Gylas Snow (Windrivver)


1 Gylas' family has been sworn to the Steele household for generations now. Coming originally from a wildling hunting party who allied with the Steeles rather than fight them. They swore their blades and bows to fight alongside, to live with and to hunt alongside the citizens of Iceguard.

2 Gylas is the bastard son of Banneth Windrivver and a wildling woman, although Banneth has never spoken about Gylas' mother or who she is. His father has traveled north of the wall a handful of times in his life for the purpose of having a 'good hunt'. After one hunt he returned with a two year old child, Gylas.
Gylas cannot remember the face of his mother nor the time he spent with her.

3 Gylas lives with his father's family, the Windrivvers, but in castle Iceguard, owned by House Steele.
The Windrivver family consists of Banneth(father), Lehna (Step mother), Aianna (Half-sister, 6 years older) and Kaithlyn (Half-sister, 2 years older).

4 Growing up Gylas always searched for something more, something beyond the oaths, laws and walls of men. Although Iceguard was his home he always wished for adventure, freedom.
Gylas was known for his small tricks and pranks growing up, as well as sneaking along the castle in the dead of night. This did not help advance his reputation with the other nobles of house Steele. As he grew he wished to challenge himself more, he would begin by taking small things such as apples and onions from market stalls, but slowly this developed into taking coins and purses.

5 In order to try and keep Gylas out of trouble his father Banneth, would lock the doors past 8PM, creating a curfew to guide Gylas. This did the exact opposite, after many nights sleeping outside the walls Gylas slowly picked up the trick of picking locks, easily being able to get back into his room after he learnt how.

6 Four years ago, while his father was on a hunting trip, Gylas had a dream in which he prowled under the midnight sky hunting in the snow and spying in the trees. While in this dream he came across his father and attempted to talk to him, alas he could not.

7 A few days later Banneth returned and over breakfast he spoke of a strange encounter he had with a beast. He claims that a shadow cat approached him in the night, he was hesitant not to kill it as it is the Steele households mascot (Need a better word), the cat proceeded to inspect Banneth and approached him with almost human intrigue.

8 A few nights later Gylas was lead on the roof of the castle, looking up at the stars when he fell asleep. He panicked in his dream knowing full well he could slip down from the roof while unconscious. He began running south, somehow knowing his location, and eventually reached the city walls. Surprisingly he was able to scale the walls fairly easily. Once upon the roof he could see where he was sleeping and his body. He approached it and began to gently touch his face in an attempt to wake. Moments later Gylas regained consciousness.Stood infront of him, moonlight shining down upon him was a shadowcat, eyes glowing in the darkness. The creature did not attack, but sat.
The next few months would pass with Gylas heading onto the castle roof and the beast would approach him.

9 One morning Gylas built up his courage and spoke with his father, claiming he had tamed a beast of the night, a shadow cat.
After frightfully long conversation about beasts and responsibility Banneth decided to allow Gylas to keep the creature, Coming to the conclusion that if the Windrivver family could tame the Steele family's emblem then surely they would be fully accepted.
