The beings humans have believed to be mythical - from tea-sipping demons to angels with a penchant for poker - are all 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭. Though they may walk among mankind freely, reveling in their secretive immortality, they have fought for eons to secure a nearly impregnable defense of mystics and stigma that have kept them from being outed. Those sentient creatures that are not human shall be united in one stratum, coexisting with, yet secret from, man’s.

And yet, there are some among the supernatural who yearn to assert their dominance, relegating humans to the periphery as not but playthings, their bodies to use as they please: as tools, as acolytes, as food, as sexual objects... And while the voices of those thirsting for control have always been loud, their throaty cries had been drowned out- until now. With the changing of the universal tide by the hands of heaven itself in favor of the Angelic Dominion, their words have started to rise above the din of cacophonous clamoring, those entities that seek only their power initiating an open season upon the mortal plane.

Some fear the influx of chaos upon the Earth has left scars too ugly for the Creator to ignore. That if evil continues to flex its might upon unsuspecting souls, sowing corruption into the hearts of man unbeknownst to them, the end will result in a culling. Not by the legions of the Hell Plane, but by the Divine One themselves. In the Bible, this is referred to as the 𝑅𝑎𝑝𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒. Of course, it won't pan out quite how the Christians have predicted, but the event is similar.

In order to ensure this doesn't happen, the balance between chaos and order must be restored. New alliances must be forged between old enemies, blood must be shed, and everyone has to recognize they have a part to play in the upcoming (un)holy wars. Yes, even mankind in all of its ignorance will become crucial pieces of the puzzle. Perhaps some secrets were worthless keeping, in the end... If every last soul gets culled, what has it meant up until now?

𝑀𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑐 always has and always will be infused into every living, and non-living thing that calls Earth their home. Its forms are as many as the extant species currently present on Earth, and no two gifts will look identical. However, most of mankind is oblivious to its presence and cannot hear its beckoning without first being awakened to it. Not many are given the opportunity without some kind of intervention...

𝑀𝑎𝑛𝑎 is what we will be calling the magical energy that is imbued in all things.

𝖶𝗂𝗍𝖼𝗁𝖾𝗌: The origin of the witch, at its core, is about devotion. Long ago, the first witches of white and black were born when two women, devoted in placing their faith in opposing deities, were gifted extraordinary abilities... On the condition that they share their newfound glory with others and spread the word as good missionaries do. Soon, cults began forming around not just these entities, but others of similar ilk, until one by one the Seven Demon Lords of Hell and their counterparts, the Virtuous Septa of Heaven, had amassed sizeable followings around the globe, spreading alongside the mothering religion, Christianity.
Of course, magical people hailing from every religion have their own unique beginnings to tell tales of, but it must be understood that (for this RP) ALL witches, regardless of their faith, came into being the same way: through a blessing of a deified entity. It should also be of note that all magical humans have the ability to see and communicate with the dead and can peer beyond the glamor of certain races to gaze upon their truth. They also have enhanced speed, strength, agility, and senses, although they are by no means on par with wolfkin or vampires. Witches can further be categorized into two types: SLAYERS and EXORCISTS.

𝖲𝗅𝖺𝗒𝖾𝗋𝗌' magical prowess manifests in the shape of a weapon that appears to them when their gifts are truly awakened. Once it has become a physical item, it will always have to be carried on their person. Through this weapon, and it can be anything, their gifts are channeled. They are unable to perform hands-free magic like their counterparts but are natural warriors; as such, combat comes to them as easily as breathing. If their weapon gets destroyed, they are rendered temporarily "mundane." While other physiological advantages remain, it takes time for their mana to replenish to the degree that their weapon can be reforged. Slayers of species outside humans are rare but can be identified through their awakening and will have both their species' innate abilities and magic to wield.
