  1. -Fusion is outside the gameplay even if it wasn't counterintuitive
  2. -Powers and mods are both more cost-effective at higher levels rather than less for discouraging tempo min-maxing
  3. -Low attack power is too easy to fix via things like Energy Charge
  4. -Zoning moves are overencouraged even more than in Smash 4, which is saying something
  5. -Anti-evasion tools are too easy to gimp
  6.
  7. It all boils down to completely uninteractive gameplay that ultimately leads to not treating human opponents as anything more than single player challenges. Grid Reading requires memorization too but at least allows for trying to determine power grid weaknesses based on intel about the opponent's actions.
  8.
  9. THAT should have been encouraged, not things like spamming what is supposed to be a siege power and getting rewarded for it because it fully charges too fast even by KIU's standards and doesn't provide some sufficient counterbalancing weakness. That doesn't reward things like risk assessment.
  10.
  11. Also, KIU's biggest in-game problem is needing active character customization for ANY depth. The power system only does so much before it dries up too fast. The move depth is just awful, which is the underlying problem. There's maybe 10 attacks per character choice, less than SSB64, with not even the smallest attempt at weakness coverage ability. There would have to be a lot done with that alone.
  12.
  13. And let me clarify this: no, I do NOT think Street Fighter is any better about balance or such. Easily done fireball attacks deal similar damage to powerful melee moves, something I have my ways for confirming that I'd mention if not for Miiverse's strictness.
  14.
  15. At least KIU TRIED to give slow melee ANY power, no matter how VERY half-efforted. Street Fighter simply has an overly strict physical entry barrier, too much of such to warrant being considered comparable to Chess.
  16.
  17. Oh wait, I'm oversimplifying things with Street Fighter. Uh, no. I have played Battalion Wars because THAT has a physical entry barrier by its design. Having one is simply not an excuse to invalidate strategy and tactics as an equalizer.
  18.
  19. Yet Street Fighter does that, and when "git gud" is treated as "valid" advice, it absolutely shows. Because apparently, I should note that projectiles have frame data problems that still clearly require excessive dexterity to work with at all.
  20.
  21. But hey, I'm an idiot who can't possibly understand that in Chess Knights are too slow to want to be passive or skewed toward a side, or that Bishops are color-locked providing not just Counter Play with Pawn zoning but Affinity Play that even leads to one of the insufficient material draw scenarios.
  22.
  23. Seriously, there's no way I could be helping to balance a strategy game that already takes active measures to encourage risk-reward precision gameplay off the bat. Never mind that I just found a nasty case of First Turn Advantage.
  24.
  25. I take issue with claims that I just want to win, which is a hypocritical accusation unto itself with the "playing to win" mentality. Thing is, I call out bad gameplay indiscriminately. I've proven it time and again with things like Giant Diddy Fake Difficulty. It has nothing to do with my skill, which is plentiful anyway.
  26.
  27. Players should prove they even want to grow to appreciate good gameplay, to let video games be less of a generally unstructured mess where brand names are simply more important than innovation can ever hope to be.
  28.
  29. 1HKs being the way of life in KIU stands out in proving that much. And what further proof there is of that than somebody recently mistaking that happening for using a CHEAT DEVICE. Baseline gameplay should never have to worry about that happening. EVER. Yet it happened.
  30.
  31. That proves that KIU simply punishes people for playing by heart, especially when ANYTHING without mods or powers is lucky to have 2HK ability. Things like that do not invite healthy gameplay, new players, or anything like that.
  32.
  33. Of course, no amount of balancing or good gameplay can change when the competitive fanbase just opts to run with aggression, and thereby walk without dignity as a result. That's what the Kid Icarus Uprising community did with things like the "cry moar" mentality they kept displaying. Naming a CLAN "Don't Cry Noob" or even not calling it out actively enough doesn't make a good impression.
  34.
  35. I even need to point out that the Advance Wars community killed itself by being overly abrasive. People like to blame me in both communities, but I have seen a topic that exploded into theorycrafting and nastiness w/o me even knowing about its existence before finding it trying to help balance Shattered Throne with better map design standards. I'd link to it if Miiverse's rules weren't a problem.
  36.
  37. The point is unchanged, however: AW's community had killed itself by praising players who would sing songs mocking dead people. KIU's community, for self-indulgence, didn't care to learn from history and had been doomed to repeat it from the start. And I get to vent when I have to worry about Shatted Throne or any other game I so much as help to balance or even make suffering the same fate.
  38.
  39. In a way, you people are right about one thing, because I seeked to let future players know that KIU has the sort of community that would have widespread usage of the term "salt" like there could be nothing wrong with that, even when it clearly says "cry moar" to people. Almost like they think they're immune to the rules. I wouldn't be surprised at all by them having ridiculous RL incomes.
  40.
  41. I'm providing this wall of text because a friend talked to me about feeling like a bully over a power fantasy because of his treatment of less than pleasant people HE has to deal with. I give him absolutely due credit because he actually does care to say he has a problem. Even when it's clear the other side won't do the same because of mob mentality.
  42.
  43. At the end of the day, I'm just better off leaving a calmer response. At least then it becomes clear I mean to call people out for behavior that clearly could be better. Granted, that they would bother to care can just as easily be a different story altogether.
  44.
  45. Naturally, I should just leave KIU's competitive community to its fate anyway. It blames me for everything wrong with it, but when it wanted to bathe in Unsportsmanlike Gloating, that couldn't be more wrong. Even so, however, I can make better use of my time doing things like helping to balance games like Shattered Throne, or simply getting to wrasslin' gators. Long story on that 2nd one.
  46.
  47. Either way, running with aggression and then thinking you walk with dignity isn't cool, folks. It doesn't work that way. Kid Icarus Uprising, much as I actually hoped it wouldn't, tries to convince players of otherwise, and when the fanbase has had me banned for daring to make suggestions on how the game can be fixed, that shows.
