that while wanting to defend a friend is fine, their character shouldn't be creating weapons and openly gunfighting the mercs like that, as what they did is in fact powergaming. I'd expain that it states in the rules that characters should be practicing flight over fight as well, and they should have run instead of gunning down the antags.
  182. Is there anything in the notes/warning for the engineer?
  183.
  184. Flamingo - Today at 4:20 PM
  185. The engineer has a previous note about powergaming from several months before, and a more recent warning from only two weeks before.
  186.
  187. Toska - Today at 4:26 PM
  188. If that's the case I'd probably temp server ban them, as they've clearly been talked to about this twice and have continued the behaviour. Do you set the ban time? If so probably just minimum amount, so as not to escalate it drastically. I'd put a note of this (unless it logs on its own)
  189.
  190. Flamingo - Today at 4:27 PM
  191. You set the time, yeah. By default it's a day, but you can range it anywhere from 1 minute, to... well, I don't know if there's a limit.
  192. And yeah, warnings and bans both have an attached note that is visible to the recipient, as well as a staff-only note portion.
  193.
  194. Toska - Today at 4:29 PM
  195. Oh! Alright then scratch the part about me making a note of it course.
  196.
  197. Flamingo - Today at 4:29 PM
  198. No worries, I know what you meant anyways.
  199.
  200. Toska - Today at 4:31 PM
  201. Alright cool. I'd probably just stick to default ban then
  202.
  203. Flamingo - Today at 4:31 PM
  204. Alright, sounds good. We're almost done. This next question is more of an OOC question.
  205. If you could change anything about the staff or server, what would you change?
  206.
  207. Toska - Today at 4:37 PM
  208. Oof, that is a tough one. I don't want to sound like I'm kissing ass (pardon my language) but I don't have much trouble with the staff or server. I think the only gripe I've got is when ahelping it feels like you don't get much resolution. Maybe some of the midi fuckery, but that's not a very big thing either
  209.
  210. Flamingo - Today at 4:38 PM
  211. Alright, sounds good! One last question. Are you comfortable with your interview being posted to your application?
  212.
  213. Toska - Today at 4:39 PM
  214. Oh jeeze, sure that's fine with me I think
