  1. Hi there, I’m known in the community as Eons, and I’m a content creator in the jp community these days,
  2.
  3. As GL has just hit the Chaos era, I feel it’s one of the better times than ever to make a post discussing, how the way the game has changed since cosmos era, especially regarding teambuilding
  4.
  5. Early on my usual set up was the following:
  6. 1 Big Aura, 1 healer, 1 dps, at the minimum. If one character could fill multiple roles, great.
  7.
  8. When I went through Chaos early on, I really underestimated the power of auras, they tend to be applied to supports but not always.
  9.
  10. Auras are gonna be the biggest game changers and can be the difference from hitting 1s in Chaos to dealing thousands per hit.
  11.
  12. Now with that said, I should also stress, there is no carry unit in this game anymore, even with characters like Ultimecia, there is no one unit that can clear everything, if I were to summarize the biggest thing I learned being a jp player for over a year, it’s that team diversity is the biggest thing you need to be successful in this game.
  13.
  14. Now people can easily just pull for favorites and people can also just pull for meta, but so long as you have a diverse roster, that’s what really matters in the end. I’m that one locke fangirl still carrying Locke into every chaos I can after all.
  15.
  16. The reason I say this is chaoses will start to have immunities, absorbs, resistances and a bunch of other fun mechanics that a “carry” unit won’t always work with. With the huge influx of people using Ultimecia, and later Emperor, we had a long time of magic resist. This is what led to the imperil meta, because it was a way around it, but even things like Golbez chaos, where golbez himself used magic, had magic resist, you can’t just hope Ulti will carry you through it all.
  17.
  18. I should note this isn’t the belief of most, but it is the belief of some which is why I mention it.
  19.
  20. Now a lot of people I’ve been seeing both on the discord, and a bit here on the reddit, are having issues with Fang chaos. As it is now, You don’t have many choices to pick from but as chaos goes on, there’s gonna be plenty more choices, another way this game pushes diversity.
  21.
  22. Many characters later on share roles but specialize in different parts
  23.
  24. Garnet and Ysh are very similar, one is more offensive, one is more support, which means, if you need the heal + aura niche in the team , as it is now, you can pick between the two to whom will serve the chaos better.
  25.
  26.
  27. The famous Zack vs Snow argument goes the same way. Both are immensely similar but where Snow can’t shine, such as Ice absorb, Zack can take his place, having a diverse roster might seem redundant but it makes the chaos journey all that more easier.
  28.
  29. I’m not saying that you need 12 people who do the same thing, but rather, if you want to build two similar characters, that’s actually more beneficial than it would seem.
  30.
  31. Now, the other thing I wanted to discuss was team synergy.
  32.
  33. A lot of characters, synergize well with others, and it might just make a favorite who isn’t so stellar, finally become usable.
  34.
  35. There are a plethora of examples but I’ll name a few of my favorites who mostly go under the radar.
  36.
  37. Gau + Yshtola : Ysh Batteries Gau, gau will counterattack with the batteried brv, and on his end, he provides Earth imperil that makes both him and Ysh very strong, as they both use Earth, especially during imperil meta
  38.
  39. Kamlanaut + Tank/Locke + Tank: in the mid Chaos era , characters will start showing up who really don’t want to be broken or targeted. In the case of Kamlanaut he has a way to ensure 9 paralysis but because of a stacking mechanic, any break will ruin it for him as he will have to start over. Locke, does more damage when not targeted, and so a tank like zack would make both of them hit harder.
  40.
  41. Vaan/Alisae and shantotto: Totto after her ex+ imperils all elements, and characters such as alisaie and Vaan which have quite a plethora of them finally enables them.
  42.
  43. For more nearby strategies: Vincent(Deadly beast Flare) + Lotta (hurl staff) will set enemy int brv to 0 for as long as both debuffs last, this is a tactic used for consistent breaking and pseudo delay. Kinda like what vayne does.
  44.
  45. Serah + Faris/Lillisette: Poison spam that can be crucial in getting enemies below kill range. Faris sphere also adds an invisible poison that serah or anyone with an E slot can wear. In total you can have around 4 different poisons/sap/brv damage
  46.
  47. When talking with other fellow content creators, the idea came up to make this ramble a bit more GL focused, and while I don’t want to undermine things I said earlier, there are a few comps/strats more nearby, that I think would be beneficial to discuss
  48.
  49. The heavy emphasis on pulling Ultimecia shouldn’t be ignored, but what if circumstances come up in which you can’t pull her or can’t make pity. Many people have been worried that since they pitied Sherlotta, they won’t make it in time for Ulti.
  50.
  51. I personally didn’t pull for Ulti. At the time I was disconnected from all resources and only had one friend, who was also in the same situation, and all we had for basis of how good Ulti was was the showcase which did quite a terrible job if you had no idea what was going on with her. So long story short, I skipped her, I also didn’t have lotta, how did I survive?
  52.
  53. This goes back to the point I was saying earlier about how multiple characters can do the same job but in different ways.
  54.
  55. To replace my lack of a magic dps, I used my Ace, something I picked up on the 2-5 Blackened Will raid.
  56.
  57. He’s by no means an equal replacement but he kept me surviving through the magic only Chaoses such as FEoD 2 because he filled a similar role to what I needed from Ulti, Big DPS for the magic side. Do not skip Ulti for the sole reason of “I have ace” Diverse rosters are the biggest point of this teambuilding ramble thread, and that’s exactly how I survived.
  58.
  59. So to put it simply, don’t rely on a carry unit, build your roster, large and how you like it. In my opinion, focus on what you need now rather than 5 months down the line.
