  1. Q - What is the goal of this run?
  2. A - This is just a normal Any% speedrun of Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories where the goal is to beat the game as quickly as possible. However I am allowed to open the disc tray and swap to any unmodified disc of my choice at any point in the run. Thus I call this category Any% (Disc Swaps).
  3.
  4. Q - What is your goal time?
  5. A - I would like to finish a run faster than 55:40, as that is the current fastest completion of the game from a new file. That run is Any% (Trading) by Mergy, which allows card duplication and use of the Pocketstation to obtain a crazy deck before progressing through the campaign. This run has potential to beat that time by a wide margin but has a lot of RNG elements that make it rather inconsistent.
  6.
  7. Q - What are all of these glitched cards in your deck?
  8. A - These cards have a card ID above 722, which means the game is pulling random data for their stats and other attributes since the card data table only is supposed to go up to 722. As such, some of these cards have very low stats and others have very high stats. I choose to run starter decks that can obtain several very strong monsters early on and buy some others with starchips later on to make the deck as strong and consistent as possible.
  9.
  10. Q - Okay but how do you get the strong glitch monsters?
  11. A - By swapping the game disc at the end of the duel, you can confuse the game while it searches through the game's code to find the end of duel routines, causing it to find nothing when searching for card drop data. This tricks the game into giving us the card #000, which modifies the wrong data in memory when adding it to our card collection. Instead of giving us a copy of #000 in our chest, it instead adds 256 to the card ID of the bottom card in our deck, which can result in a card ID above 722 if we sort our deck properly. From there, it's just a matter of knowing which cards in our deck can convert into something useful if we use the #000 trick.
  12.
  13. Q - Is there a leaderboard for this run?
  14. A - Not officially, as so far only two people have completed runs of this category. Swapping discs is also banned for all leaderboard categories, so this is just a fun run for now. There is a possibility this run could be on the category extensions leaderboard in the future if there is enough interest and enough submitted runs though. :)
  15.
  16. Q - I'm still confused and have another question that isn't listed here.
  17. A - I have a detailed guide for the category, you can read it here: http://rebrand.ly/discswap Or you can ask me any questions in chat during the run as well and I will try my best to answer them!
