- As this elk came walking, smoke issued from his nostrils and flint arrow teeth were hurled from his mouth. These flint stones flew like real arrows, cutting bushes and tree branches and making a rattling noise like the pelting of hail upon dry leaves. The Stone Boy's brothers were wounded by these arrows, and each man fell to the earth.
- When the elk saw these men fall he stopped and rolled his eyes about wickedly. "I thought my mother said there were five of these simpletons," he said. This elk was the witch woman's powerful son.
- The Stone Boy now stepped from behind his tree and launched an arrow into the wicked one. The elk fell with a bellow of pain, shooting his flint stones, and the Stone Boy escaped as before.
