Paralyses and teleports

Emma struggled, but static was starting to creep into the edges of her vision. This wasn't how this was supposed to go. She was supposed to lead this team of ruthless individuals, not be killed by them. Suddenly the pressure vanished, and she found herself standing in the corner where she had started. The other three also stood where they had started, and though they still moved to fight, they appeared to be immobilized by an unknown force. In the middle of the room stood a fifth figure, a human in an impeccably stylish suit.

"Now, now, I know getting along with others isn't your strong suit, but you're going to have to work something out. You all saw promises of power in the orb you crushed, but you also saw that you'd have to win a competition to achieve that power. Around you are your teammates that will be with you until you have won or been eliminated."

Suddenly they were all able to move freely again, though they remained ready in case one of the others tried something.
